Imagine being a Gamefreak dev working at the time. Their jobs got completely invalidated overnight. Why bother keeping you employed when two guys can make hundreds of millions of dollars overnight with minimal effort on a fucking Alpha test?
Because said Alpha test, as well as other successful side projects like the anime, PCG, plushies, and other tie-in merch can't go on without GF releasing their next batch of about 100 monsters every 3 years.

Alpha fucks, bayduh buxx

The real reason we don't have any Pokemon MMO is because it'd be the end of the series. Why ever make another Pokemon game for 50-70$ when you can just add DLC to the MMO? Nintendo never wanted that so we never got it. It has nothing to do with anything else.

That’s fine, because a Pokémon MMO would suck anyway.

The current Raid and Mass Outbreak events updated yesterday.

The Mass Outbreak event has Wattrel spawning in Paldea, Riolu spawning in Kitakami, and Comfey spawning in the Terarium. In addition to packing the boosted Shiny rate we saw in the last two Mass Outbreak events these ones also come with a boosted chance of having the Pumped-Up Mark.

The Raid event has Gimmighoul popping up in all 1-5 Star Raids with the 5-Star Raids having a chance of being Shiny. Sadly, GF did not learn from the last run's criticism and has kept the Shiny rate at the normal 1//4096 chance. This is your daily reminder that GF never patched the day-skip trick, that you can keep these events in you game so long as you don't connect to the Internet in-game, and that injectors keep on winning.

Funnily enough the TCG is currently set to bring back Owner’s Pokémon to the game if Japanese distributor listings are anything to go by, I suspect the mechanic will be teased at Worlds just like Pokémon ex and Past & Future cards were in years past.

Funny how the TCG is consistently the best product over the years.

Probably not. As much as I hate Sword and Shield, the core mechanics of the game are fun. If it stuck to that core, it's still be the most popular MMO ever and the most endlessly money printer the series has ever had. It's honestly pretty hard to fuck up a Pokemon MMO, even if they had the same stability issues Go or SV has, they'd still make endlessly money.

Like it or not, Go was an absolutely pathetic barebones strip of a game on release and it's the most profitable video game in history. (Yes it's still shite to this day, don't waste your reeeeing) A Pokemon MMO would be an endless money printer regardless of quality.

I didn’t say it would be unsuccessful, I said it would suck. It would be a bad game despite high sales, like the Switch games all were. Game Freak could put out Pokémon: It actually murders your parents in real life version and it would sell to everyone.

Eh, I'd argue that it really depends on why you're getting into it.

As far as comptitive play goes, the meta is "semi-diverse" in the sense that a Tier 0 deck doesn't really exist in the current Standard format (the closest the TCG has seen to it are Mewtwo-EX/Energy accelerator decks, Arceus VSTAR/Flying Pikachu VMAX/Hisuian Decidueye VSTAR decks, and possibly Gardevoir ex decks). It also doesn't help that The Pokémon Trading Card Game Live, the current official way to play the TCG digitally, is a pile of white-hot garbage riddled with bugs.

Collecting modern cards is mixed. Most early SVI sets are VERY generous with their pull rates but once you get to Temporal Forces and later sets that generosity kind of fizzles out. Hell, Shrouded Fable is currently one of the worst modern sets to open right now due to a combination of factors (being special set confined to various products, pull rates on-par with post-TEF sets, QA issues involving the ETBs being delayed and some holos coming out of the pack with peel damage).

Don't forget that GO is kind of an MMO in spirit when you examine the gameplay.

Just when you thought Niantic was getting a little better, they decide to give everybody the middle finger just for trying to grind rocket fights.

Context:
So in Pokemon Go, you get to fight Team Rocket and their bosses for a shot at Shadow Pokemon. Shadow Pokemon take more damage, but hit harder than regular Pokemon. The catch is Shadow Pokemon have a shitty move called frustation, and you can only remove it during Team Rocket events. This weekend is a Team Rocket event where you'll see more Rockets in the game, but players trying to grind this event are getting banned just for grinding.

  1. You touch grass
  2. you look for and capture pokemon while touching grass
What's not to like about that?
Isn't the whole point of touching grass to get away from the screen? Like to each their own I guess but I find it kinda depressing that people feel the need to experience the world through a google map with a Pikachu model plastered in the middle.

I want you all to really understand this. Imagine being a Gamefreak dev working at the time. Their jobs got completely invalidated overnight.
It's not like Gamefreak devs ever did a good job in the first place, I hope they continue seething.

You'd think they would have learned from the random aspect of the USUM ultra wormhole minigame. I liked the idea of randomly generated areas with new pokemon unobtainable anywhere else. Yet nothing like it was ever present in the switch games or post-3DS mobile spinoffs.

Iwata's passing truly was the death of this franchise.

You know, this could have been a perfect opportunity for GameFreak/Nintendo to sit down and think about the direction of their company, figure out what's going wrong, how they can fix it, and do their best to give people what they want and to do just as good as, if not better than, the two guys that made a simple but brilliant concept.

But the fact they chose the "stomp your feet and make a tantrum" route really tells me all I need to know about current year Nintendo/GameFreak.
They'd become so wrapped up in believing their IPs are sacred cows that they freak out when anyone and anything makes something that would dare outshine the original company who made them....I mean they always had it but they seem to have this especially after the mid 00s. Might explain all the takedowns of fangames and music extensions/reuploads.

Also are hardcore about making sure their hardware is untamperable because they got a purist "do what I want you to do" attitude. They have become greedy in their own personal ego.

Over the years, I noticed that, whenever a surprisingly good fangame or hack becomes popular, tonnes of Pokéfans praise the fangame to exceptional heights. They go 'SEEEE?????? THIS IS HOW POKEƝO CAMES SOHULD BE!!!!! I HATE NINTENDO AND GAMEFROKA!!!! (Who is Creatures?) FGANS DO FPOKEMON WAY BETTERN THAN WHAT NINTENDO AND GAMEFRAEK DO!!!! NINTENDO AND GAMEFROK SHOULD JUST HAND OVER THE FANCHISE TO THE FANS INSTEAD OF TRYIVFG TO KILL ALL OF THOSE MODS BECAUSE THEY ARE YJALUSA AT HOW A FEW TRUE AND TONST FANS WORKING FROM THEIR BASEMENTS DHO WORKS OF WAAAAAAAAAAYP HIFGHRE QUALITY COMPARED TO THE SHLOP THAT A MULTI-BILLION DOLLAR COMPANY DOES!!!!!'
I mentally tuned ou thos exceptional takes, mainly because of how exceptional they are, but also because they come from a position where they have not worked at a multimillion dollar company, much less the astronomical Pokémon Comany; they do not know abou the inner workings and reasonings of the Pokémon Comany. However, the reveal about how the Pokémon Company purposefully tried to sabotage Pokémon Go i surprising.

I don't need to work at a multimillion dollar company to recognize when somebody's taken a giant Pikachu-shaped shit on my plate. It's none of my business how Game Freak or Pokemon Company operate, nor should it be. If the multimillion dollar company doesn't know how to properly organize itself to create their products at the best quality possible then that's their fucking problem to figure out, not mine. If you bought a brand new car and your engine exploded in the middle of the highway, would you sympathize with the multimillion dollar car company for trying their best to make your shitty car?

People praise fangames and romhacks to hell and back because at least some of them attempt to do something different with the series and succeed to a certain degree. Game Freak has barely done anything interesting with the series over the past decade and even when they want to do something ambitious like open world/open area their last two games have clearly demonstrated that they lack the knowledge and talent to make it work and people are right to criticize them for the terrible job they've done with the series. If you want to talk about exceptional takes, sympathizing with the plights of multimillion dollar corporations is probably the most retarded take you could possibly have, especially so with Pokemon.

That is jus that; not all of the fangames and hacks are good. They praise those that are actually high quality, but what gets pushed to the background is the many garbage games and hacks who think tha turning every Pokémon into a LV 100 Wonderguarded Spiritomb and saturating the game wit Hazbin Hotel-style 'profanity and whores' humour is the apex of quality. They do not even fail spectacularly the way Pokémon Dark Rising or at least are Crazy Enough to Work the way Pokémon Snakewood oes. Moreover, doing a free fangame or hack from your basement is one thing; actually managing a company requires tonnes of logistics: you need to take into account manufacturing, materials, law, finances, archival, human resources, relationships with customers, international considerations, cross-cultural considerations, LOTS of security (per wha the gigaleaks proved), and tonnes of managemen that holds and conducts together all of these different working parts. Just because Nintendo, Game Freak, Creatures, and the overall Pokémon Company are failing at a lot of these does not mean tha those who make the actually fabulous fangames and hacks would have the qualifications required in running any company, let alone one with extreme global impact and a strong established history.

Now that I mention things, are not rannies a big part of the hacking scene? Putting them in charge of the Pokémon Company would make the current Pokémon Company appear spick-and-span in comparison. Tranny narcissism would b enabled and emboldened extremely.

So what does this have to do with actually letting talented developers like Iwata do their fucking job and make a product worth buying and playing? Dipshit nepo hire managers pushing them out of companies or on the indie scene, Banning them from the discord server because the moderators are retards that just want to milk patreon paypigs and end up with a thread here like the majority of that platform's userbase, has nothing to do with marketing a game and distributing it to retailers.

Which most of the time is the publisher's and retailer's headaches and not the developers. Since a video game developer has nothing to do with the logistics of manufacturing and shipping physical copies of your game to the nearest stores via freight or cargo if its being sold internationally. Its also easier than ever to distribute a game thanks to digital storefronts like steam or the nintendo E shop being mainstream.

Sure they do make marketing material and things like E3 Presentations, but beyond that its ultimately up to publishers like Sony or Nintendo to market the game or if self publishing, themselves. Which most indies don't really do and end up either going to a publisher to do that for them, or take the money and run like steam early access is notorious for.

I’ve been playing some Pokémon rom hacks again. I‘m liking Radical Red so far. What are some good Rom hacks with all Pokémon up to gen 9 I might not have heard of? I prefer playing nuzlockes so preferably ones not too overly difficult like kaizo hacks.
Elite Redux doesn’t go all the way to gen 9, but has them all up to gen 8. Its main gimmick is that each mon has 3-4 abilities, which vastly opens up team building. The difficulty isn’t too bad; the game hands you a frankly disgusting amount of tools to make your team exactly how you want it so you can always match your opponents’ OP shit with your own. Nuzlocke isn’t built-in like it is for Radical Red but there’s no reason why you couldn’t just do it the old fashioned way.
