I also have that feeling, from what I've seen at least.
Super Mystery Dungeon and the DX remake feel like such a chore to play somehow, which the GBA-style MD games lack.

Everything else outside of that I enjoyed
ORAS has those features too.* Would've been better with the Emerald Battle Frontier and being able to re-challenge gym leaders though.

* (except that castle and character customizing)

It really cannot be understated how troons and other kinds of coomers ruin everything when it comes to a fan Discord.

Why? Because they actually tend to be the most entitled consumers you can imagine. The worst thing is they're like locusts: even if you bend over backwards for them they require constant affirmation and stimulation, so you never really get a break as a developer. If you do try to slow their bullshit down they just quit and move on to their next obsession.

The worst thing for free project developer morale is feeling underappreciated, and not catering to these types is the quickest way there.
I do not ge this. Would not slowing down troons and perverts to the point of they quitting improve a community? Also, would not avoiding catering to troons and perverts preven that feeling of underappreciation?

Many developers on these kinds of projects have poor social skills and a strong need for parasocial approval.

For those that do not, they often just want to grill code and often get proxies to handle the community stuff they rightly see as a headache, which allows for troon gatekeeping bullshit.

It's a very rare free project dev who is willing or able to dodge all of these pitfalls.

Do you have a source for this? Genuinely curious.
Pokemon does not like swears or rude words in their games.
Same. For me it was the story. I was just completely checked out. That, and you really don't get much of a challenge till the elite fout and post game.

Everything else outside of that I enjoyed
  • Super Training
  • Friend Safari
  • Battle Maison
  • Battle Chateau
  • Mega Evolutions
  • The Fairy Type
  • Character Customization
  • Inverse Battles
i mean enjoying everything else put into the game that you only really do post game and therefore after the game is done catering to children that like saturday morning anime makes it a pretty good game.

Pokemon Games aren’t meant to be this huge challenge or overally complex

The main story in XY was kind of whatever (I personally think it was held back by the fact that Lysandre was kind of right, but it's not politically correct in a kids game, so they couldn't really do anything with it), but I was always drawn in my the other mysteries they seemed to be building up, whether they were for an originally planned Z version or completely scrapped or what. The sundial and it's connection to mega evolution and Diancie, the unvisitable power plants and their possible connection to Volcanion, the weird note in the Lumiose train station, someone in Anistar talking about how some other group had been asking about the legendary Pokemon years ago... unfortunately if ZA tries to answer any of those questions it'll almost certainly be lore-ruining retarded-ass dogshit with a side dish of being weirdly meanspirited. I hate the Ohmorichrist. Kieran did nothing wrong.

Do you remember that Pokemon 1.5 hack that undoes the changes done by the Pokémon SpaceGold hack?
I found a couple of more glitches.

Tyrogue i supposed to try to evolve into Hitmonchan, Hitmonlee, and Hitmontop, one after another, after he reaches LV 15, regardless of stats. You are supposed to press B once if you want Hitmonlee or press B twice if you want Hitmontop. However, pressing B simply cancels ALL evolution, which makes Hitmonlee and Hitmontop impossible. I simply commented ou the branches to Hitmonchan d Hitmonlee, bu that is definitely a private workaround.
Another is that I cannot access Wind Ride, the replacement o Fly, in the menu. The problem was tha the hacker failed to modify data/mon_menu.asm wi the names of the replacements. The hacker clearly missed this because Fly/Wind Ride is the only HM that requires use from the menu; the rest can be used from the field.

Doesn't help that SMD (also what that game tells you when playing it, sometimes) has some brutal boss hurdles in the story. Also, the friending system in that game feels like a clapback at all the heat they rightfully got for giving players a barebones list of recruitables.

Loudly declaring Hitler ws right in a mainstream game for a mainstream audiance wouldn’t go over well you’re right

Which is why you had AZ. The dude that did everything Lysandre did only to realise he was wrong call out Lysandre as dumb. And everyone else called him out as dumb. And then the only reason he goes through with his plans is when he gives you the option to stop him the zelots in his org go ‘yeah, we know what he saud but no’ and he just shrugs and goes ‘they forced my hand, might as well’

XY’s plot in the games is a trip when you really get down to it.

I’m still amazed the plot was even greenlit. Because of how close it comes to several characters wanting to go Hitler Has A Point.

The Holocaster was not exactly subtle.

Replaying Heartgold for the first time in over a decade. Got up to 7 badges already and I'm really fucking hating all the roadblocks they keep putting in the players path to pad out playtime that aren't something to find a path around like using the pokegear radio for the snorlax in kanto.

Just went through the last several gyms back to back and then they just put a guy in the way telling you to go explore johto more. when I already caught the Red Gyarados, went to the safari zone, destroyed the Rocket hideout in that town, and am having fun with an Ampharos with Thunder + Charge and a tank of a Meganium that can spam synthesis and use poisonpowder. Though Johto feels kind of hollow and empty compared to Sinnoh in Gen 4 and HGSS is not as good as I remembered because of shit like that.

Remember as a kid having to do some glitch fuckery to get to the last gym in Johto because of the random roadblocks on both routes up there like this but I guess three level 40 pokemon aren't really enough to take on the E4 at this point.
The O.G. Gold/Silver games had those same roadblocks too. You couldn't do shit after Red Gyrados until you took care of Team Rocket. I think you were able to face Pryce at the gym after the basement hideout and then you had to go to the radio tower.

Also yea, your pokemon have to be at LEAST lv55-60 because Lance will just steamroll you. Hell, you'd be lucky if the other E4 members didn't 1 shot your pokemon at that point. It's practically why I solo it with 1 pokemon until post game.

That username at the top of the score board, fuckin' got 'em. :story:

The fact that the community hates roadblocks but insist HG/SS is the gold standard will always amuse.

I remember ORAS got shit on for that.

It helps that speedrunning G/S HG/SS is easy. Almost feels like your incentivised to stick with just one mon.

I went fine with LV 40. Then again, that was OG...

That was what I had to do. Another shopping trip to goldenrod and suddenly a billion team rocket guys are everywhere and the rival shows up to ruin the disguise. Also caught a shiny Ho-oh by throwing a master ball at it and gave my Amphardos an amulet coin so I don't have any pokedollar problems anymore after buying 10 hyper potions at a time.

It definitely feels that buff move + any damage move is the play here when I keep catching buff move + synergy damage move for most pokemon somehow. It will never not be funny when the game claims a Thunder + 1-2 charges is “not very effective” when I KO just about every pokemon from full health that isn't immune to the damage type.

I’ve been having good luck with meganium/amphardos/sandslash so far all in the lower-mid level 40’s.
Got to the point where I have a good amount of elixirs saved up for the E4 too and left off at the start of victory road.

Thunder + 1-2 charges
It doubles the damage of the next electric type move you use smart one.
The special defense buff also helps.

Firstly, why would you use charge twice. They don't stack. You HAVE to use an electric damage dealing move on the turn after charge for it to work. You're just raising your special defense an extra stage that you'd probably be better of attacking.

Secondly, using charge before Thunder means you risk wasting your charge turn AND your Thunder turn because of Thunder's shit accuracy. It's more risky than just using Thunder twice unless you're being autistic about preserving power points. Missing twice is a 9% chance, but using charge and missing is a 30% chance.

Did Arceus not sell well? Nintendo just reposted an article about it on the Switch News Channel "just in case you missed it the first time"
Their lamestream pokemon games always do better. Both Swsh and SV made great sales numbers despite being how they are.
