There is a lot of weird shit being posted, not sure which is real and which isn't
I'd be fucking stunned if any of the nightmare fuel beta designs posted above were real.

I'm not saying it's impossible considering similar things have happened before like with the game Epic Mickey, but we need to remember Pokemon is supposed to be for children, and to be frank, these designs are fucking terrifying, and seem more akin to something you'd see in a fan game, or from a Pokemon horror artist.

If they are real, they're probably in the same vein as the above-mentioned Disney game, and were just made as a test to see what could be allowed in, and were never actually seriously considered for implementation.

We were robbed.

Holy shit, these are a gold mine

@Bunny Tracks

I believe it is real, lots of things can start and then changed, it is quite common for monster designs to start with lots of details then changing and simplifying.

Look skorupi beta design, they made the pincer smaller and removed 2 legs from it. The concept stage can change a lot of stuff like the cacturne example

There's a difference between "lots of details", and the just straight-up scary shit some of those designs are.

Again, I'm not saying it's impossible that they're real. I'm just saying I'd be surprised if they were, and if so, am almost certain they were never actually meant to be in the game, even in a simplified form, and instead were just made as a sort of test to see what was, and wasn't appropriate.

IMAGINE THE BIG LORE OF YOUR BILLION FRANCHISE UNIVERSE BEING REVEALED IN A DROP LEAKED ON THE INTERNET LOL

That is because this is your preconception of what a pokémon can be. But with these leaks, we get a glimpse of what else can be too.

Dude, I'm not saying Pokemon can't be creepy af. I'm just saying I don't think the mainline games, especially the ones from back then, would go this far.

If I'm wrong, I'm wrong. I'm just saying we should take these designs with a grain of salt because some of them seem a tad too unsettling. I will say this, though. The newer leaks about the gym leaders are starting to tip me more onto the side of them being real.

Why wouldn't they? Don't you remember that beta gen 2 that was a shark rotting with an anchor?

I am skeptical on those designs from the higher quality artwork but leaning towards believing them as official. While we can see what Pokemon designs came from the artwork, it is hard to say whether or not these are what eventually inspired the designs since people have been drawing fakemon since day one of Pokemon existing. Ken Sugimori was the main artist of Pokemon during that time too, which is heavily affecting my personal opinion on who did these artworks, even though the third generation of Pokemon was an era of Pokemon where Ken Sugimori was experimenting with his artwork and there is a chance that he did these artworks as well.

@Spoonomancer explained it for me. It's a combination of them being too creepy, and the art style being too detailed, and realistic, and not the cartoony stuff we're used to.

I'm sure they wouldn't look as scary in the Ken Sugimori style, but as we're seeing them now, something just seems off.
