Anyone else get some creepy yandere vibes from that girl with the green hair highlight in SV?

The first chance I got to run away at the lighthouse ended with her shouting that she could see me down there and my character’s pupils shrinking with an expression that I should call for help.
Then I stopped playing because there are more forced cutscenes and invisible walls in that one section of the game than in even half of Sun/Moon.

Anyone else get a Mew back when Gen 1 was new?

I went to this giveaway thing at a mall where you'd put your cartridge in this machine that would transfer a Mew, and you'd get a printed "Certificate of Authenticity". IIRC the OT of mine is "LINKW", and I think this was around the time the first movie was out. Of course since then they did wireless transfer at places like GameStop or Toys R Us. Nowadays it's probably some internet thing.

(BTW the moveset I settled on was Psychic, Softboiled, Ice Beam, and Earthquake, IIRC.)

I've seen a few fanarts depicting her as such. She's much more exaggerated (or 'neurodiverse' per Twitter) than the previous rivals.

I did. I remember we got there before the mall had opened and we were all waiting at one of the entrances, than someone found a service entrance and everyone ran inside and through the back halls to get to where the setup was early. I think I was like 12th in line or less to get it on Yellow.

One of the people working on Ryujinx (a Nintendo Switch emulator) talks about recent Pokemon games having so many technical issues that people using the emulator wrongly assume that the emulator is causing them:

Having just completed PLA on Yuzu I 100% feel this. Small indie dev preez understand.

Is there a guide for building a good mon for farming raids? I’m tired of losing because Timmy has to use Charizard against a water terra type.
That being said I know of IVs and EVs but not how to get/use them, so if those are involved please explain like I’m three.

Would this be a good game to get into competitive Pokémon? I’ve always wanted to get into competitive play but the math involved always scared me.

It's the best game to get into competitive because it's the current one. Also, there have been a ton of changes to available mons and their movesets. Terastillization is also a huge mixup that certainly has not solidified into a consistent meta yet. Not to mention that it's easier than ever to breed Pokemon if you're a sperg about legit mons (I'm guilty)

The quick run-down on IVs and EVs is that Pokemon are born with IVs (genetics) and they earn EVs. Any given stat on any given Pokemon can have a number of IVs from 0 to 31. They are born with these and the only way to change it is to trade a bottle cap for hyper training. This can be bred for.

EVs are earned every time your Pokemon gains experience in a battle, even if it's not involved. This is not updated for Gen 9 but it's a good start and otherwise I would use serebii to look up mons you think are associated with a certain stat. Pokemon give certain EVs when you defeat them and a Pokemon can earn up to 252 for any one given stat, can max two this way, and then trickle a few leftover points to a third stat. Or you can split their 510 possible EVs any retarded way you want.

Breed for IVs, kill for EVs. EVs can also be erased with certain berries and raised by vitamins or feathers.

To be fair, developers don't even consider concepts like Game Optimization or proper level instancing anymore. The main excuse is "muh bettur hardwere" with the false assumption that the end user is at least running the equivalent of a 2080.

Thank you, this is really helpful! For raids do Athena EVs and IVs matter or would any Azumaril work?

I understand you can build a Pokémon any way you want but is it better to boost the two best stats a Pokémon already has or would it be better to boost its weaker stats? For example making a really fast high HP Jolteon vs making a higher defense Attack focused Jolteon?

Can you change the stats through vitamins, feathers, berries, etc enough that you can just farm those items to build the ‘perfect’ Pokémon? Or is there always an element of grinding for EVs?

I’m going to have to do some reading up on all of this, thank god for fellow Pokéautists and Serebii.

You can hyper train IVs vs constant breeding. You can also use an item 'Mirror Leaf' (iirc) during picnic sessions to pass on a move that would normally be done through egg moves.

Not precisely their best stats, it depends on what you want to avoid or achieve. Usually Jolteon won't be taking many hits so you're better focusing on Speed and making sure he hits as hard as possible. Now if you want that Jolteon to survive something in specific as to be more specialized you can invest on defenses or HP but you'd have to have a very specific reason to do so.

It depends on your preference and the situation. I once had a somewhat speed-focused Mimikyu that managed outspeed one of my opponents mons. Left that man baffled afterward.

Must have been fun. A Mimikyu made to outspeed something that's not expected can throw the whole team out of whack.

Thank you all for the help, I really appreciate it. I’m actually surprised at how nuanced the competitive side of the game is. I’m not expecting to go pro or anything but it’s nice to not be a complete idiot at competitive battles.
