That's still a negative for me since it makes really rare balls common, and in return ultimately useless as anyone can have them. Or it would be if I bothered to play Gen 8 and up.
Also, I'm pretty sure the only reason Gamefreak did this was to let cheaters get away with having Dream Ball mon. There was an incident with competitive players having blatantly illegal Pokemon before, that includes new Pokemon caught in balls they're impossible to be caught in, Dream Ball being the absolute rarest since it's only available on a few select Gen 5 Pokemon.
If it helps, the chance of getting a special ball in SwSh was 0.999% and 1.75% in SV and you had to grind a bit to get rolls of the gacha. I remember when the DLC were new /vp/'s wifi thread had balltists trading balls with each other or offering shinies to get the specific one they wanted. Without hacking, they were pretty rare.

Of course hacking exists so the market crashed after a while when people with hacked saves that were able to just set their ball count to x999 gave away their balls.

Sorry it took so long to reply, but I was messing around with making patches. I made romhacks for the Japanese versions of Black and Black 2 to change all the Single battles to Triple battles, but because of how the data is structured in Gen 5 the same data insertions should work just fine for White and White 2 as well, and in any language. So I went through and made 14 patches each for BW and B2W2 that applies my changes for any version/language combo. I'm sure anyone here would really only care for English, but I get annoyed when I find a romhack that only works for the American rom and I want to use it in Japanese so I made sure everyone no matter how niche has their choice. There's just tiny patches with no copyrighted data, so should be no issue just sharing them directly on here.
Oh man, thanks so much! I'll give these a try. At what point do the triple battles start? I assume the first few fights are still singles?

> decide to buy a full-art Swinub because of childhood reasons
> find one for a good price in great condition
> the tracking info says that it arrived
> it never did
I had that happen with the full art paldean wooper and the one from a town not on the map. I got them from TCGplayer direct and they wound up being returned to the warehouse halfway en route.

Was seeing some living dex videos and yeah, kinda funny how the whole "gotta catch them all" wasnt really possible unless you either own multiple systems/games or had a lot of friends. Granted, Im fine with just seeing them if im playing on emulator

They used to hide behind the fact that it was impossible to have all of the Pokemon on one cartridge natively, but now they just want you to either buy both versions, use home or find people to play with who have the opposite version.

Well, they do love money, but yeah, the moment the support for the games die, in theory you wont be able to get 100% unless you want to pay a lot of money

Somewhat related to the topic of support for games dying; sometimes I think about how there's going to be an inevitable day when they cut off the 3DS bank/transfer features and separate Gens III-V and Gens VI+.

I'm genuinely surprised that they haven't done this already, especially when they made the jump to the Switch and Dexit happened. It seemed like the perfect time to drop support for the transfer tool. I can imagine the older fans who still replay Gens III-V and enjoy transferring up to Home will not be happy when that day comes. Yes, that's probably a minority of a minority of people who still actively play the newer entries in the franchise, but that minority of a minority is probably filled with very loyal fans. I can also totally see a situation where you just can't get a certain Pokemon anymore. Like the game they were in was III-V and Game Freak seemingly forgot how to add them to whatever modern game they churn out too so there's no way to get it besides trading or breeding.

I don't think this will be Dexit 2 or something, but surely this is a ticking time bomb for that minority of fans, right? Or am I just being schizophrenic? Both can be right of course.

As soon as the first trainer on Route 2. The first fights against Cheren and Bianca are singles since you and them could only have one Pokemon obviously, and I think I left N with just a Purrloin for the first fight with him in Accumula Town, but after that it's all triples all the time except in battles that were already doubles. You'll need to immediately start making use of Route 1 shitmons.
Tip: The first Gym Leader no matter who you fight uses all three elemental monkeys, the only difference the one your starter is weak to will be in the center position.

and if you're doing a nuzlocke, you want every bit of edge you can. There is a reason why every single game has designated EV training spots for experienced players, past a certain point experience doesn't matter as much as grinding out EVs does. You can't skip this grind, only shorten it if you have Pokerus.
...unless you're playing rom hack, you don't need to EV train in a Nuzlocke. The format ain't that hard.

I hate that youtubers have corrupted nuzlocking as a concept.

Great, I'm looking forward to trying it hopefully soon. Thanks again for sharing it.

Same here. I feel like we're getting to a point now where just any sort of challenge is a "nuzlocke." They are getting so convoluted and dumb, I can't stand it. I at one point stumbled upon someone's custom nuzlocke idea that involved him rolling a physical dice to see what he could use in a fight. When external things like dice are being involved, I'm immediately checked out.

Seen this posted in the dead alpha rad thread so here you go. https://youtube.com/watch?v=MNNApyl0oTA
About how there's like a third of the mon that are traced iirc
Yeah the mon sprites that are clearly just traced from 3D models/promo art look like ass, I'll give you that. However this video is absolute dogshit. Framing it as some le epic hitpiece is insane when it's just a romhack made out of hobbyist interest/passion. Doing le epic slomo zoom ins on a few graphic glitches and typos is so insanely tone deaf. no idea who this coon guy is but he gives me reverse lolcow vibes like what people who are still obsessed with DSP give me, just look at that fucking description.

When you pu things that way, that actually make sense. Loads of ROM hacks have traced promotional art and 3D models; they simply wer either earlier hacks or amateur hacks.
The otherwis excellently-made hack made these tracings really stand.

I think it's less to do with it being a lazy romhack and more that it was commissioned by a youtuber, ie someone paid for this slop

Yeah there is definitely a conversation to be had there, that video was just ass.
So much of the work was already done, it's not like they were making a whole new game. Even the attacks and abilities are all pre-existing Pokemon stuff. To pay a professional team for this who then goes on to trace 30~ of the 151 new sprites is just insane. That's one of the few things they actually had to create themselves, and they took one of the laziest routes possible with it. What the fuck was he even paying for at that point?

Does anyone have any favorite fan made regional/type shifted/Delta Pokemon?

If you were going to design one of your own what would you go with?

I'm totally not asking because I'm trying to build up a library of images to use as tokens for Pokemon tabletop

>Ice/Steel
So it's a worse Alolan Sandslash, given it's speed is complete shit, a Fighting and/or Fire attack will destroy it in one hit,

I want Magcargo to be BETTER, not WORSE.
Yeah I love me some Magcargo and wish it was better. I'll almost always ignore what the artist wanted for types though. Like for this Magcargo I'd probably just make it mono Ice, then again I would have made Alolan Sandshrew/Sandslash mono Ice because they have like 0 Steel in their design at all.

Started breeding Pokemon I will use in my new Heartgold romhack playthru. Things are going to get slow, as Gen 4 doesn't have the quality of life changes Gen 3 romhacks brought like infinite use TMs or lower amount of BPs required for Tutor Moves in Battle Frontier. Moreover, with no Pokebank equivalent in Gen 4, like Trigger's PC was for Gen 3, I will have to manually transfer Pokemon 6 at a time between two DS consoles, with an added step of transfering Romhack Pokemon to a legit GBA cart if I am using the PokePark. This might take a while, but at the same time it gives me an excuse to go back and try and get more medals in Gen 4 Battle Frontier.
For those interested, I'm planning to play this one, unless something else comes up and I have to choose another romhack:
I wanted to play on Challenge mode, but no EVs is a dealbreaker for me. Wish I could just have harder teams and 6 Pokemon gym trainers.

I despise all fakemon. There is already so much official Pokemon, I would rather just have all of them under one roof as a sandbox and see how much I can experiment with them. Gen 3 has a surprising amount of strategies and teams, and that Gen has "only" 386 Pokemon. Most Pokemon added forward ended up either being useless or just being better Pokemon from former years, totally invalidating the former's existence. More variety is not always better.
