I’ve been fully convinced that they’re just sick of making Pokémon at this point. Frankly, I can’t even blame them because they’ve been doing it for so long and it’s been made readily apparent to them that the quality of the end product doesn’t affect sales. They need to start letting other studios make spin-offs again (that aren’t shitty mobile games).
Its not only that, its the fact Pokemon Company and Nintendo wont let them do other things.

Game Freak isn't sick of making Pokemon (as seen with the concept art for Pokemon BDSP and Legends Arceus), they just dont have enough time nor technical skill to pull it off well. Simply put, logging around legacy Pokemon and factoring in everything and doing that in a short amount of time has made them way too bloated. But then again, Game Freak through their history hasn't been well known for their technical prowess (Gold and Silver needing help from Satoru Iwata, Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire originally planning to add the cries from Stadium, Struggles with the DS hardware, etc.)

It doesn't help that GF were routinely forced onto new hardware as soon as they finally figured out how to use the old one. If they'd been allowed to continue making games for systems they actually had experience with instead of being yanked around I doubt we'd have nearly as many issues.

This weirdly wasn’t a problem with the GBA. But that’s because they started development in 2000 with that. Also the DS hardware they really did have a difficulty.

People forget that DP was originally gonna be released in 2005 but was delayed to 06.

>Mega Malamar design so shitty no one is even talking about it
At least that’s the story I’m choosing to go with. For clarity:

What are you talking about, Malamar was already meant to be a Power Rangers super villain and this just doubles down on that. This looks fucking great.

In fairness, we’ve all been somewhat distracted by “how the fuck did the patent office let this shit slide through?”

It looks fine, but as said above, Malamar is maybe two steps removed from being a Super Sentai villain, his Mega is just them taking those steps. It’s fine, even if I’ll likely forget about it when I stop looking at it.

>what feels like the 25th “haha long” design over the course of 3 Gens
Sorry, not accepting these or the facial hair designs anymore.

I've been pretty underwhelmed with the Megas so far. It's ironically Victreebel looking like a stupid goofy fat fuck that I like the most, if only because it's somehow the most interesting so far. And honestly I think they should only give Megas to Pokémon that are already at the end of a three-stage evolution or like Malamar where they can't evolve anymore. Unless I'm mistaken, there are no Pokémon where they need a special requirement to evolve once, and then can evolve a second time. Like Skarmory or Hawlucha should've just gotten new evolutions instead of Megas.

I made fun of it looking like something out of Splatoon but Mega Malamar is my favorite thus far. It actually looks like a gen 6 Mega instead of a shrunken Gigantamax and it has a unique twist on the base form's design, it kinda looks like a rock or pop star with the bright colors, fancy hair and large shoulders.

Like Skarmory or Hawlucha should've just gotten new evolutions instead of Megas.
>Eviolite Skarmory

Shit, yeah, oops. I figured there had to be at least one exception, but I was too lazy to check.

Eviolite Skarmory
Fair. I never think in a competitive manner, so I didn't for the Megas either. I just like it when old Pokémon get new evolutions because I think it's neat. Who knows how long it will take for Megas to come back after this game, it being a thing only in a handful of games I guess is just another issue for me.

Skarmory feels "complete" enough that I think a Mega fits it better than a permanent evolution. Hawlucha I could imagine evolving, I think mainly cause he's a manlet, but its Mega is flashy enough that it's a bit more fitting as a temporary form than as a permanent evolution.

Out of any of the old XY Megas, Mawile and Banette are the two big ones that feel like they should have been permanent regular evolutions. Absol and Manectric maybe could have been too. I know some people make fun of Mega Manectric being a giant fur lightning bolt, but I think it looks better than standard Manectric dumb pointy cone head. Houndoom (version counterpart to Manectric in XY) I could also see evolving, but it would need to go in a different, less bulky direction than Mega Houndoom.

Of the ORAS Megas, mainly I think Audino should have been a regular evolution. Lopunny is on the cusp where I can see it either way as a temp form or permanent evo. Sableye could use a regular evolution like Mawile, but I think would need to be different from its Mega. It could still keep the gem shield, but Sableye itself would need to change more than just being Sableye with red eyes.

Only redeemable in Scarlet & Violet. It seems that you get the cross-version legendary.

See this link for further restrictions—or, wait for an English version to get published and hopefully clear up some of the ambiguity.

This might sound really corny, but I always get a sad feeling whenever I replay the DS era games. I know that deep down it is really unlikely for pokemon games to reach that quality again. The amount of content, well balanced difficulty, and overall heart and soul poured into gens 4 and 5 will never be reached at least in the near future. Like I don't even think the 3DS or even the Switch era is (completely) horrible. Like even if after Legends ZA pokemon enters another golden age on the switch 2, we still had to go through overall mid GF poured out the last decade.

It's Japan only for the time being. I assume once this is done, they'll come out in other countries.

I'm not sure where Serebii got their information from, but they seem to think that the event is only going to take place in Japan. the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. (link)

It's a recent update, so maybe they'll update the list with more countries as time goes on.
If not, I'll see if I can drive around to the local Gamestops and get extra codes for people who live outside of those countries.
