When I played Platinum and chose Piplup or Turtwig I didn't pick up a Rapidash, because there are other ways to fill in the niche that a Fire Type can fill without needing to have a Fire Type. Same with Garchomp; of the dozen or so times I played Platinum, I think I only fought Cynthia once or twice with one.

I get why people pick some Pokemon over others - hell, Staraptor and Luxray were on my teams more often than not - but trying out different mons and teams and having shortfalls in a roster is part of the fun of playing a Pokemon game, imo.

One week to go until the next generation is officially revealed.

It supposedly is using a new engine, but between Game Freak's "talent" and The Pokemon Company's impatience it could very well implode upon itself.
Game Freak's other new game actually looks pretty, so maybe that experience will get folded back into Pokemon and we'll get something competent for once.

IIRC that one was outsourced to fuck and back. Who knows? Maybe we'll actually get a decently running game for once. I'd sooner bet on getting a shiny starter without any resets.

English only

there are 3 languages
IMAGINE not just including every language in one download and letting the player pick which language to use like a setting that exists in every other single fucking game from the last 25 years.
IMAGINE being so fucking cheap that you have to offer them all separately so that you can still milk some extra sheckles out of your incredibly-small multilingual audience.
"B-but we can't add it into the game's old code as a new in-game setting, it would be too hard—"
SO THEN JUST INCLUDE ALL OF THE VERSIONS TOGETHER AND LET THE PLAYER PICK THEIR LANGUAGE AT A BUNDLE LAUNCHER SCREEN. THEY'RE LIKE 5 MBS EACH.

Offering something (literally anything) new to get people to re-buy this ancient product? Showing even the tiniest bit of respect your fans? Nah, fuck that.
Jesus christ what a fucking shit company.

My leaf-cloak Wormadam in Shining Pearl right now agrees.

Imagine if the FRLG remakes are their only new big game announcement.
Imagine if Gen 10 isn't ready yet.
Imagine if, after all of this multi-tens-of-millions-of-dollars ad campaign, this is all that they were trying to get us excited for.

I mean, it would make some sense, right? Their ads have been all about older players and nostalgia.

Get those rainbows ready, because I have a better idea:
>a collection of all mainline GB, GBC, and GBA games
>colorization and Super Game Boy options for GB
>online battling and trading
>Home compatibility
>compatibility with the N64 and upcoming GameCube games on NSO
>ability to trade between all included games without a paid subscription service
>basic emulator functions like shaders and multi-speed fast forward (I’ll forgive not having save states or rewind since they’re especially sensitive about trade-related abuse)
>all events included

I could add more, but just that would easily be worth $40.

Saw a /vp/ anon earlier speculate that Pokémon will never do a compilation release simply because it has the drone fanbase to get away with selling $20 ancient ROMs unlike Mega Man etc. And if we ever did get such a collection, it'll be some limited release bullshit that'll get snapped up by scalpers immediately. Unfortunately I think that's the correct idea.

The game is doomed from the start, then.

As for the ad, come on, Nintendo, level the fuck up. That was a lame ad designed by either an autist or a boomer. Member Gary, Member choosing Charmander. Member fainting. It's almost like a really shit Jedi mind trick at this point.

Willing to bet real money that data miners discover that the Fire Red and Leaf Green ports are just being run on RetroArch or some shit lmfao
