Pokémon (Not-So) Griefing Thread - Scarlet and Violet Released with 10 Million Copies in First 3 Days in Buggy States

I think Pokemon coliseum would basically remedy a lot of the critiques people throw at the series while simultaneously pushing people to actually become interested in VGC.

The battles aren't necessarily harder than the average core game, but the double format completely recontexualizes the way we are forced to engage with the mechanics.

We could also use this of course to diversified gym leaders and what they specialize in too.

The anime power-of-friendship BS added by the affection system was genuinely one of the worst ideas. I think I hate this more than the gamebreaking buffs.
 
I tried out the Tera Raids a few times (grinding for fairy shards) and I swear, the pacing of the battles can range from absolute sweep to a fucked slog. In the slog, either the battle breaks and your group is kept from doing anything to advance while wasting the timer, or the raid Pokemon will blast you out even after you take the fucker down.

Fuck this mechanic, I just want to play a better co-op pokemon...

Also, is it just me, or are the hacked mons even worse this time around?

It's essentially easy-mode that helps you out when you're in a pinch, which is lame because Pokemon in general is really not that hard if you actually grind like you're supposed to.

The good thing about it is that it helps make it feel like you've become closer to your pokemon and team, which is kind of the whole point because you're on an adventure with them.

All they have to do is just chop off the dialogue but leave the heart animation as an indicator that your pokemon did a thing because they love you, and then it'll be fine.

"We have fired all our programmers and directors and hired the people that used to be at Genius Sorority. That being the case, the next game will be Pokemon: Shadow/Light Versions in which a plucky adventurer leaves their home town and has to fight back against a swelling darkness or creeping light depending on which game you pick.

Also, Pokemon Legend's Z-A or whatever is being replaced with a complete Remaster of Pokemon Coliseum complete with an open world. Since most of is desert, we're just going to use the Scarlet & Violet engine since it should be able to load the vast stretches of nothing fairly easily." (It will be a buggy mess regardless, but critically acclaimed as the best dark fantasy RPG Nintendo has ever released.)

I get what you mean. Ultra Necrozma should have knocked out my Decidueye in the climatic battle, but he held on for THREE straight turns and gave me the win. Talk about absurd luck.

We have to remember that it's geared toward new players who
1. don't already know what all of these effects do, and
2. won't be able to learn it in the first place if they're not told by the game what's happening.

I'd love for there to be an option in the settings to hide those messages.
I'd love for there to be icons that just sit next to a Pokémon in a battle to show you active stat boosts / decreases / perish song timers, or battlefield icons that indicate weather, terrain, remaining turns, etc.
Even better, I'd love for there to be an action log like you see in some RPGs or card games, where you can press a button to bring it up if you missed an effect and you want to go back and look at the list to see what happened.

But I think that the messages should stay as they are by default, until the player goes into the menu and changes that setting for themselves.
Like knowing to go change stuff like battle style or text speed.

It'd be useful to have a message log like in the PMD series, where abilities, moves, etc. are highlighted in green and you can select them to see what they do. There's even a shortcut for it, B+Y.

Someone adjusted 3D Pokémon animations, aturation, and even shiny palettes.
His YouTube shorts have plenty of these 'glow ups', one per Pokémon.

The sad thing is that they did hire the Genius guys ( James Turner use to work for them), but they now only make mobile slop like Cafe Remix and whatnot

Otherwise, idk, the Gyarados one seems like it's a much better change but everything else still feels soulless. Doesn't have the same charm to them like the Stadium game models did. Still, an effort was made, so I'll give him that.

I like the scolipede nature differences though, mainly because scolipede is my favorite pokemon. But Nature animation differences should ABSOLUTELY be a thing because it gives the Pokemon more personality and can be easily detected when you're trying to catch a pokemon with a specific nature for (competitive) team building if you're not haxing.

Is is pretty sad that the gamecube games did a better job capturing the spirit of pokemon and the anime than any of the mainline 3D games by gamefreak.
 
In the fairness, that's because most of the Colosseum games were using assets created by Nintendo EAD (the dudes that create Kirby and help with Smash) and due to stadium basically being made as a battle simulator that means they could go all out with the quality.


The problem with the Pokemon models has largely been remedied thanks to creatures Inc revamping a lot of the older models starting with Legends and that's continuing with scarlet and violet and now Legends Za.

The missing problem is that we lost the dynamic camera that we used to see on the handheld games and xy/usum.

They try to speed up a lot of the battle animations but it ends up making things look completely cheap and wonky.
 
Sometimes I’ll find lists from the Japanese part of twitter and I’ll find decks like this. The whole strategy is to either get a knockout with 8 damage counters or to use brute bonnet and then dastardly jab so that they’ll be down to 10 hp and KO’d due to poison checks. It’s complete ass and a glass cannon, but also hilarious because your prize mapping is just take the 1 prizes out and ignore the 2 prizes.
