DP just generally made this utterly baffling decision exclude most of the Pokemon who got new evolutions from the regional dex, with them only being available in post-game, or by inserting a particular GBA cart, or trading up from Gen III (Tangela - which meant as first all Tangrowth were evolved from GBA-native Tangela or bred from them). Which means almost half the new Gen IV weren't even available during the main story of DP. The biggest thing Platinum did for adding more available Pokemon was simply making all those lines available during the main story so all the Gen IV were actually part of the regional dex.
The gba cart insert thing was also locked to post-game, if I'm remembering right.

And I sucked at Gen 4. So I never got there legitimately.

Part of the reason gen 4 was so slow is because a lot of animations were tied to framerate. An infamous example is that the HP bars can only tick down one hp per frame, which is why it takes like two minutes for the turn to end if you one-shot a super high hp pokemon like blissey.

It really is about that bad, it's horrendous.

When we had people rage over the Switch 2 game prices (myself included), I had a feeling Nintendo/The Pokemon Company will find a way to justify a $100 for rushed slop that's probably going to be uglier, more woke /progressive, and possibly buggier than SV. I didn't expect them to release an incomplete game at $60-70usd (depending on the version you buy), and then charge you $30 for day-one, disc-locked content with pay-to-win, fomo elements and shitty megas. It gives me a little hope that more people are bitching about ZA even though it will sell a billion copies next month. They're apparently releasing a Switch bundle with the game, so expect the media and the Nintendo fanboys like Prime and Harman Smith to brag how ZA sold a trillion copies, ignoring he fact people bought the bundle instead of the keycard and dlc together. Is there even hype for this game?! I don't see it out of the usual fanboys on the Pokemon youtube channels.

There are some megas I like, but I'll just wait for them to hit Pokemon Go. Speaking of Go, Max content is totally pointless now that people have Eternatus (which only a few whales and youtubers will level and max, and even some youtubers aren't gonna bother with it) and the upgraded dogs. They dropped the ball on Max fights.

Seeing the disdain for the upcoming game and them mentioning you play Go gave me whiplash.

I dread the thought...
that ZA Elite four is as horrendously shitty as Scarlet Violet Elite 4

I mean usually the Elite Four is a challenge to show how much u've grown throughout your journey
but Scarlet Violet Elite 4 is 3 retards, 1 chad and the worst "champion" imaginable.

I just got an email from POGO mentioning a level cap of fucking 80. It was already grueling to get to 50 (something I never did, I think I uninstalled at 44), do you get all XP from non-walking events now or something or are you supposed to circle the globe to gain a level? Also, did they revert the muttification of player avatars?

I just got back into Pokemon TCG Pocket. Today, I got a Raikou Ex, Solgaleo Ex, and Tinkaton Ex.

I was obsessed with it when it came out and had decks in each different type.
My life got busy though and I just stopped playing it one day, missing a bunch of packs.

I need to update my decks, working on making a Zeraora Deck and trying to get a 2nd Giratina so I can make a Giratina-Darkrai deck since that seems to be better than my old Darkrai-Weavile deck.

There's something kinda cute and endearing about the old 3D models in games like Snap/Stadium.
I've been appreciating low-poly art styles a lot more lately.
Although Gen 5 sprites are where Pokemon peaked artistically, in my opinion.
I wish they would make another pixel-sprite game, but I know they never will, since "3D is the future" or whatever.
I hate that nowadays, we've had the same Creatures Inc. 3D models since the XY era.
Some Pokemon look so botched in the new models too, like I hated the way Typhlosion looked so naked without his flames. I think they fixed some of the models though in recent games, but I haven't played Scarlet/Violet.

Speaking of old Pokemon things I find adorable and endearing: what are the threads' thoughts on Fat Pikachu? I love him.
I have a few pieces of merch/plushies from when he was fat. I don't know why they put him on Ozempic.
He was so much cuter when he was fat. I also really like his Gen 1 sprite where he has a belly pouch.

I stopped playing new pocketmons vidya after Gen 6. The last 'mon game I got was Y version.

(Which was just a few years ago or so. I did get Alpha Sapphire when it was new back then.)
I played a bit of Legends Arceus, though I never finished it. It was great to see the formula switched up.
I'd say that's the only modern Pokemon game I'd really recommend playing. As well as the mobile game, TCG Pocket, it's pretty fun.
The new Pokemon Snap also looks interesting, but not $60-interesting. Might hack my Switch to be able to pirate it.

Also I just edited my previous post to sperg about Fat Pikachu, what are your thoughts on him vs Ozempicchu?

The only vidya of the TCG I've played is that first GameBoy game. Almost all of the cards in the vidya are from the Base Set, and the Jungle and Fossil expansions.
TCG Pocket gives you free packs everyday, and it's basically a quick-play version of the real card game. You have 20 cards in your deck instead of 60, and there's no energy cards - instead you just automatically get an energy each turn. I never played the Gameboy game. You should give Pocket a try. Despite being a "gacha", it's also extremely generous, I have so many rare cards. It even lets you trade cards.

wat (haven't heard of)
Ozempicchu is just a joke name I have for Modern Non-Fat Pikachu, since Ozempic is a weight-loss drug.

Oh right, I forgot to update my Home Pokédex completion report.
  • Kanto: Complete (thanks to GO-to-LGPE transfers)
  • Galar: Missing Silvally but I have a spare Galar-caught Type: Null for that
  • Armor: Missing the Porygon line but that's easy thanks to PLA, Kubfu was easily obtained with a Shiny Roaring Moon
  • Crown: Missing the Lileep line due to a combination of laziness and odd Pokémon placements.
  • Hisui: Complete
  • Paldea: Complete
  • Kitakami: Complete
  • Blueberry: Complete
  • Sinnoh: Far from complete, the more I'm looking at it the more I realize that I need Shining Pearl to complete it.
I also got my two Prismatic Evolutions boxes in the mail, they were fun to open but I'm officially swearing off any PRE products (unless I find that Umbreon/Espeon box in the wild for MSRP) from this point on.

Eh, Pocket's nice but you really have to keep up with sets if you want to stay competitive (or even somewhat competent, some of the expert CPU matches are a pain without meta decks).
It even lets you trade cards.
Except for the fact that you can only trade with friends and that you can only trade cards with rarities between 1 Diamond and 1 Star, meaning you can't trade for cards like alternate rares or promo cards.

I actually couldn't find Pokemon cards in Walmart - an employee told me he thinks they stopped carrying them recently. I had to go to a gaming hobby shop (and definitely paid a premium for it).

Is the Pokemon TCG having its day in the sun/is now being played by people (as opposed to kids collecting them 'cause cool Pokemon pictures)? Or is it just scalpers looking to make a quick buck?
I think there’s a lot of fatigue in retail regarding them. 2 of the local Walmart stores and the target have decided to stop carrying them. One of the Walmart stores is now just going to have those repackaged 30 card bulk packs with a bulk holo guarantee until they can get rid of them. I wouldn’t count on people wanting to actually play, most of the people who only collect don’t have the mental capacity to play.

Wait, is Pokemon TCG difficult? I was always under the impression it was a simplified, more kid friendly version of Magic.

Yeah, in my area no major retailers seem to be stocking Pokemon cards. I didn't even see the repacks you mentioned - they just carry those Disney trading cards (Loracana?) & sports cards.Pokemon seems to be regulated to hobby shops with armed security (although it's Oklahoma so small businesses' being armed goes without saying).

It's a shame scalpers ruined a card game/collecting game meant for children, since I cannot imagine most parents having the freetime of a childless auntie to call up random small stores/go on a scavenger hunt just for Pokemon cards. & the cards sold on Amazon are often tampered with/fake/insanely overpriced, so that's not a decent option to obtain them either.

It is, but one of the most common excuses is that the game is too difficult to learn when that’s never been the case. It’s easier for them to say that than look at how the game is played.

It’s an unpopular opinion I maintain, but getting rid of things like alternate art rare cards would drive a large gambling aspect of it off and then let things cool down to how things were prior to the introduction of them. There’s too many scummy sellers and scalpers popping up to ever regain that lost trust of the overall community, sadly, and it’s lead to kids no longer wanting anything to do with the cards.
