Three things:

-Alolan Vulpix is a Sun exclusive, you'll need to trade with someone

Version exclusives have never been the deciding factor which game I will get. I've always relied on whichever version mascot does not look stupid. Lunala looks less stupid than Solgaleo.

-Cutiefly would be an easier Fairy to get to try out the type, it's on the first island around level 10 with a Fairy attack and everything. By comparison Popples doesn't become part fairy until the mid thirties.

I also have a difficult time figuring out which Water-Type to get. It might be easiest to just get Popplio and enjoy the Fairy-Type that comes with it. Alolan Ninetails is Fairy anyway. Besides, now that Surf and the rest of the HM's are obsolete, maybe its not that necessary for me to get a Water Type.

I thought I was through with Pokémon, but picked up Sun on a whim a few days ago and I've been really enjoying it so far (just started the second island). The last game I played was Heart Gold, so there are a lot of new features and Pokémon, which probably helps to make this one more exciting.

I don't know when it was introduced, but I love Wonder Trades. What a great way to quickly diversify your stock. I managed to get, among others, a Riolu, a Rowlet (started with Litten) and a Vulpix while still on the first island. The latter even came with Pokérus, but this was my first experience with it so I essentially wasted it by not putting an infected Pokémon into the PC to keep it "fresh", RIP.

Current team is Torracat, Rockruff, Grubbin, Mudbray, Cutiefly and Magnemite, but I've been changing things around a lot.

Wonder Trades were introduced last generation, in XY. And yes, they're extremely useful early/mid game. It's kind of a mixed bag, though. Sometimes you get great stuff and sometimes you get crap.

I don't know if it's still a thing (it probably is), but in Gen VI people did something called Wonder Trade Wednesday. On Wednesday (usually during the evening; people have given times between 2-8 PM, with 6-8 PM being the best), people send out really good Pokemon and items.

They also did the same thing on Christmas for the little kids who had just gotten the game as a present. I hatched a bunch of Delibirds, named them Santa, and gave them rare items last year

PSA in regards to Wonder Trading: if you do a lot of breeding or catch a lot of fodder and want to get rid of the rejects do it while inside the Festival Plaza castle. Every time you Wonder Trade you can talk to the avatar of the person you just traded with and get 2 FC. While this doesn't seem a lot, it adds up if you're doing a lot of trading. From my own experience, I went from Lv 13 to Lv 21 just from trading away Abra rejects.

I feel so little motivation in playing the post-game after beating the main game. Feeling pretty drained after trying to get the last of one of the 4 Kartana you need to catch and the damn thing wouldn't show up until I got a lv. 40 stock mon and Max Repelled it into fighting me and ignoring all of the fucking Alolan Raticate. That, and the lack of grinding is getting to me since even being at the same level nearly wreaks my party along with being ungodly slow.

Can't really bring myself to complete the Alolan Dex; I already got so many of the mons in my Bank excluding alolan forms and alola mons, it'd feel pointless to catch what I already worked so hard to get. No one wants to trade Pheromosa for Kartana despite getting 4 of them per game, and I don't have the time to chain up some Kommo-o to get some more mons for the Dex. I'm half tempted to chain/breed shinies now until the Bank comes back, but the odds are gonna be against me without the charm. :\

This post-game just feels as tedious as GSC's.

I'm always one of those nice people who give out quality shit via wonder trade eg. Breedjects with beneficial natures
Gotta build up that good karma in a game with fictional animals that don't matter irl

For some reason, no one wants to trade a Buzzwole for Pheromosa on the GTS. Either a huge number of people got Moon (which would change like twenty years worth of trends), or few people have gotten far enough to catch a Buzzwole yet. This is pretty unusual, since, in both Y and Alpha Sapphire, version exclusives and trade evolutions always ended up going through in like an hour for me.

What's the quickest way to trade your extra Ultra Beasts? GTS? I still don't really understand how the system works and just want to get rid of the duplicates without releasing them.

Especially odd considering that the Moon exclusive Ultra Beasts are considered overall better than the Sun exclusive ones competitively. Pheromosa/Celesteela for Buzzwole/Kartana is a steal.

I'd try to get some shinies. Or use GTS to trade for something you don't have.

The quickest way though, would be wonder trade, but you are likely to get shit

The same thing happened to me! I finally got Buzzwole (a Japanese one, specifically) but it took literally two days of waiting. I was shocked.

Yeah, I've noticed that I'm way less invested in the post game than I was for X and Alpha Sapphire. There's just not much to do. The lack of strong trainers to rebattle (aside from the Elite 4) is making it pretty hard for me to get motivated to train my Pokemon up, especially when it comes to completing the Pokedex. I may just focus on Alola Pokemon, considering that the Bank is being updated in just a few weeks and I already have everything else.

Why is Nintendo waiting so long to update the Pokemon bank?

Because they don't want people trading their super high-level Pokemon from Gen VI to Sun/Moon yet. While it's true that high-level Pokemon disobey you until you get far enough in the story, their disobedience doesn't even matter if they're at a high enough level. That level 100 Charizard doesn't have to obey you every single time for you to completely wreck the game with it.

So Nintendo is waiting until January to update the bank, because by that time all of the players (including the people who got the games for Christmas) will have already beaten the game using Pokemon from the Alola region.

Alright, I can understand that. Kind of. But you can still trade up. I already have some Lv. 60 from wonder trades. And I'm only just starting island two.

Well I guessed it wasn't really a level thing but encouraging people to use the new Pokémon out of what's available and actually trying new things instead of just importing their old favourites and building some clone team like the same old boring shit that always does the rounds (fucking garchomp)

4th gen and 5th gen couldn't get older gen Pokemon until the post game, and the original version of Pokemon Bank was heavily delayed, enough to become a meme for a short while.

2nd gen was the only gen where this kind of thing was available fairly easily, before you even got your 4th Johto badge.

That, and to actually add the update and go over it so that there's no bugs with the addition of alola mons and forms (like alolan vulpix becoming normal vulpix or reverse).

Speaking of bugs, has there been any in Sun and Moon? The only ones I know were the GTS picture bug, the supposed "corrupted save" in the Pokemon Center for cheating, and pokerus showing up as still being active and not cured when attempting to switch to another mon on the battle screen.
