Good to know I can go back to replaying the old games and not miss anything this time around.

I had high hopes that they would improve upon Arceus and give us that "playing a Pokemon for the first time"-vibe that Arceus kinda managed to have, despite being a total throwback. :sigh:

-I'm taking my time on Ultra Moon rn and appreciate seeing Team Rocket again.

I’m reminded of occasions where people played devil’s advocate for Yandev or Maldy by thinking up some edge-case example
We have gotten to the point where you can argue Yandere Simulator unironically looks and runs just as good or better than a recent release from the largest multimedia franchise in the world.

Say what you want about yanderedev, but his motivation to make his game as good as he can make it and pour his heart and soul into it is leagues above what Game Freak are doing

Thoughts after playing it for a day
  • new battle system is alright. I wouldn't mind if it became the standard one. It needs some refining and can be frustrating at times, but it goes much faster and that's greatly appreciated to me.
  • The story sucks. Probably the worst story in a Pokemon game period
  • The city gets boring FAST. On paper it's a cool idea but they really did it in the most lazy way possible. It's nothing but one big maze where everything looks exactly the same.
  • They missed an easy opportunity for zygarde cell and mega stone hunting. Instead all of the items you find is useless shit
  • Them going back on the Legends series being a completely single player experience is fucking gay
  • You're pretty much forced to use mega evolutions. If you don't its going to take forever to chip down the wild boss pokemon and that means you're going to have to grind to level a pokemon that has type advantage + grind to obtain that stone. The game is not fun enough for that to be enticing.

overall I think its like 5/10. I'm sure if I was a kid I'd find joy in it but its really not doing much for me. It doesn't deserve to hold the Legends title because its really nothing like PLA.

It's telling that Game Freak even can't even design WATER TEXTURES CORRECTLY, and stop motion FPS is still a thing on objects from farther distances:

If you fags haven't already, just play Cobblemon instead (or if you're a coder/animator you can even help out with development if you're bored enough to). They're doing for free what Game Freak can't even do that requires $70 for the base game, $30 for the DLC, and a paid Nintendo Online subscription if you want to get all of the mega stones.
Honestly, with Nintendo's "no sales" policies, a game like this really should make them rethink that. It should be priced at $40 at max and that's just being generous.

Don't know where you stopped but X and Y was where Pokémon died and became pure slop imo.
And yet XY is like a masterpiece compared to SV and later. One can actually go into buildings in XY!

(If it weren't for ORAS, Gen 6 would be kind of lame and not that great as Gen 5 with BW2 is to me.)

I can't wait for Centro to get sued into the dirt lol

When I saw they scraped the battle tower I lost interest. They went above and beyond with FR LF and HG SS. ORAS for me was a clear indication they were not gonna put as much effort anymore.

Now instead of scraping the battle tower from gen 3, they are reselling you the hoopa rings of gen 6. It's cyclical.

Just a small reminder, they're also making another game due in 2026, one that actually looks like they're giving a shit about (probably in part that the publisher they're working with actually gave them a proper budget)
https://youtube.com/watch?v=m8wzS9Pfa_0Also, Furushima's working on it and there's no Nintendo console release to be found.
It will be garbage too. Check out non-Pokemon Gamefreak games(yes, they exist). There is maybe two-three good ones, everything else is cringy garbage. Little Town Hero is the worst, the most generic JRPG known to man AND that took away time and money from the already shoestring budget of the Switch titles. Same as them focusing on making other games for the 3DS during Gen 6 because they got "tired of Pokemon" and that's why we never got Z edition. Had to settle for ORAS instead with a few bits of content shoehorned into Sun and Moon with zero explanation, and no nobody even remembers the games they focused on instead.

Battle Tower was still a feature up to Gen 8, Scarlet Violet onwards doesn't even have that. What the fuck do you even do in the post game, just grind Raids endlessly? Absolute fucking state, might as well play some shitty free to play mobile game.

I mean that's not exactly fair to just write it off entirely because Game Freak is making it, it's already looking better than every 3D Pokemon game they ever made, which already shows how well they can make decent looking games when they're not being shackled to sub $20 Million budgets and Nintendo hardware, something the leaks have already illustrated.

And yes, I know there were other games Game Freak made that weren't Pokemon that makes up half of thier catalog (if you don't count the alternate or third versions of each gen's main game or remakes), but a some of them like Pulseman are decent for what they are and others like Little Town Hero are stinkers, kind of like a lot of game studios that largely focus on one single property while occasionally dipping their toes into making other games and expecting every single game that isn't the former to be 10/10 hits is ridiculous.

You might want to try giving these Non-Pokemon games (not even paying for them to do so) an open mind instead of applying the same reductionist mindset as thier pokemon output.

Pulseman is pretty good, so id Drill Dozer and I heard good things about Pocket Card Jockey too. What do all these games share in common? They are all very simple titles that could be ported to a mobile device or were designed for it. Pokemon was a one-hit-wonder, they were fine during the portable era but the moment they were forced to put on their big boy pants on with 3DS and Switch, they promptly shat themselves. They simply cannot be trusted to make big titles on consoles, let alone anything resembling AAA. They are best at making simple games and nothing else, the new game will fail horribly because that studio has zero talent and zero experience making a game like this.

Also, looking thru the Winds/Waves leaks, I am getting a feeling this will literally just be Alola 2.0 with a SV's open world and procedural generation, lmfao. Ohmori really can just make one game over and over again, huh? If it's not family drama, it's school drama or a shitty sports anime he's trying to shoehorn into the main Pokemon experience and barely any of his ideas or gimmicks work. I don't see Winds/Waves breaking the mold here. I do like how the bad guys are just wage cucks dumping hazardous waste onto the islands and hate their jobs, they might be funny to fight.

Game freak should just time down contracts so that everyone can leave at the same time if they choose so, sell the whole company away to whatever slop factory for an hundred billions and make a new game company where they work at new games funded with the money aquired this way. If disnsey buying lucasfilm has taught us something is that corporate giants do not really care about people, they care about brand. They don't care about owning the woman that designed pikachu, they care about pwning pikachu.
