Pokemon Battle revolution is only upheld because people wanted to dunk on SWSH, but outside of that context it is a pretty lackluster successor to not only coliseum but to the stadium games.

There was effectively nothing to do outside of battling, and even then I don't like the prior games you were basically forced to use a generation 4 and one team that were completely gimmicky and literally no other Pokemon unless you transfered your DP team.

It didn't even account for Pokemon Platinum stuff either because it was developed too early, so it really has aged relatively poorly IMHO.
 
And any interest in Champions just died. I haven't seen this posted anywhere, but the Pokemon Friends game is just as big a shit show as the other slop out there. It's meant for really young kids, but you can only do 10 puzzles a day unless you pay $9.99 to keep on playing. Then you have to buy separate disc-locked content packs to to get all of the game's current content, and each dlc is somewhere around $15usd. You can buy everything for $33. I just want to point out back in the day, you had a completed Pokemon game for $40. Let that sink in.. Why do I have the feeling the Eternamax event in Pokemon Go is going to be a shit show?


If the leaks or rumors about ZA being a mix of SV and Arceus are true, this game is going to suck ass.

There is no hype surrounding ZA. Nobody is talking about it, and after one of the longest news droughts of any game, the only thing Game Freak cares to reveal is a Dragonite with wings on its head. They aren't even trying to market this game.
I know that at the end of the day this is a Pokemon game, but if things keep going this way I honestly believe it will bomb.

Yeah, I remember how bad it was. Pokefags got exactly what they deserve, they got their KANTOOOO and that's all they will ever have now.
Same goes for something like, say, Call of Duty where it became a national sport to shit on the jetpack entries. You know what we got out of that? Two of the world's shittiest WW2 shooters(pozzed to high heaven btw) and nu-Modern Warfare slop, but even those memberberries aren't enough and now Acitvision is going to run Black Ops brand to the ground as they're this allergic to trying something new again. Once again, those who complain have nobody to blame but themselves and I hold no pity for the state of either franchise.

Probably a collection of minigames from a scrapped project Nintendo decided to make it's own separate game. Then they added cancerous microtransactions to see just how far they can push the envelope when the new mainstream titles drop. Everyone who even tolerated the shitty DLC packs from Sword/Shield and Scarlet/Violet are to blame for this, and I hereby congratulate you for ruining this franchise even more.

It's because the effect it fairly decent in the current format and the card is only available in a single set while Iono, Marnie, and Klara were lumped into other sets and/or various products like League Battle Decks (Carmine is an outlier since the only deck that really uses it in large amounts is Pecharunt Donk). There's also the fact that the waifu tax only kicks in when dealing with FA/IR/SIR cards.

I also forgot about Lillie, but those cards I mentioned were never $3 when they came out and before they got reprinted and put into decks. The waifu tax makes more sense when you realize that the pull rates on this set are bad when there’s an IR for every Pokemon in a set that’s split in two, including the shitmons like cryagonal. Hell, even PRE budew wasn’t so much when it came out and people thought that was going to break the game.

It was an aging demographic that was getting tired of the formula and their solution to this, while pretty good in retrospect, was a phenomenenly bad idea back then, not helped by how they did the anime. ignoring the kanto stuff can anyone tell me that locking behind so many of the old pokemon to late in the game, and giving what at the time had to have been a pretty big difficulty spike, was the right call? in any other situation it would be, but you need to ease people into that shit.

Did that actually alienate a significant long-time fans that still played the games, though? I feel like people have forgotten just how many people there were in the 2000s who only played Red/Blue back in the day but continued to show up in the comments for any Pokemon news to complain about how everything new from Pokemon sucks and is all downhill from Gen 1. I swear most of the people who were bitching on the internet about Black/White back then didn't even play the video games at all.

The problem with Pokemon Black and White (coming from somebody who was around to see the discussion) is that people were using as an example to highlight that GF was lazy and behind the times.

The consensus is that pokémon fans were autistic boot lickers who for whatever reason basically consume the same thing over and over again and didn't demand that game freak upscale the franchise like Zelda and Mario had done.

Outside of that the Pokemon designs were controversial because they are legitimately regional forms of generation 1 Pokemon and they were even stated to basically be as such.

It's kind of crazy to think that the sentiment now has largely reversed on itself where most of the kids who grew up with generation 5 are more or less the current generwunners and feel vindicated by how sloppy things have turned out thanks to the shift to 3D.

People were saying that about all the Pokemon games though, but they were kind of right. Pokemon had, and still continued to at least to SWSH, clung too hard a specific formula for how the games play out. BW at least had some small change-ups in making the evil team plot more prominent and having animated sprites. The big I remember BW specifically get shit for was people being overly eager for the series to become 3D. Like there was there these people who were all

Imagine playing BW and not appreciating the spritework of every pokemon at that point, new or old.

I fucking WISH we went back to that. Now it's the same boring models except with either the brightness/saturation fucked with depending on what game it is. They can't even give them different animations to give them SOME sort of personality.

The spritework was liked, the animations on them and the constant zoom in on them wasn't very well liked and made people overly focus on that instead of the spritework

The thing about game freak is that they are incredibly skilled at 2D to the point that drill dozer is considered one of the best metroidvania games of all time, and they made that on top of making Pokemon emerald.

While I do have some critiques with bw, I feel like a part of the criticism was just placed in people having an obsession with anything 3D but now people understand that there is a lot about 2D that just makes it age better.

You can take a look at something like Pinocchio from 1940 something and it will look leagues better than something like wish even though it's on the cusp of being over 80 years old.

Likewise something like Pokemon scarlet and violet is going to age worse and worse the better game freak gets with their style.

A lot of old head RPG fans would make the same argument about the RPGs we got in the 90s compared to what we get now
