Pokémon World Championship livestreams are up on Twitch and the main site, use the schedule here to tune in on sections you want to watch. It’s also been announced that the TCG and Scarlet/Violet reveals will be shown during the closing ceremony on Sunday.

Also, the code for Victini was revealed a little while ago. It’s W0RLD22V1CT0RY and is valid until Sunday at 23:59 UTC. Here’s some general info (Serebii got the Ribbon wrong, it’s actually has the Souvenir Ribbon and not the Classic Ribbon seen here).

Oh, and I don’t know if it’s true for everyone but the one I got has flawless IVs.

EDIT: The code for the SR Path to the Peak was revealed: Worlds22London and it has a 100k limit with the code still being valid as of ~50 minutes ago.

I mean, at least Nature Mints now exist so you can fix them for events that have a pre-set one(like how Eruption Heatran from the Pokemon Ranger games used to be locked to a Quiet nature but now you can make it the ideal nature of Timid)

I remember that Entei had the same problem: it really wants a Jolly nature to try and keep up with speed creep, but it's HGSS event with Extreme Speed was locked to Adamant. Luckily Gen 8 added both Nature Mints for my shiny event Entei and the ability to just learn event moves like Entei's Extreme Speed and Sacred Fire. That was a godsend for a lot of Pokemon.

I feel the Pokémon franchise really hit its peak in black and white. Everything else it’s just seemed just like downhill from then. They are basically just milking it now. This could just be me getting older and cynical. But I don’t find the franchise has the same feel as the older generations. I will admit legends was an interesting concept. I just wish they had put more effort into the environment. Oblivion had better graphics than that. I probably would’ve enjoyed that more when I was a kid.

Its impossible to surpass this level of kino.

Everything since has just been cheap gimmicks and excessive genwun boomer pandering. Legends was fun though for what it was.

If there’s one thing I love about the TCG finals is that you can really see how each player makes the best of his or her deck.

That said, seeing both Masters and Juniors division end with mirror matches featuring two different decks (Arceus VSTAR/Flying Pikachu VMAX for Masters and Origin Forme Palkia VSTAR/Inteleon for Seniors) is a bit sad. At least I managed to build the former deck today and that TPCi decided to move rotation to early 2023, now I can make people seethe at a local level.

EDIT: I made a whoopsie. It turns out that the Origin Forme Palkia VSTAR/Inteleon mirror was for the Juniors division, Seniors actually had a Rapid Strike Urshifu VMAX/Inteleon Vs. Origin Forme Palkia VSTAR/Inteleon match.
I enjoyed Pokemon up through Diamond & Pearl. I literally don't remember Black & White or X & Y, so that is where I think they fell into a rut.
The games fell into a rut with XY, Gen 5 was one of the better games still managed to experiment with some things.

The downside is that they tried to do a “soft” reset with BW and a lot of people hated that they had to work with a completely new Pokedex and anything pre-BW had to be transferred over. BW2 tried to fix that by expanding the dex to include some pre-Gen V ‘mons but people still complained and that’s why starting from Gen VI-on you have games that are gimmick-heavy and reliant on past Pokémon like Charizard.

Me: Cyclyzer has the Sugimori Touch all Pokémon have

Everyone: This looks like a Neopet.

It literally looks like a Digimon. I know that's a common sentiment for lots of Pokemon after gen 3 or 4 but it's true.

I like that the ghost crown is literally the Ghost of Marowak from all those years ago, that's a nice touch.

I wonder if terastal is experimenting with the idea of accessorizing pokemon? I mean, the way the crown works is functionally an accessory attach point.

So apparently Cyclizar (the obvious pre-evo or equivalent to Korai and Mirai) is the mount of normal trainers in the region, so i guess it's like a Kubfu thing.

Re: the Eeveelutions debate, I've always thought an interesting way to handle it would be to have a regional variant of Eevee, and have it's evolutions be all clear derivatives of the originals. So, for example, Sylveon's ribbons and bows grow out of control and wrap all around the body, making for a ghost-type mummy variant.

I've literally, not even once, in my entire life, heard someone even suggest that Eeveelutions are special types only as a design rule, and it seems particularly silly considering that one was physical aligned right from the start and eevee's base stats trend physical, making me think of the tortured chinese zodiac fire types connection that is totally real and definitely not people reading far too much into decisions made years apart... but somehow even more illusionary...

But on the extremely tenuous retroactive decision that they have been designing it that way, you could do a regional variant and have that be all the originally physical types, and you wouldn't even have to insist "well it's not actually a special aligned type in the game because it didn't exist then but Fairy totally lines up with special in my crackpot theory".

Get good scrubs.

Stat hyperspecialization in general has gotten worse as the generations have progressed. Look at the start distribution of the starters during gen one or gen two versus gen eight.
I don't see it.
For comparison, here's Charizard's stats:

And here's Cinderace's stats:
Screenshot_20220822-102857_dataDex.jpg

The difference between the two of them is not that glaring (in fact Charizard has slightly a higher BST). Charizard is more well-rounded offensively and defensively, while Cinderace sacrifices some of Defense, Sp. Defense and Sp. Attack in order to hit harder and move faster.

Charizard is an all-rounder and Cinderace is more of a glass cannon.

I’m behind on the times, but I decided to pick up the Mystery Dungeon remake they released a couple of years back.

I didn’t know until just a little while ago that Red Rescue Team got remade. Since I lost the original GBA game years ago, I decided to see if this game would at least have the same elements that made me love the original. I liked the story in the original, so I won’t spoil much for those who have never played the original or this one.

Maybe it’s because my expectations were low, but I’ve been impressed with this remake so far. It feels like a love letter to the original GBA title, and improved on a lot of things.

For a better idea of how much of a glow up it is, let’s compare a few locations of GBA vs Switch.

The artists, developers and programmers didn’t have to go this far but they did. This isn’t to bash the GBA graphics, mind you, as they looked fine for the hardware.

I get the feeling this may have had a longer production cycle, which gave the development team more time to make the game look as presentable as possible.

I’m only halfway through the story at the moment, been doing as many requests in a row as I can just to try to get to higher badge rankings quicker.

Overall, this has so far surpassed my expectations. I remember there being quite a bit of postgame content in the original.
