apparently the main storyline for the teal mask is a fucking fetch quest
the loyal three steal ogerpon's masks and you have to go find them again
I'm not kidding
god this is so fucking low-effort all I can do is laugh :story: :story: :story:

^ actual spoilers btw, for kitakami plot
If I’d actually paid for the DLC rather than a relative giving me one of those Code Cards for it as a gift, I’d be significantly more annoyed by that. The joys of “It’s Free so my Expectations are at Rock Bottom”. As is, a friend and I are just shitting on it while I play through, which is honestly more entertaining. Obligatory Welcome to the Rice Fields included.

Also, mildly unrelated, but I haven’t seen anyone bring it up in Thread - there’s a Mystery Gift Code for a Mew. The code is literally GETY0URMEW (0, not O). Which you might want the Mew, because we also have a 7 Star Mewtwo Raid, in which Mew gets a massive stat buff to make up for Mewtwo shielding immediately at the start, spamming Calm Mind, then using Rest (while holding a Chesto Berry) once you break his Shield. Least Randoms figured this shit out…

And I completed The Teal Mask, here's what I observed during the story (I'll put it behind spoilers for those that want to go in blind)...
  • Carmine and Kieran, the two Blueberry Academy students and Kitakami natives, start out on opposite ends of a single character arc and end up at or very near the end of the other. Carmine starts out as a nasty bitch (she callsyou an "outsider" when you first meet her) at the start of the tory and slowly warms up to you as the story flows while Kieran begins a shy, meek kid when you meet him but slowly starts to get more bitter towards you as you get closer and friendlier towards Ogerpon.
  • Briar is largely absent from the story outside of a bit of lore-dumping at the very beginning and helping set up the second-half of the DLC at the very end of the story.
  • Perrin is pretty much tied to the Ursaluna side-quest and that doesn't open up until you register 150 Pokémon in the Kitakami Pokédex, you can even skip her completely if you want to. The only thing of note is that she has a Hisuian Growlithe with her and that kind of kills the "theory" of Hisuian Pokémon going extinct between PLA and SV.
  • Following the bullying themes in Starfall Street and the parental abandonment stuff present in both the Path of Legends and The Way Home storylines The Teal Mask covers a heavy topic here, in this is case it's xenophobia and othering.
I honestly liked the Ogre Oustin' mini game even though I only did the "tutorial" level, it's simple at first but it gets harder as you get into other levels.

The size of the map is smaller than Paldea's but that's not necessarily a bad thing, it's easier to track down Pokémon and outside of the Chilling Waterhead you can't really get lost. I wouldn't be surprised if the The Indigo Disk's Terarium follows this pattern.

You forced to catch Ogerpon during the story, specifically after you beat the now-Titanic Loyal Three for the three remaining masks and fight all four of Ogerpon's Terastillized forms. The Loyal Three can be encountered and caught in the post-game the same way Titan Pokemon are in the base game. Oh, and The Loyal Three are male-only whilst Ogerpon is female-only.

White-Striped Basculin can only be found in the Timeless Woods (which you can access without doing the Ursaluna side-quest) and you can get a Hisuian Growlithe by completing the Ursaluna side-quest. IFAIK no other Hisuian Pokémon other than those two and Ursaluna are available.

Outside of the Hisuian Growlithe there are two other gift Pokémon. You can get a randomized Sinnoh starter from an Egg that Jacq gives you while you can get a Shiny Munchlax (it comes with its HA, the Crafty Mark, and is the largest size possible) when you complete Ogre Oustin’ at its hardest difficulty.

Transferring the Pokémon found in the Kitakami Pokédex from other games via HOME works but you need the exact forms found in region itself in order for them to register. For example: if you transfer a Kantonian Sandshrew over but transfer an Alolan Sandslash only the Sandshrew will be registered. This also means you can't register Ursaluna by transferring one caught in PLA.

EDIT: I added a little tidbit to the gameplay section after I transferred some Pokemon from HOME. and noticed something.
How did they make the performance worse
I assume it has something to do with loading assets, there are times when the game will freeze for a brief second or two and my heart will skip a beat since it occasionally leads to the game crapping out.
I don't give a FUCK about doomposting, let's post some jams

I still find myself watching the trailers that was put out for Sun & Moon back in 2016, the track they used in it is such a bop and it's fucking criminal that it's never been officially released.

It’s something I brought up but didn’t really go into details on account of the information being easy to search out. As far as the Chesto-Rest combo goes most players either run Misty Terrain or Electric Terrain (the former is preferred due to it also blocking Ice Beam’s Freeze chance in addition to blocking Sleep). I’d do it again but after checking the base item drops and the item drops I don’t really see a point in doing so. It’s also worth noting that ANY Mew can get the raid boost and will obtain the Mightiest Mark upon completing the raid.

A friend of mine texted me about the new Pokémon TCG promotion they‘re doing at McDonald’s and they asked me if I’m gonna go in on it.

I’ve done some of the past promos but I’m kind of torn on this one, all of the cards are from Scarlet & Violet (with Pikachu coming from Paldea Evolved) and I doubt they’ll be scalped to hell and back.

But then again, I just saw what the holos look like (on PokéBeach, the pic can be seen below) and my interest keeps coming back. I like the confetti holo that they come in and since they‘re from SV-era sets that means the holo effect is also on the card border.

...even Fezandipiti?

If so, my comment about some new Pokémon only being made for coomers from earlier has aged better than I ever expected it to. (:_(
Yep, it’s male-only too.

double-posting for some news

GameFreak left in placeholders for the Indigo Disk when releasing their patch for the Teal Mask. Baffles me how they still haven't learned better after the disaster that was SM's demo; maybe it's some weird stealth marketing thing. That aside-

The data hints towards- at minimum-
• 4 new abilities,
• 76 new items (seem to be mostly TM materials),
• 15 new moves,
• 8 new species.
If that last part is true, then it means GF have officially revealed about half of the new mon for Indigo Disk already.

Archaludon, Raging Bolt, Iron Crown, and Terapagos take up half those slots...

Going off of GF's retarded insistence on signature abilities regarding new mon, I think there'll be 3 new families of mon. Seeing as both Paradoxes already have abilities shoed-in and Archaludon will likely just keep Duraludon's (since it's not a new form like BM-Ursaluna), alongside Terapagos absolutely having some kind of signature if only for being the flagship Legendary, I think there'll be another convergent of some kind (with its matching evo) and then another cross-gen evo or new form. I highly doubt there will actually be many new mon outside of evolutions or other ties to existing families considering the environment and location.

It's also worth noting that Blueberry Academy has been explicitly stated to reside within Unova (which explains the black Professor lmfao), so I think most of the new mon will focus on being from there.
A decent amount of stuff is pointing to building hype around Unova specifically and it's just disheartening lol. Yaaayyy, another terrible terrible remake is on the way, can't wait to have another old game spat on for sales yet again...

Yeah… about that species bit…

It’s very likely that Dipplin’s getting it, Kaphotics says that the game data for Dipplin has a defined evolution and it’s been discovered that Eviolite works on it. After that you have to add in Paradox Entei And Paradox Terrakion to complete the trios that Walking Wake and Iron Leaves started. And finally it’s rumored that the final Pokémon in the DLC is based off of Momotaro.

As far as Abilities are concerned it’s been confirmed that Archaludon has Stamina and Sturdy as its two normal Abilities on the official site while its Hidden Ability being unknown as of this writing, Paradox Entei and Terrakion will more than likely have their respective Paradox ’mon Abilities and have no other Ability, Terapagos‘s Ability/Abilities being unknown and said Pokémon possibly having a similar Ability gimmick that Ogerpon has, and the rumored Momotaro Pokémon would have a new Ability (with the possibility of its HA also being new).

Definitely minimum... I say that one of those slots i Small Terapagos. Tw of those are definitely Future Terrakion and Past Entei.
Tw other slots... I have two possibilities. One would be those fusions of the Future Musketeers and Past Legendary Beasts. Another would be a Future Keldeo and a Pas Tenshou (my nickname of that design exercise) or something.

Right, cleared all the Teal Mask bullshit. It’s… alright. Passable enough, but I had incredibly low expectations. I feel like if I hadn’t brought in my actually built Skeledirge, it might’ve actually required some effort, but even then not that much. Some technical fuckery and stutters when the game was trying to load things, ymmv if it’s better or worse than at launch.

The biggest upside is that the autists that make up the player base made Trade Codes specifically for the Trade Evolutions and Exclusives. Close seconds are the Sinnoh Starter Egg that from the looks of it is whatever starter would have type advantage over yours (would probably feel better if I got that early game, assuming that Levels here scaled with Main Story progress, but a free Piplup is a free Piplup), and getting a Hisuian Growlithe as a Sidequest Reward - I have my soft spots.

I’d give it a Meh. It’s about what you’d expect from Gamefreak at this point. Colisseum and XD remakes/remasters when you cowards.

Also Jesus fuck Bloodmoon Ursaluna is hilariously overtuned, Smogon nerds have fun with that one

It appears that, in addition to the Ability/attack/item/Pokemon species text data that was discovered two days ago, we have habitat data that basically spoils the entire Blueberry Academy Pokedex.
IMG_2047.jpeg
Do take note that this doesn’t include Pokemon only found in the text data (Pokémon species numbered 1013 and 1017-1023) and Pokêmon that don’t have Dex entries like returning Legendaries.
I feel like if I hadn’t brought in my actually built Skeledirge, it might’ve actually required some effort, but even then not that much.
That's pretty much what I'm hearing from people on Twitter, they're basically suggesting that you should bring in a new team if you've already completed the base game.
Some technical fuckery and stutters when the game was trying to load things, ymmv if it’s better or worse than at launch.
The technical side of Pokémon Twitter did some testing and it's apparently worse, if you date-skip (in order to refresh raid and outbreaks) for 30 minutes or more the framerate takes a nosedive and the game still crashes if you walk in and out of "gated" spaces like the labs in Area Zero for too long. I've also personally noticed that the game's been crapping out more often than it used to in general.

Eh, the trade evolutions can be obtained in 5-star and 6-star raids (Trevenant can also be found in the Timeless Woods, Kitakami Wilds, and as a fixed spawn at the Crystal Pool) while the version exclusives can be obtained via online raids with enough persistence. I do concede that they can be good if tradebacks (in order to evolve any Shiny Pokémon) are allowed.
I’d give it a Meh. It’s about what you’d expect from Gamefreak at this point.
I can agree with that, it was kind of the same story with SWSH’s DLC: a mid-tier Part 1 DLC and hopefully an acceptable-to-good-tier Part 2.
Colisseum and XD remakes/remasters when you cowards.
I mentioned it earlier but Colosseum/XD remakes are out of the question for multiple reasons (the big two being the “death” of Genius Sonority and main line games having reached Stadium/2/Colosseum/XD/Battle Revolution’s “Pokémon battles in a 3D space” gimmick and main selling point back in Gen 6).

>my BW bros Zebstrika, Scrafty and Reuniclus are in
Dex is officially SAVED
also lol @ Alomomola being included for some reason

Spoiler: The leak in question
indigo_disk_wild_pokedex_breakdown.png
I now see why they had to advertise all the starters returning
EDITING IN SOME NUMBERS FOR THE VISUALLY-IMPAIRED:
  • 105 families included (single-stages counted as "families")
  • of these, 24 are starters (approx. 1/4 of the dex)
  • 46 can be achieved through regular, non-DLC gameplay (includes 7-star raid events and previously-mentioned starters; approx. half the dex)
  • 12 can be achieved through HOME transfer (includes Hisuian Braviary, Kantonian Tauros)
  • 7 were already re-added in Teal Mask
  • 38 families are "truly returning", excluding starters, having shown up nowhere else in the game in any form (only about 1/3 of the dex)
  • including starters, this number goes up to 49
  • 14 of these "truly returning" families are from Kanto (includes the two starters), 8 are from Unova.
seeing as this excludes legendaries these numbers will obviously go up later, but for now these are the stats

I have to admit, the concept of sort of "cryptid" Pokémon is kind of neat on paper. But since Pokémon can basically come in any shape or form, it'd be hard to make a cryptid one feel out of place aside from going totally alien like the Ultra Beasts, and even some of them just felt like Pokémon. Also catching the "cryptid" and then taking selfies with it and taking it on picnics would ruin its atmosphere.

rip "hysterical" post
TL;DRing it because I can't remember the whole thing:
  • it's hardly even been 4 days (since its release at time of writing) and Serebii is already out of things to cover (after he was already scrambling for anything major on day 3); your $35 at work ladies and gentlemen
  • you can change the menu borders on the game's UI to always be Paldea's/Kitakami's, but only if you talk to a very specific NPC in the Community Center of the Kitakami region. Laughed my ass off because to me it's even worse than the retarded earbuds in SwSh where you had to speak to a completely random dude an hour into the game to unlock the sound options in your options menu.
  • 40+ returning Pokémon had their battle idles plopped into the water instead of being given either that butt-ugly floatie that non-swimming mon use or actual new swimming animations (one of these mon was Milotic, which made me sad because it was already done so dirty in BDSP). Distribution of the new swimming animations is also very haphazard- as an example, Slowpoke doesn't swim but Slowbro + Slowking do.
  • patch 2.0.1 added different borders in the Rotom Phone menus based on which phone case you had, which I enjoyed but bemoaned for so obviously being content that was cut from the base game either due to being unfinished or to be used as update fodder. Some of my favorite cases at the time were the Scarlet/Violet Book borders and the BDSP-exclusive Poketch skin.
  • After I made the post, Ramotith argued that Slowpoke having its battle idle plopped in the water was in-character, to which I agreed but stated that it didn't matter because I still found it lazy and the rest of the mon that were plopped into the water had no excuse.
