That’s what makes this so bad and funny. These newer Pokemon card collectors on average have dented skulls from being dropped on their heads as infants. Once the dopamine from ripping packs and having to wait in line for yet another mediocre SV era set at a 4x markup goes away and once there’s no more cards being submitted, then the business model will show its true colors as everything crashes worse than it did prior to r/wallstreetbets niggers trying to get retards to buy GME.

I haven't had ot crash yet. But I've had lots of glitches. Particularly with the picnic table not showing up. Yeah. I can't make sandwiches or check up on egg progress like that. So I have to reset every time due to the glitch being persistent. I really wish the game ran better. Despite the jank I did like exploring the different environments.
 
TPCi just listed a set of activities and side events happening at this year's World Championships in Anaheim on the event's official site.

A lot of these were present last year but the I believe the Pin Trading event is new, kind of ironic it's being done here due to the event's close proximity to the Disneyland Resort and the lack of decent official non-Pokemon Center Pokémon pins.
The following side events have also been listed:

  • The Switch Series: Saturday, August 16 - 9:30 a.m. The Switch Series is a set of large scheduled events held on Saturday morning in same three formats as the World Championships. Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet players can team up to compete in a Regulation I Event, Pokémon GO players will compete in a Great League event, and Pokémon TCG players will play in a TCG Standard Tournament. These are larger and longer events with some of the best prizes of the weekend on the line, including promos, Pokémon Center merchandise, and the top prize of a Nintendo Switch series system for each tournament's champion.
  • The Pokémon Sisterhood League: Saturday, August 16th - 2:00 p.m. The Pokémon Sisterhood League is a side event series to celebrate the women and nonbinary Trainers that are a part of our community! An inclusive tournament open to all women trainers in attendance, we hope that these events serve to create a safe and welcoming space for our Trainers.
  • Pokémon TCG Pocket Double Deck Open Championships: Saturday, August 16th - 10:00 a.m. Pokémon's newest mobile game gets its own casual Championship event this weekend! Players will play in the Double Deck format - using two different decks to win two game with no Pokémon shared across both decks. Number of rounds determined by attendance, no prize wall tickets awarded but additional prizes for top finishers, the Top 8, and Champion of this event.
  • Mystery Tournaments: Looking for new, exciting ways to play your favorite game? Come try the unique rules on offer for these events. Players should make sure to bring a Standard-legal deck or team with them (or Great League team for GO players) and be prepared to play with them in unexpected ways (or need to use something new altogether). No Prize Wall tickets are awarded for these events, but players will receive prizes for each round played!
A lot of these are standard fare but this is the first time a TCG Pocket side event has been featured at a TPCi-sanctioned tournament. Oh, and that Sisterhood League sounds like it'll prime lolcow watching by the description alone.

if this were anywhere but California, I'm sure this would lead to a fucking torrent of sexual harassment cases
as-is, I'm sure they'll happen but the police won't do shit about them
I wonder if this was added as some kind of qualifier for the event to be in California? This is the first time I'm hearing of anything like it at any official event, which is especially interesting given that the last world championship was in a nearly as-blue state (Hawaii) but didn't have this kind of side event

A quick Twitter search says that it’s been a side event at other smaller-but-still-kind-of-important tournaments like Europe’s SPEs, NAIC, and LAIC and have been held since last year. That said it IS the first time Worlds has hosted this kind of side event before.

As far as it being a last-chance qualifier (which haven’t been a thing in Pokémon for years, I think the last time they did them was back in 2022 and even then it was only for Pokken) for Worlds that’s something even the V-Pass/Rainbow Pass can’t give you, you have to compete in the big leagues like everyone else.
 
Watching /vp/‘s /tcg/ continuing to seethe over a deck that will rotate out after worlds winning NAIC is hilarious, especially with how terrible that Marnie’s Grimmsnarl deck was. The only saving grace was that it was played by a natal woman, and not another troon like that Millar fаggоt troon. It makes no sense to be upset by Gardevoir ex winning anything given how much has had to change to remain as consistent as it has and the fact the winning list changes a lot from event to event. Instead they don’t seem to have a grasp on the metagame and just want to complain that the same tera box deck they’ve piloted since rotation is falling out.

Having been to a fair amount of collectacons and other card shows, I don’t like the idea of attending an event where you can trade with other collectors. There’s too many scumfucks in the hobby that will happily steal from other collectors at worst and rip you off at best. TPCI is out of touch and doesn’t seem to know what kind of fuckery goes on at these events outside of their hosting. I remember back in the day pulling the mewtwo star as a kid at a card show and having a man in his 40s try to pressure me into trading it for a bunch of bulk that’s still below $1. He got angry at me over it, but I was glad that there were sensible adults there to tell him to fuck off.

I still have that card, but it serves as a reminder to be wary of a lot of shitty adults in the collecting hobby.
 
Man, I really love shit like this. Like I subconsciously noticed some of these, but never thought more about it for years. It's so bizarre.
 
Anyone play any good romhacks or fangames lately? Considering brute forcing my way through Snakewood, but I'd like something that's not edgekino.

Emerald Crest is gearing up for a big overhaul 1.1 version that will break old saves, so I’ve mostly been tooling around there trying to complete the dex. It is another Emerald decompilation hack among thousands, but so far I’ve been enjoying it.

Pokémon Scarlet & Violet offered up some excellent gameplay on Switch, but technical competence, performance - and decent visuals - were definitely off the table. While the core artwork has not been improved at all, the Switch 2 upgrade is a huge boost over the Switch 1 equivalent. In this video, Oliver revisits the Switch 1 version, finding that not much has changed since launch, while discovering just how much of a revelatory improvement Switch 2 horsepower and DLSS adds to the mix.

I'm used to Pokémon games being displayed on a screen of 256x192 pixels, if not smaller.
I'm used to a character's "texture" being about 10 pixels wide, and not being able to see anything that was more than maybe 12 tiles away from yourself.

Sure, it would be nice if the trees and the grass looked better.
But if Game Freak is just trying to make a better Pokémon game, these things are some of the last things that I'm worried about.

If they had just made Scarlet and Violet in Orre, none of this would be a problem. Tree pop up? How? There's NO TREES.
