Mega Victrebell is the exact same concept but bigger.
Actually I would categorize Mega Victrebell as "the artist's poorly disguised fetish"
I think this one is Raichu-y enough.
The attention is in the details.
  • Pikachu and Raichu's tails are distinctly different. Raichu-X's tails are just Pikachu's tail but blown up. One of the things Alolan Raichu got right was using that tail difference to it's advantage by making it into a surf board to portray the whole "Hawaii surfing" theme. if Raichu had a proper mega, the logical conclusion would be that it's tail would be longer than, if not something similar to, it's original tail.
  • Raichu's cheecks are yellow. Pikachu's cheeks are red.
  • The skin color is off. Raichu is supposed to be darker, and outside of things like Mega Charizard X, no other Mega Pokemon has a skin color alteration to their original forms.

Probably is..

The megas in these games are using older evolution parts. Dragonite is obvious, Weepinbell's mouth. Chestnaught has the head crest of Quilladin, The other two are just "it gets bigger" but the fox's shoulders look more like the 2nd stage.

I'm guessing Z-A's design philosophy for Megas was they would express lower evolution traits as part of their new design. I don't think it works but I understand why they did it.

Any one want to join me in a conspiracy theory? The reason these Megas are like this is copyright claim. There are so many Mega dragonite designs out there using Dragonair as it's base with larger wings they had to do something different. They couldn't risk being sued for stealing a fan design so the megas look terrible to avoid crossing over with existing designs.

Here's a music video of a song called "battle gene M", a Cynthia's theme remix composed by Masuda. Masuda's band (MTM) is performing it and he's playing the keyboard here. I think this recording cuts it off half way for some reason.
https://youtube.com/watch?v=sTLK-p306Eg
Just another reason gen4/5 era GF was peak.
The connection to MTM was easily one of the craziest parts of the freakleak/teraleak. For a long while, this video was circling around and people were wondering if it was some sort of wild battle theme:
Only for that freakleak to actually have it in there.
Gen4/5 was so peak that with the teraleak you can tell Game Freak got to finally fuck around and have fun with making all the games in that era after flying off their asses developing gens 1/2/3 all in such a short time frame. There was even a bit of it in Gen 6.

I think if they actually wanted to remove it they'd just never include it's line in any regional dex. It's made it's way in to 7 or 8 since it's design change.

They probably couldn't create a new design for it's evolution, it's gimmick is very very one note.

I think Jynx could have some potentially great designs. Psychic and Ice leave room for some creative themes, as well as Jynx being somewhat humanoid. But I also think that Nintendo may not touch Jynx, and just shuffle them into games without much attention. Which has been happening since Gen 3.

If Jynx was going to get another form, it would have been in Gen 4 with Magmar and Electabuzz. In Gen 8, if they really wanted a Psychic/Ice type, they had Jynx, but instead went with Mr Mime. It's pretty clear that Jynx isn't going to vanish from the games, but that Nintendo is not going to do anything for that Pokemon again.

Speaking of new forms, no justice until all the starters get mega-evolutions. How does Typhlosion get a regional form before a mega? If you're going to introduce a feature, Gamefreak, at least don't stop until the starters get them. Meganium doesn't need to be even more behind.

And I did say it was Raichu-y enough. It's a lot closer than the Y Mega for sure.
Is it? X has Pikachu's colors and two massive Pikachu tails while Y has Raichu's colors and long tail. They seem evenly-mixed to me.

What bothers me most about the Mega Raichus is that they're both fused with Pikachu. I wouldn't mind if one of them was a fusion and the other was a proper Mega, kinda like how Mega Charizard Y looks like a natural evolution while X is more experimental, but making both of them two versions of the same concept feels like a waste.

They also look dumb. I get what @Anonitolia said about them looking AI-generated, especially Y's double ears, they look like something an AI would've come up with.

So, uh, does anyone here know what the fuck is going on in the Pokemon card world? Like, a brief summary for normies?

'cause I just had to show my ID to a store manager to buy my nephew Pokemon cards, which were locked up behind a gate in a card/hobby store. Apparently this is a policy due to Pokemon card theft related violence? Wtf, 2025.

I know my local Walmart had started putting all their trading cards - that aren’t just loose packs of Sports Cards - in a locked cabinet, and some of the surrounding stores were already doing so.

If I had to make a guess - scalpers buying out the stock on release day, combined with theft that there’s not enough staff to watch for, means everything gets locked up now. Again, except Sports Cards, but they’re a different breed of autism…

It started back during Covid years. Tons of people were getting into scalping and using collectables as investment back then. Old video games and Pokemon cards are two things that got particularly hard. I think there was also a couple big youtubers that made videos of them selling old Pokemon cards for dumb amounts of money, but I don't remember specifics. In any case, Pokemon card scalping got huge and never really cooled off like some other things, there's tons of stories and footage of adults basically raiding stores for Pokemon cards as soon as they get stocked for sale, tearing apart displays and aisles trying to stuff their carts with as many card boxes as they can and getting into fights with others over it. Stores have had enforce all sorts of security or limits on buying Pokemon cards to try and cool it down.

I actually couldn't find Pokemon cards in Walmart - an employee told me he thinks they stopped carrying them recently. I had to go to a gaming hobby shop (and definitely paid a premium for it).

Is the Pokemon TCG having its day in the sun/is now being played by people (as opposed to kids collecting them 'cause cool Pokemon pictures)? Or is it just scalpers looking to make a quick buck?

Oh, wow. Well, that explains why the store employees were all shifty & treated me like I was a methhead trying to buy tons of Sudafed. They even had an employee stationed near the door, like they thought I was gonna grab the card sets & dash! (I was offended. I'm not some trash that shoplifts children's playing cards!)

Anyway, I hope my nephew enjoys his Pokemon cards. Don't think I'll be buying him more, it triggered too much social anxiety (also, it took forever to find them - they're never in stock. Not even Gamestop had them!)

tell me you don't live in a blue state without telling me you don't live in a blue state.

Hell, Toys'R'Us back in the 90's had NES games caged behind a gate where you had to present them the game ticket in whatever isle the games section was. This is nothing new.

Paul brothers did it.

They started to lock them behind bars when fights became common place. Adults pulling guns on each other over pokemon card.

You're a faggot. Get over it.

Pokemon cards weren't behind bars. A lot of stores used ordering slips for buying games because it's easier than trying to stock them on a shelf. Even game shops didn't keep the discs in the case, you took an empty case to the register and they gave you a full copy.

The gameplay is nothing like Mystery Dungeon. I would kill for a new Pokémon Mystery Dungeon if it was anything like Explorers.
You're misinterpreting my shitpost.

The only trainer referenced is the ditto's and it's implied the trainer is dead. You're going around building a society for Pokemon with no trainers in sight and the zoom out at the end reminded me of the towns from the PMD games even if only at a glance.

Of course the mechanics are different which is why I said "Spin Off" in addition to prequel. It would also make sense to have different mechanics since the mystery dungeons themselves are plot related and wouldn't have been a thing when the Pokemon society first got going.

I would kill for an Explorers remake.
The first game's remake is a good game but I was pretty disappointed with it. There were just way too many little things that annoyed me. The original game's sprites are so much better than the stilted animations of the 3D models too.

I liked the watercolour paint style, but I found it all hard to look at idk. I think if I replayed it now I'd enjoy it more. It sold more than any other MD game so I'd imagine a Explorers remake will happen. But probably only if Creatures/Nintendo need a game to fill in space on a slow year.

Why were only a few species shiny too? C'mon Spike Chunsoft.

Story is the main reason why people remember PMD and GTI and Super were both bad.
The gameplay is so tight, you're sleeping on it man.
