found my first shiny in pokemon scarlet

...and it's a fucking lechonk. it's pink. and female. this actually matters in terms of ability because male and female lechonk have different abilities. of course that would imply anyone would use lechonk in the first place.
Mine was a Veluza while going through the story. Not bad but after going in blind and then realizing how limited it is in terms of stats (and didn't have its HA at the time) it really sucked some of the air out of the find. I don't get how they justify its overworld behavior when they stick it with speed lower than a literal ice whale.

Two questions for this thread, When was the last good mainline Pokémon game? And when was the last time it seem like GameFreak at least tried to make a good Pokémon game (it does not have to be good it just needs feel like they at least put effort into it)?
I feel like Pokemon Black/White and their sequels were the last time I TRULY enjoyed a new Pokemon game. I played X and Y, but was underwhelmed even if roller blading at break neck speeds felt satisfying and there was some fun to be had. I started Sun/Moon, but made it past picking my Pokemon and just kinda set it down, never to pick it up again. I don't know what really turned me off, I just sort of didn't care like all my hype had been utterly crushed by the opening segment.

Right now I'm emulating Emerald on my phone and having a blast repeatedly losing my Nuzlocke challenge (I'll fucking murder you NORMAN!!!!). I haven't played Legends Arceus, but I'm considering it if I can find it on sale.

Legends Arceus is 100% worth it if you find it on sale! Fingers crossed for you since Nintendo games are pretty notorious for not going on sale. I do think if you have a WalMart in your area they do sell their games $10 less than retail for whatever reason.

It appears that The Act Man, the same one who checks notes tried to cancel some skitzo nigger is the next in line in "prolific million sub gaming channels" to complain about the state of Scarlet and Violet quite some time after it was cool to do so.

"WTH WITH THESE GLITCHES"

I dunno faggot what about them? Have you seen how the pokemon community has received these games? They are the biggest critics of Sword and Shield so I think that'd be important.

Do you perhaps need me to compensate for a disability like dyslexia or irlen syndrome that would help with your reading comprehension to help you understand the whole post rather than fixating on one word? I can happily change the color or font for you.

Bringing back options and features from earlier games and adding voice acting is not going to cripple the game, now that I'm thinking about it I wish they'd bring back L=A as well which is another accessibility feature for people with only one hand. I don't specifically know God of War but I'm generally pro-accessibility *options*, particularly subtitles and screen readers. I'm sorry the existence of menus you can completely ignore offends you so much.
You ca actually set up L=A in the Switch accessibility settings. Only for Joy Cons and Pro Controllers though, but it's better than nothing and more flexible than a single option in a single game.
Not a huge Pokemon fan but this thread has caught my curiosity. The state of current year Pokémon games seem baffling to me. Two questions for this thread, When was the last good mainline Pokémon game? And when was the last time it seem like GameFreak at least tried to make a good Pokémon game (it does not have to be good it just needs feel like they at least put effort into it)?
Last good mainline for me is now Scarlet and Violet. Cool legendries, three good story arcs compared to Gens 6-8, more good new Pokemon than bad new Pokemon, and the world felt very alive. First Gym battle against the Bug woman and a random rain shower comes through and saves her from my Fuecoco.

The final story battle with Nemona when she gets to go all out was my favorite in a long time, Arven's and Penny's stories were great, then you have the "post-game" chapter to tie it all together. Outside the technical problems, which I didn't encounter many personally because I knew to reset the game occasionally, it was the best Pokemon game since at least Gen 5 for me. Since Legends: Arceus was developed parallel to SV, I assume a lot of Legends' improvements will make it into Gen 10, like catching Pokemon outside battle, mass release, and maybe Frotbite as a status instead of Freeze.

This is all without even touching on comp, where they drastically reigned in the power level by not having transfer moves. Powerful moves are now rarer, which has let unconventional Pokemon like Murkrow thrive.

Finally finished collecting one shiny of every Fairy Type for my battle box (fully evolved anyway, almost every NFE Pokemon is too niche even for me). Just some notes for anyone trying for these Pokemon. Fairy sandwiches are obligatory unless stated otherwise.

-Iron Valiant/ Scream Tail/ Flutter Mane:
No advice needed, all easy. I have Violet, but I would imagine a Psychic sandwich would be better for Scream Tail, and I know Flutter Mane can easily be exploited with a Ghost sandwich during the day. Valiant is pretty straight forward since it only spawns in one location anyway.

-Florges:
Extremely rare spawn already, and Floette is too damn small in it's spawn areas full of colorful flowers to reliably see (found mine by complete accident way earlier in the game). Masuda this one unless you want to drive yourself insane with the sandwich.

-Mimikyu/Grimsnarl:
Found in the same area (Tagtree Thicket). Impidimp/Morgrem is easy to spot because it's a wildly different color to it's regular variant, Mimikyu is a different story. I recommend trying for Mimikyu at night as the muted yellow and the red cheeks of the normal one stand out much better in the darkness, while the shiny will look almost white. I found mine during the day, but it's one of the few times I would say my experience as a pixel artist came in handy, the normal and the shiny almost look the exact same with the daytime lighting, the shiny is just a nut hair brighter. Masuda may be the better option.

-Wigglytuff/Tinkaton:
North Province Area One. North east corner where the cliff side meets with the unclimbable mountain. May get a wall spawn, but it's a good secluded area to force spawn a ton of both families.

-Gardevoir:
DAYTIME ONLY
Take the south exit out of Montenevera, cross the bridge, and continue up the path until you reach the flat area with a single tree. This area will spawn 3 Gardevoir with 4 Ralts following every time you move into the loading area. The path that continues up the mountain has no spawns until much farther up, simply go up and down this sections while watching the flat area to make sure you're going far enough to despawn. I've used this spot multiple times and never seen a Gardevoir actually pop shiny, it's always the Ralts, so you definitely want to keep more attention on them.

-Hatterene/Daschbun/Azumarill:
Neither is really difficult, doggo does have some type overlap at most of it's spawn points though. Easy enough to spot however.

-Sylveon:
Don't even bother trying to sandwich hunt the Eeveelutions. They all have type overlap with atleast 2 Pokemon in their spawn areas, and even with sandwich buffs, they're still pretty infrequent to even get to spawn. Just Masuda.

-Klefki:
Shares the issue with Floette of just being unreasonable to actually spot in the overworld. Used a Steel sandwich around Alfornada 5-6 times and couldn't spot one at all (probably missed one everytime too). I'd say Masuda this one, but it's not impossible to do with a sandwich, you're just going to be at it forever. I got lucky and hatched one after about 15 eggs... Though it's kind of hard to call it luck when I had been trying for several hours previously, I think the game was just taking pity on me.

-Dedenne:
Another small one, but the color difference is very pronounced. Electric sandwich. Don't bother searching around Medali, too many Voltorbs for it to compete with. North Province Area Three. Hug the western cliff side (don't climb it) and move back and forth between the cliff and rock formation that's close to the beach (it's on grass, not sand). This area will spawn only Dedenne (and occasional things on the rock formation where the sand and grass meet as it's a different type of spawn point) so long as you don't move too far forward towards the beach. If you go too far forward towards the beach, you'll spawn the Pawmi and Wattrel line. This indicator is very helpful for learning the boundaries of this particular spawn point.

Pop quiz!

1. How many Pokedex entries can you fill in Pokemon Scarlet before acquiring Koraidon as a Ride Pokemon?

2. How many Pokemon can you assemble for a Living Dex in Pokemon Scarlet before acquiring Koraidon as a Ride Pokemon?

Answers:

1. 347

2. 345

I'm actually at the point of my playthrough where I'm closing in on these numbers and can actually count them out. Specifically, I just need level-up evolutions now. Gods, grant me patience when I start to level my Larvesta and Deinos.

Fun facts about the limitations you set on yourself by breaking out of the tutorial early to explore the whole of Paldea:

It's always day time locking you out of Drifloon, Drifblim, Murkrow, Honchkrow, Shuppet, Banette and Umbreon.

The weather does not change locking you out of Goodra.

You cannot catch Orthworm until you defeat the Orthworm Titan which only activates when the Great Treasure Hunt begins.

You cannot breed additional starters for your Living Dex until you unlock picnicking which is only unlocked when the Great Treasure Hunt begins.

Trade evolutions (not counting the Levincia Gengar) as well as Violet exclusive Pokemon are locked off as you don't unlock multiplayer until the Great Treasure Hunt begins.

The legendary Pokemon are not acquirable as each one has stakes out of reach (in the case of Chi-Yu, even the sealed door is out of reach) without a semi-upgraded Koraidon. You would need Swimming and Climbing at minimum to acquire all four of them.

Despite all of those limitations, you can acquire nearly 7/8ths of the entire Paldean Pokedex before even riding on Koraidon.

So what you're saying is you're actually doing Professor Oak's challenge in Paldea?

Oh? That's a thing? I suppose so!
Well, I was joking about it as a meme in some other chats.
If anyone doesn't know what a Professor Oak challenge is, it's maximum dex with minimum badges. You have to get every single possible pokemon, including evolutions, that you can get with 0 badges before you acquire your first badge, then the maximum you can get with 1 badge before you acquire 2, and so on. Depending on the game, you can get stupid amounts of pokemon with only one or two badges, and you may have to make strange routing choices to unlock better hms early and so on. For example, in kanto-based games, your third gym leader is Koga, because he unlocks surf.

...It's not generally a hard challenge, because, y'know, if you have to get a venusaur before your first gym, you're gonna have an easy time of it.

I guess my run for this game is a little more extreme then. Not only did I collect all these Pokemon without a single badge, I collected them all without what is essentially a free bike you get as soon as the game starts in a more limited gamestate. I looked at a subreddit for Professor Oak's Challenge and at a glance, no one has mentioned gathering their Pokemon prior to going to school.

Instead of "Professor Oak's Challenge," I've just been calling my run "Hooky Percent." I may continue this run then as a normal Oak's Challenge once I finish with my level-up evolutions but I do have one other nutty thing I want to do.

So, Pickup in this generation has a 1% chance of gathering free Bottlecaps if your Pickup Pokemon is level 71+. There's also a 4% chance of getting Rare Candies at that level range so it would be a neat way of leveling and evolving those harder Pokemon like Zweilous, Hydreigon, and Volcarona. I kinda want to fully hyper train my team because level 67+ Pokemon doesn't dunk on Arven's Level 5 Skwovet hard enough. Seriously, fuck Skwovet. I hate that squirrelly bastard.

I've enjoyed SV. The final act was a pleasant surprise and felt like it belonged in a more intense JRPG, which was a refreshing change of pace for a Pokemon game. We've had all sorts of dark storylines but I think this one was unique. All the post-game stuff felt really nice too.

The characters for the most part felt really well rounded, everyone had an arc that went somewhere with the exception of Nemona, but I have a feeling we'll see more of her story in the DLC.

I just gotta wonder why everyone hates Geeta so much in game. Everyone was talking mad shit during the second run through the gyms.

Her team being disappointing, as a Champion, was the big reason why people dislike her. Having a Gogoat on your team, and waiting to send Glimmora (her ace Pokémon) last, wasting the opportunity to set up hazards early, was not good, and Glimmora wasn't as much of a standout Pokémon compared to other champions's signature aces, i.e. Cynthia's Garchomp, Steven's Metagross (which can Mega Evolve in ORAS), Alder's Volcarona (and the backstory behind it), heck even Leon's G-Max Charizard and Diantha's Mega Gardevoir were more memorable, even if people were sick of Leon saying UNBEATABLE, UNDEFEATED, CHAMPION, or CHARIZARD, and Diantha as a character being forgettable.

I had wondered if the Gogoat was a deliberate "yeah I'm going easy on you kiddo" but that doesnt fit with her literal "I can never go easy" schtick prior.

But then again, the real champ battle was with Nemona anyway so. And that maniac actually used Lycanroc to setup stealth rock turn 1 too fffff.

I would like to think maybe her team was made intentionally bad and we’ll get a reveal in the DLC that provides some reasoning behind it because the pieces are there (Paldea’s gym leaders can’t stand her, is using a Pokémon that can only be found in Area Zero with no reference as to where her Glimmora was obtained) but as it stands she’s the worst champion out of the franchise.
Greeta/history teacher villain reveal could be fun lol

so i caught my second shiny in scarlet

it's a fucking yungoos. my disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined.

Any kiwis with Scarlet wanna trade paradox pokemon? I need basically all of them other than Roaring Moon.
