Dynamaxing forces Gamefreak to produce extra models for each and every Pokemon, because you can't just take the same model and increase it's size by 10 and expect it to look even half decent
I fucking called it:
So I figured out why Game Freak is doing this. Masuda, in interviews, is talking about "animation quality", and "balance", but that's all excuses to mask the real issues. I mean, really, THIS is what you'd call "quality animations"?

But no, the real issue isn't this. The real issue is the thing that's made very clear in this video right here:
You see that Steelix popping in? Notice how the smoke and black hole effects above appear WITH IT. That's not its own thing, that's a part of the model. Every single Dynamax'd Pokémon has its own, oversized model, and I think THAT is why Game Freak is cutting on Pokémon, because otherwise they have to make a model for EVERY Dynamax'd Pokémon, resulting in a ton of bloat and not fitting in any Switch cartridge or the console itself.

Dude I have a Mew from GBA Ruby that I got from a Toyrus event that I've brought over to the 3DS games. The Owner even says TOYSRUS.

ToysRus isn't even around anymore.
Just down the street from where I'm currently parked is the remnants of the ToysRUs that had been in my hometown since 1996 and was open right up to the very end...there's nothing there now but a half torn-down building. The other day I had to buy a present for my cousins baby's first birthday and it would have been alot easier if they were still open...the selection of toys they had at Walmart was rather limited.

I still remember sitting in the parking lot of that ToysRUs waiting for them to open on the morning that X and Y out...

In this article they reveal that when they went to transfer models and move animations into SS they didn't transfer over right forcing them to rebuild them by scratch.
I can believe they ran into issues when porting the models from the 3DS to the Switch but bull-fucking-shit they had to redo everything from scratch. All pre-existing models and their animations are the same and they’re reusing old animations on new characters.

So interesting that people are so torn up about this and the game hasn't even been out yet

I still don't think Matsuda was trying to cut corners or be lazy. Like tbh I believe he feared there wouldn't be enough memory to put all those pokemon on a single cartridge.

No matter how you look at it this was fucked from the very beginning.

>They're clearly sick of making Pokemon but instead of giving it to a team who'd both be big enough to handle production properly and actually care enough to give it their all they're just slapping cardboard together with scotch tape at this rate

>As such the already tiny dev team is split in half with the non-Pokemon division gaining priority for a game nobody will remember in 2 years or less while letting their biggest cash cow suffer in quality for no reason

>The games have to come out at a yearly rate now, leaving next to no time for quality assurance and polish, which is why we have N64 trees and T-posing Wingulls among a host of other issues that nobody in their wildest dreams expected a mainline home console Pokemon game to be plagued with

>They included a gimmick that adds even more developmental stress while also playing a hand in killing the national dex and pissing off countless fans

>In traditional GF fashion they axed megas and Z-moves for this new gimmick which feels like a half-assed cobbling of both which will itself will be replaced by the next gen especially with how labor intensive the gimmick is to make with every mon needing even more extra models

Man, get Distant Kingdom outta here. He's a piece of crap.
Trust me, if I could have found a better example of that I'd have used it.

SuMo, with 802 Pokemon, took up less than half of the 3DS cartridge's 8 GB. Switch cartridges can handle 32 GB.

Is GameFreak just Japanese Bethesda Softworks?

Way ahead of you, buddy.
This is the kind of thing that Iwata fixed when he helped Game Freak compress Johto during the development of Gold and Silver, allowing them to include all of Kanto properly. This was in 1999. Game Freak hasn't learned how to compress in over 20 years now. Game Freak is Japan's Bethesda. Junichi Masuda is Japan's Todd Howard.

This is a Chinese bootleg game. Battle animations just blow Game Freak's schlock straight out of the water, and it even has a good mix of mons from all gens. No excuse people, no excuse.

I know a guy who’s sperging about this whole Pokédex thing and this guy wants to form a new game studio from the ground up because game studios like Bethesda and Game Freak are shit. He thinks he can do better by not doing the things Game Freak is doing. Basically he himself wants to do a repeat of Game Freak’s History. Created from people saying “I can do better than those guys”.

Edit: Also, as a side note, I expect a ton of National Dexits exploit the hell out of this:

What?

Dood, we've seen from the demo that the water Gym itself has it's own puzzles - The Water Gym is a maze, but it's from the demo.
I was mainly going by the trailers that were on my Switch's newsfeed. But then again, it wasn't that informative to begin with.

So what's his plan exactly? Is he going to make a franchise that's just like pokemon but it goes under a different name or what?

Yep, but more or less taking “suggestions from the fans!” As he says it.

I mean, hey, I wouldn't be opposed to their being a Pokemon Alternative.

Of course, he'd need plenty of monsters, as well as a means of catching them that's a bit different from Pokemon, and other monster collectors.

I mean with Digimon, you've got monsters who are data that can be compressed.

Shin Megami Tensei, you've got the demons becoming a part of your soul.

Hell, I remember Monster Rancher being something where you had a farm.

Again though, without any other details other than that, can't really give any ideas.

Although, I should point out that if he does go through with this, while taking suggestions from fans, it's gonna be an uphill battle since not every suggestion will be doable. At least not in the same vein as being something that can be done.

Continuing this here
Funny that you should mention that; Game Freak “can do better” for decades at this point. As some people pointed out, even as far back as the GBA era, other games were kicking Pokémon’s ass in terms of graphics and technical limitations. I remember Diamond and Pearl being absolutely fucked in terms of frame rate and speed, among other things.
Hearing them say things like how Sun and Moon were pushing them as it is, I can legitimately believe that rather than see that as aversion to improvement, which is why I really can’t muster up any anger or disappointment. Or maybe I’m just seeing things half full; being on this thread really brings out the best in you.
Well of course, but Gen 4 and 5 are still revered as Pokemon in their prime, downsides be damned. Look at how content-packed they were.

Now compare that to XY, which had a short postgame story and two legendaries to fight. That's all. And this is consistent with the games since XY. Sun and Moon had the same problem.

This is Pokemon on a console, not a short 2-3gb DS flashcart. They've had more than long enough to make SwSh as good as they can. But evidently they aren't.
