-For the anime, it is because for Ash's team they wanted to Advertise Gen VI Pokemon, and thus his whole team minus Pikachu was Gen VI, and the only Pokemon from that gen that can Mega evolve is the mythical Pokemon Diancie. Instead his Greninja got a fancy new form that was supposed to be on par with Mega Evolution so he could be a special snowflake(It wasn't originally supposed to be obtainable in the games, GF in an interview said they decided that kids that watched the show would want it so they added it to Gen VII via the special demo). Apparently a few episodes ago in Japan Misty and Brock came back for a 2-part special and they both had Megas(Gyarados and Steelix, respectively).
Not only that, i'm willing to bet they killed whatever push they had for Ash Greninja (the name of Greninja's new form) with that extremely bullshit forced loss against that Charizard, simply because "Lol if Ash ever wins, the show will end." logic.

Never mind the Ash Greninja (if you gave me a pic of that, and a regular Greninja, I wouldn't be able to tell the difference anyway, it was just another one of the series dumbass gimmicks), Ash shouldn't have lost that League because he actually had the sense to EVOLVE all his Pokemon that could do so in that Anime Generation. Why in the Hell he got rid of the Goodra so quickly though, is beyond me. (and yes, I also know it came back)

By the way, if you think I use the word "Gimmick" a lot when discussing Pokemon, you wouldn't want to chat with me about Wheel of Fortune.

i’m hoping the legendaries you can find through ultra wormholes won’t be shiny locked and that you can save right before encounters, because i’m going to spend insane amounts of time SRing for shiny Virizion. please, i don’t want to go through ORAS all over again because i’m an idiot who already caught Virizion.

That wasn't the case in S&M so I doubt it will change for Ultra.

Just five 'mons away from completing my Pokedex. That Shiny Charm had better be worth it, especially since my Shiny Salandit still isn't here. I want to Masuda some other more Shinies damn it!

you mean that they’ll probably be shiny locked? i don’t know, it’d be kinda weird to shiny lock all those legends when most of them have never been shiny locked or haven’t been for awhile. i can see the box legend/tapus/UBs/event legends being locked obviously, but otherwise why wouldn’t wormholes function like the ORAS mirage islands? i guess we’ll find out in two weeks though

it took me 3-4 shiny salandit to get a female with my cute charm sylveon, i was so pissed

No I said that they weren't shiny locked so they won't be shiny locked in the next game.

I don't wanna wait for Mega Stones to be distributed again. I only say this because I alternate between Gengar and Gardevoir.
It's pretty bullshit that they had to distribute them over events instead of offering (all of) them in various parts of the game

Pokemon has had a pretty consistent track record of disappointing me, so I hope USUM breaks the record

Considering that they're offering more Mega Capable mons, and if they go with the ORAS approach of having access to all the mons that the previous games didn't have, all of the Mega Stones should be available in USUM. If anything, I'm hoping that Mega Evolution isn't just tacked on post-game again, like it was in SM.

They clearly shelved Mega's for the time being because of how awesome and cinematic they tried to make the Z-Moves look.

When they make a proper return, they will probably have a lot of new forms.

They really got to come up with new names for it though. Its really childish and uncreative to call things that are supposed to bring such great power "Pokemon name"-Ite

The games were leaked, non-story related(for the most part) info inside spoilers:

-There are no new Alola forms
-Own Tempo Rockruff/Dusk Lycanroc is breedable, so you can get as many as you want with whatever Egg Moves that you want. Own Tempo Rockruff is incapable of evolving into Midday or Midnight Lycanrock.
-Necrozma gets a 3rd new form called Ultra Necozma that is Psychic/Dragon with stats higher than Arceus. It basicially a fusion of Z-moves and Mega Evolution, in that it's usable via making Dusk Mane or Dawn Wing Necrozma use an exclusive Z-crystal that lets you transform similar to a Mega and THEN the next turn can be used to change Photon Geyser into the Z-Move "Light that Burns the Sky". It has the exclusive Ability Neuroforce, which increases the power of Super-Effective moves
-There are 4 new Ultra Beasts total, on top of the 3 revealed there is one that evolves from UB Adhesive that is Poison/Dragon when it learns Dragon Pulse(only obtainable on it via move relearner or move tutor). UB Adhesive is also obtainable before the post game, but barely.
-There is a new Mythical, a pure electric that looks like it was ripped straight from someone's fur affinity. It's ability is Volt Absorb and it has the exclusive new move Plasma Fists, which after hitting the target turns all of their normal type moves into electric type ones for the next turn.
-All ORAS tutors are back, and on top of that there are 5 new ones: Defog, Liquidation, Stomping Tantrum, Throat Chop, and Laser Focus
-You can win a Surf Pikachu via getting a high score in the Mantine Surf minigame. This Surf Pikachu is not shiny locked.
-There is a method to get Pikachu, Exeggcute, and Cubone to evolve into their original kanto evolutions in this game(Most likely so they can be VGC legal). You use their normal Evolution triggers(Thunder Stone, Leaf Stone, and level 28 respectively) while in a Ultra Wormhole location)
-The Ultra Beasts and Ultra Wormole Legendaries from past gens are not Shiny locked, but the Tapus, Cosmog Line, Necrozma, and Zygarde still are.
-Speaking of Zygarde, rather than having to collect all 100 Cells, there is instead a 50% Zygarde is Resolution Cave(On Poni Island), and a 10% Zygarde as a gift. When you get the Zygarde Cube, it has the remaining 40 cells in it already.
-Outside of previously mentioned Z-Crystal that creates Ultra Necrozma, the only new Z-move that hasn't already been fully revealed is the one for Mimikyu that was only partially seen, which transforms Play Rough into "Let's Snuggle Forever!"
-Outside of Photon Geyser for Necrozma, Mind Blown for UB Burst, and the previously mentioned Plasma Fists, there are no other new attacks
-Ultra Necrozma's Neuroforce is the only new Ability.

The script has been extracted too.

Anyone expecting it to not be Emerald or Platinum will be disappointed.

So are all the regular pokemon catchable in this game, since all the legendaries are catchable?

Holy fuck I've loved Pokemon since I was a kid but I just can't keep up with all this, especially when I don't have a 3DS to play the newer games (okay, well I got myself a 2DS just to get Sun and Moon but my SD card corrupted and ever since I've not touched the console).
I barely know shit about fuck to do with Z-moves, the concept of the Ultra Beasts blew my mind, Alola shaking up the whole gym thing got me really excited. But I just can't keep up. And I'm starting to feel like a salty genwunner. I think I'm growing out of Pokemon.

Nothing on the Mega stones?

All adults should out grow Pokemon. Some of us just take longer than others. :/

Fun little facts that aren't really spoilers:

-Beast Balls are now Purchasable
-Extremespeed is now an Egg Move for Zigzagoon/Linoone(It was previously only obtainable on it via a special Zigzagoon Egg obtainable in Pokemon Box: Ruby and Sapphire in Gen III and a Japan-only event Linoone in Gen VI. Competitively it is the only move, used in conjuction with Belly Drum and the Abiltiy Gluttony, that makes the line even usable over other early game rodents)
-The Flabebe line is in the Alola Dex. Addtionally the currently unreleased Eternal Flower Floette* has a unique dex entry from the 5 normal versions of it, meaning that it being released is still on the table.

*
An unbreedable version of Floette with a unique flower that can't evolve, has almost as high of a stat total as normal Floette's evolution Florges but with better special attack and speed, and a unique signature move called Light of Ruin(140 power, 90 Accuracy special fairy move that deals 1/2 damage in recoil) that has been in the coding of the Pokemon games since X and Y, and despite never being released is able to be put into Pokemon bank for transfer to later gens. It is seen at the end of X and Y's story during a cutscene, belonging the the NPC known as AZ.

No new Alolan forms? GAAAAH! To think the whole idea, and especially seeing the existence of White Vulpix, was what hooked me back into getting Pokemon games in the first place. Now, is there really any incentive for me to by this? I may as well get an XY or an ORAS now. Or hell, just continue trying to breed out Shinies in my Moon, and just keep on doing the battle tree until I have all available Mega Stones or something....

Jeez, This really is a HUGE letdown for me. The Alolan Oddish sounded so interesting.
