Ha, like I even care much if its hacked. Here in the islands, Event Pokemon don't exist and I knew people from the smaller ones who had all sorts of Shinies (and a few bad eggs, lol) because they all used a Game Shark.

The Darkrai is in a Cherish Ball, however. But its holding a Golden Bottle Cap, something I always see GTS Shiny Legendaries holding.

I don't even know what the fuck these Bottle Caps are supposed to be. Probably another of the games lesser gimmicks.

@TrippinKahlua The caps are actually for a thing called Hyper Training, which allows you to max out the IV's of a level 100 Pokemon without altering their Hidden Power type. It is considered incredibly useful for Older gen Pokemon, Event Pokemon, and Legendary Pokemon, which are normally hard to get perfect stats for. Bottlecap maxes 1 stat and Gold Bottlecap maxes all six stats. It's not a minigame or anything, you just hand the caps to an NPC in the mall on Melemele Island and the stats get boosted.

Like I said, gimmicky.

Like I told my coworker yesterday when I bragged to him about my Shiny Darkrai (lol, what a bunch of man-children we are) those advanced game mechanics have always gone way over my head, and like all other gimmicks in the franchise, learning about how they operate has zero impact on the main story so why bother?

(And I do know what Individual Values actually are and how helpful they are, but my point stands)

IV's have been a thing since gen 1, so it's not like it's a new thing that you need to hate.

If anything the equivalents of IVs and EVs in Gen I and II(DVs and Stat Experience) are even more convoluted. DVs also effected Gender, Shininess and Unown form, while Stat experience is extremely tedious to max out, it usually involves making the same Pokemon fight all of the Pokemon in the elite 4 single-handedly hundreds of times(not an exaggeration) to get the stats maxed out.

Hey, I wasn't arguing at all about how absurd Gen I (and II to a slightly lesser extent) are, because I figure until gen IV they were basically ironing things out.

I was mostly saying that decrying it as a gimmick doesn't exactly make sense if IV's have been a thing since day 1.

I mean, you could probably say the bottle caps are (but in that case you might as well call vitamins a gimmick too), but they're streamlining things for people who play competetively, (and competition has been a thing since day 1 too).

If nothing else, even if you hate the bottle caps, you might as well use them 'cause they'll improve your stats for your single player play.

edit: For some reason I thought I was responding to TK. Dunno why.

Bottom line for this debate is IV's, EV's, DV's et all is just another variable alphabet soup talked about so the "hardcore" Pokemon nerds can have something to prove about.

I've seen people say things like "Even just one Speed point score can make a difference" and I'm here crying my eyes out on how beautiful Pokemon Moon's Credit roll goes to even care what the fuck he's talking about.

To be fair, I know that Shiny hunting is pretty linked to this game mechanic, and maybe if I'd understand it more it would help me with the hobby but whatever.

I've always been a fan of Team Rocket (the actual Team Rocket, not Jessie, James and Meowth) and Giovanni, so its good to see him. Its surprising the other villain leaders are here though. Its obviously meant to be a parralel to how Red and Blue got their cameos.

But of course, the 80% of that trailer that isn't meat is just rehashed info about the Legendaries, but "hey guys!!!" said Nintendo "Lets remind you of the gimmicky Mega Evolution! Look! Look! Look!"

This sounds pretty interesting now, fighting every current evil team leader at the moment (kinda surprised me that they used the original designs of Archie and Maxie). Wonder if they'll throw in a teaser for a future upcoming team leader.

They were merely going through all of the alternate forms of the various legendary Pokemon, which included some megas or primals. About half of those alt forms shown weren't either of those things.

Whether you like it or not both Megas and Z-moves are here to stay. You don't have to use them yourself but you seem to hate the idea of anyone actually liking them and thus go out of your way to insult the two mechanics whenever they are mentioned in official media. Both were positively received by the fanbase overall, you're in the minority.

(Also the Japanese version of the trailer showed that at least two of the evil team leaders, Giovanni and Lysandre, use Mega Pokemon)

At this point, however, I think they realize there isn't much more to do with Mega Evolutions. One of the dumber things about it to me is how in the anime, Mr. "I wanna be a Pokemon Master" Ash Ketchum STILL has yet to utilize it despite tons of Pokemon he has that can do so, and that DESERVE to do so. For something that's well recieved, they sure don't know what to do with it outside of the main games.

Do Mega Evolutions have a presence in the TCG? Is it some sort of temporary boost like it is in the games?

Oh yeah, and the whole thing being a temporary thing in the first place REALLY ruins it for me.

-For the anime, it is because for Ash's team they wanted to Advertise Gen VI Pokemon, and thus his whole team minus Pikachu was Gen VI, and the only Pokemon from that gen that can Mega evolve is the mythical Pokemon Diancie. Instead his Greninja got a fancy new form that was supposed to be on par with Mega Evolution so he could be a special snowflake(It wasn't originally supposed to be obtainable in the games, GF in an interview said they decided that kids that watched the show would want it so they added it to Gen VII via the special demo). Apparently a few episodes ago in Japan Misty and Brock came back for a 2-part special and they both had Megas(Gyarados and Steelix, respectively).

-From what I understand, they are indeed in the TCG, and are basically like EX Pokemon on steroids.

-There is a reason they are temporary. In Gen IV many older Pokemon got new evolutions, however most of them were poorly received and/or seen as "ruining" the Pokemon they evolved from. If megas had been poorly received, they could easily just have retconned the mega stones from existence since megas are temporary super-forms instead of entirely new Pokemon. Also by being temporary, using the Pokemon's item slot, and allowing only one per team also allowed them to be significantly more powerful than normal evolutions, which greatly helped out some of the crappier Pokemon that got them, like Mawile and Beedrill.

The Cosmog I acquired to get the Pokedex page had three significant things about it.

- It was Level 100, which means I'm gonna have to do another trade to get Cosmoem.
- It was holding what is now my second Gold Bottle Cap
- The thing had Pokerus. This is the first time in my life I've ever had it. My Crabominable is infected, which is awesome.

Pokerus is one of those older gimmicks I only really have a cursory knowledge of, but I really love JWittz's video on it.
