Poor fisherwoman

Look, I'm not going to moral-sperg like some people here, but even when I was younger this bothered me. There is an entire route covered in snow up to your waist, you really think people wouldn't raise an eyebrow as your character is getting hypothermia in real time? Lucas has an alright Platinum design that fit the setting, and even in DP the devs knew how ridiculous going thru that route was when both characters were still wearing their summer clothing. Now, a competent dev studio would make a new spritesheet for the winter sections(and swimming sections too, now that I think about it) so that the world would feel more reactive rather than just throwing a "Tee hee, isn't this silly how you're wearing nothing in this snowstorm? Aren't you cold!?" throwaway line from an NPC, but whatever. My point is, they knew. They always knew.

I think most people are just finding it funny how ridiculous it is. Only a few people are truly shocked, and they're likely tourists or spergs.
Moving on swamp makes snows seems like a joke. A kid wouldn't get 5 meters in mud without being too tired to even get another step lol. These snow and swamp momentos were the time to introduce HMs rather than fog or flash. Imagine a minigame where you could heat snow and find itens or berries frozen or found some stuff on the mud.

These are the movement and progress block issues that makes me hate HMs so damn much, they already did this in gen 3 with the acro and mach bikes, use a damn item to traverse the map and progress the game.

unfortunately this is (or at least was) a reality for Japanese school girls last time I read. They weren't allowed to wear anything but their skirts so they would wear long thigh highs to keep their skin warm. Japan is a fucked up country. they only recently got rid of this school thing where teachers were allowed to do mandatory panty checks to make sure ur underwear were white... like why the fuck would that be important in a SCHOOL? Japs need to be nuked again.
Did you ever play the games? You don't go to school, you're a random kid that goes on a cross country journey on your own volition. There is zero reason why your character wouldn't wear warmer clothing, unless they really are just a plank of wood that feels no cold. Not something I should point out, but every trainer on that route wears appropriate winter clothes, there is even an easter egg in Platinum where Maylene(a barefoot character) is shivering on that route as apparently she didn't bring a coat(or a pair of shoes) either to drive home how stupid this situation is.
I'm over it, but there is zero excuses. Even the devs make fun of their own laziness.
And this is just the stuff that wasn't censored in the english translation. Imagine the gross shit that remains in the jap version.
These games usually don't have much censored between releases, not unless it's an oversight like the rude gesture an RSE Sailor makes or the Registeel doing the Hitler salute in DP

Some HD promo art for GSC-ORAS, some of these are brand new to my dumbass, but they must have used somewhere right gamers? gamers?

good discussions, good chats.

Wow That art is another thing i was hoping for. Why doesn't GF release this stuff? They could make money selling art books.

You can make the same argument for basically any of the games though because they all have varied biomes and you don't change outfit. Why am I in long sleeves and trousers when I'm on Mt Pyre fighting Team Magma?

That's one of the reasons I personally am not a fan of the realistic clothing (or anything) arguments in fiction. Part of why i like fiction is because it's doesn't have to conform to reality.. I would choose style over realism probably 100 out of a 100 times. Plus it forces too much thinking and effort onto something so irrelevant.

It's the same issue with realistic armor, only not quite as extreme.

The armor debate has different issues. Once you get passed all the selective use of it. You have to start ignoring that historically not many people ever used heavy types. Or that in most cases only rich or high status could afford it, many fighting in just clothing. Speed and agility was also a practical consideration, sometimes to it's exclusion. Hell, there are cases all throughout history of people fighting completely nude. Woman just as often as men.. in fact they put it to better tactical use. lol The Amazons legend had them fighting nude. I do admit that since it's a fallacy used so often and effectively, i tend to knee-jerk sometimes. Even when it's a little more understandable. But when it really comes right down to it.. the best argument against it is that it is fantasy and doesn't have to make perfect sense.

Sorry for going off topic.

That melting and freezing thing would be awesome.. bring digging too.

You go to school in Alola by the way, and several towns throughout all the games have a "Pokemon school". Schooling is shown in the anime from S1. There's also no sense of time or season, nothing says that the games don't happen over the summer holidays as a sort of coming of age thing. I believe the Professors have actual degrees too and some mention their schooling. It just wouldn't be fun to play Pokeschool, the same way it's not fun to manage your outfit to be practical.

You could also argue the journey is the schooling, given how the elite 4 and such work in universe

So, finding a DS on my country is really hard and im not paying 300 bucks on a switch. Which you think is the best game of the series to try on an emulator? Ive head that BW2 is pretty much the peak for the sprite era.
For me the best in the series is gold, silver and crystal. Alot of the games are really good so I'm not gonna argue someone else's opinions but my reasoning is there are 16 badges and gyms and 2 regions with some cool end game content like battling red

I bet it's the gay Galarian one, too

Gen8ies, this is your mindset.jpg
The amount of reputational damage bronies have done to the online horse enthusiast community cannot be understated. (:_(
I'll always like the original better, but the Galarian one's alright.

My dude, you had a guy in a trench coat in the middle of fucking texas/arizona alongside a guy with winter clothing, same with the rangers going deep diving in normal shorts.
At some point you realize they have those designs because they look cool/its cute and not because its practical

I probably memory holed that part of the game
Yeah it's one of the worst bits lol but if you remember, you have to battle three trainers before they let you leave and one is out in the basketball court.

it's very short, and you basically just do a couple of battles and have some alola lore given to you. it's not really a part of the plot, unlike in the anime where it's pretty heavily present, or like paldea, where it's very important. it's about the same as the trainer school in violet city, just with a few trainers to fight and some items to get.

Its not that short lol its like 30-45 min with all the dialog but its pretty light on content yeah. Its not long before you leave the first city and it starts to open up a little. But yeah I wasn't making the point it was central to the game, just that they do consider things like school life, they just deem it uninteresting to gameplay.

In the anime in Kanto, in school, they even confirm the anime Pokemon have levels just like the game.

To be fair, Fallout is one of my favorite franchises and dudes wear leather there all the time. It doesn't bother me as much as the skimpy outfits in a middle of a tundra, which aren't just stupid but also would likely just leave your character dead.
Also, Wes is the best protagonist in the franchise, the runner ups aren't even close. It's a robbery we never got to see him again as the leader of Neo-Cipher.

Yeah, you're not really a student in that one as much as you're shoehorned into a shitty tutorial. Actually, that amounts to the first hour-hour and a half of the game anyways.
Also, I think every single Pokemon game starting with Gen 2 has a "Trainer School" section in the beginning, it's just a tutorial for newer players.

with all the dialog
okay now that's the part i had edited out of my memories. gen 7 dialogue overload. thanks for the reminder. and yeah, the kid in the kanto series talks about like, the levels pokemon learn moves and shit. it was interesting. that made me remember the b-button league. what were they doing in the anime to stop their pokemon from evolving?

Well, quite, but the Poke world does have schools. I'm not sure I'd go so far as to link it to pantie inspections but the point being they do exist and children do go there.

Not your character, you just wander about the entire country, on a journey that no doubt takes months, fucking about as you please, and apparently that's normal. Since a lot of kids can just legally ditch school and essentially just be full-time vagabonds, earning money by fighting other trainers, I guess there is a whole lot less competition in the more traditional fields.
Well, that and then there are all these trainers that wash out of the whole Pokemon League thing and just settle down to fuck their Pokemon, as the the fans will helpfully point out now. I posted earlier about how only the most autistic individuals who wouldn't normally have sex make it into the pro circuit and your character is one of them(which makes sense as most of the player characters are mutes), which lines up with the personalities these elite trainers usually have.
The world of Pokemon doesn't make much sense when you think about it too much. Best to just focus on the gameplay.
