When I say this is a kids game and it should have stayed a kids game, I meant it. Pokemon is at it's root not meant to be competitive and the staff at Game Freak are so inept that any attempts they make at balancing it around competitive play will only serve to further fuck over the base gameplay of Hero's Journey Simulator: Pet Monster Edition.
There's this saying that players will optimize the fun out of a game if given the opportunity. Pokemon was not designed to be a competitive game.

IVs are the best example, they were meant to make every Pokemon unique, so that even two mons of the same species wouldn't be identical. This Garchomp can hit a little harder while this one is faster, like genetic variations among real animals. Which is why for the longest time it was a hidden value.

But in the realm of competitive, you try to get every advantage you can. So competitive players started bitching that a hidden mechanic which wasn't meant to be exploited was hard to exploit (not helped by the fact that Nintendo's yearly tournaments have a cash prize for the winner, so there's a financial incentive to this), and Game Freak accomodated them by gradually making the mechanic more visible and easier to exploit (power items, destiny knot, the stat judge option in gen 7, bottle caps, etc.).

It's gotten to the point where it would be better to just remove IVs, they're clearly no longer the fun secret mechanic that makes every Pokemon unique. Casuals don't care, while competitive players only care about having all IVs maxed out and will always bitch and moan that you can't do that as easily as on Showdown, so you might as well just get rid of them.

Sun and Moon and SwSh also required a Pokemon to be level 100 before you can use a Bottlecap but Scarlet Violet has also changed that into only needing to be level 50.
Question: is there an option to reduce IVs to 0 so you can have competitive trick room teams or is that done trough IV breeding still?

Pokemon Pisces came out and I will wait some time until I play it

Might check it out because of this.

I don't recall there being an option to actually reduce IVs, just EVs via berries. You can use mints to give yourself a negative speed nature starting with Gen 8 however.

Nope that is now the one thing still missing. If it's breedable then you can easily breed a 0IV onto it but if it's unbreedable like Ursaluna Bloodmoon or Enamorus. Tough luck.

Ursaluna Bloodmoon's not actually that hard. You have to trigger his cutscene while leading with a Pokemon with exactly 78 speed and if that Pokemon outspeeds Ursaluna, catch it, it's got 0IV speed. If not reset and try again.

This also applies to most Legendaries obtainable in Scarlet Violet since you just talk to them.

The real absolute awful 0IV is Enamorus. Maybe something changed since last time I looked into it since Enamorus is now also obtainable if you complete a Home Dex but if you need a 0IV speed Enamorus from Legends Arceus, A 0 Effort Level Speed Enamorus in PLA (because PLA has different stats than the main games) can become anywhere from 0 - 19 IV when transferred to a main game. So if your transferred Enamorus ended up with 19 IVs instead of 0 then you have to replay PLA to catch Enamorus again and get another shot. Or just wait for them to finally introduce negative bottle caps. They've been drip feeding new QoL each gen (bottle caps in SunMoon, Nature Mints in SwSh, most of what I said in my last post for SV) so a negative bottle cap will probably eventually come.

Not that i want to play a trick room team (the only worse thing would be stall) but i remember that being a very sore spot in competitive that just seems to be completely ignored by gamefreak since everything else related to competitive pokemon has been facilitated by other qol changes.
Yeah i think itll be added, probably for next mainline game. Or it could also go the pursuit route and just be removed entirely lol

Gamefreak absolutely hates Trick Room. You'd think they would have made a Trick Room extender by now if they didn't.

They did make the Room Service item in gen 8 that lowers your speed when Trick Room is in play, but besides that i don't think they've made any sort of support for trick room other than making slow mons with insane stats

So apparently there is going to be a Switch 2 version of Scarlet and Violet. Not expecting much but it would be cool to see if they could somehow unfuck these games in terms of the graphics and performance. Won't fix the bad characters, uninteresting world and all the other things wrong with the games but them not running like shit would be cool. Though doubtful of Gamefreak being able to actually fix their games at this point.

Edit: Also yes I am pretty sure the Sun and Moon manga was published in English, if your talking about the Pokémon Adventure style one they did right? They also released Ultra Sun and Moons manga in English as well. Honestly they have been pretty good about giving the manga a English version pretty quickly lately though the problem is that they have been relegated to young kids manga's. Meaning the physical editions quality wise suck but they are pretty cheap at about $5 a piece.

I am quite happy with this direct.
1 I am genuinely excited about the new console and games, especially DK and Mario Kart.
2. The hardware limitations are no longer an excuse for Pokemon defenders. 4k 60fps is pretty impressive for the hardware. No more of that nonsense.
3. ZA in 60fps looks a lot better than it does on the old hardware. But it still needs to improve it's texturing and other stuff VASTLY. but it's a big step up. Credit where credit is due.

Gamecube games will be on the switch 2, including Colosseum and XD.
This is interesting news. As many of you know, XD introduced some unique moves for Shadow Pokemon that aren't normally available, in some cases even today. This is the only game to get these Pokemon with these movesets from, and I assume you will be able to transfer them directly into HOME ala what Bank did with 3DS Virtual Console releases...
...Except that HOME doesn't allow you to transfer Pokemon with event moves anymore, they get reset upon transfer to your game of choice by wiping all existing moves and learning what the Pokemon would know at that level, just like as if you would encounter a wild Pokemon of the same species.
How are they going to handle this? I don't have faith in modern day Gamefreak, knowing them they will likely not update HOME and make these Pokemon essentially useless outside their home game or not even let you transfer them back to HOME and forcing them to be stuck in their game.
These ports came out way too late, the franchise is so beyond repair now that all I can think about is how they will ruin them, never mind that these games still work great on Dolphin.

The simplest answer is unfortunately the one that a lot of fans won't like: They won't be compatible with HOME.

I actually don't mind this, purely from a collector's point of view. These are about as rare as a Pokemon gets, barely anybody has the tech and the games to transfer these to the newer games anymore. I do, and it's always nice seeing that "Found in: Distant Land" and the Mt. Battle/Purification Ribbons in their bio. If they were more common and suddenly the ignorant zoomer cattle knew these games existed, we would have a whole lot more dupes/fakes/genned Shadow Pokemon as well.

They're releasing a new console soon so maybe they'll want to help sell it be bringing either generation three or the GameCube games? Core Pokémon games are pretty valuable and I think they only released the first two generation games on 3DS because they needed a round of funding and since they knew the 3DS was getting close to it's discontinuation those games wouldn't be buyable again anyway. So maybe they'd rerelease the GameCube games? Most people haven't played them, I haven't.
Called it. Everyone :optimistic:ing my post must now replace it with a :winner:. I don't make the fucking rules.

The GC games are never getting re-released, Gamefreak for some reason wants everyone to forget they exist and Nintendo seems to want the same thing to happen to vast majority of it's GC library.
eeeeuuurrrrrr

Mirror b will be canceled his theme is racist towards Mexicans.
Mexicans/Hispanics love Pokemon so I don't see that happening. What is more likely to happen is that niggers will try and cancel Miror B because they genuinely think that anyone but blacks having an afro or dreads is "appropriating black culture". Watch for some sort of censorship or even blackening happening to Miror B for the "modern audience".
