Who really knows? Certainly not Game Freak. It feels like the devs have insecurity issues when it comes to content game to game. When gen 5 released people bitched about the new Pokemon. Then they changed course and by gen 6 it was all nostalgia pandering. When people started bitching about the Dexit, they made the next DLC specifically to appease discontent fans. I doubt even Game Freak have confidence in this one since all the marketing has been distinctly quieter compared to previous games.
Dude people have been saying that "this game's just the prototype for the next game" since like Sun and Moon. Pokemon Legends: Arceus officially comes out in like a week and you've already written it off as a "beta test" for the next game. You're already imagining Game Freak is going to significantly improve everything for the sequel. They have been shown doing nothing but marketing their new mons and gimmicks in their 3D games for like the past 7 years with only minimal improvements. Hopefully you won't be saying the same thing come Generation 9.
If I had to speculate, my money would be on The Bahamas or some other tropical-based region. Game Freak sure like to set their games in locales where the staff would mostly likely vacation to.
Well you can always try the "demo" and see for yourself if Masuda and company deserve your hard-earned money. What do you really have to lose? A plastic box with a download code and extra digital cosmetics for a game you haven't even played yet?
I think the Dataminers have said it's closer to 230. Then again very few people have beaten the game 100% so you'll have to wait longer for an exact number

Forgive my incredulity at a 20 year old franchise that cannot and will not address mediocre design elements across games that are more or less the same each iteration. Even Mario has radically changed up the formula multiple times and it still gets more criticism than Pokemon.
This Arceus game looks absolutely mediocre and half-baked. The gameplay appears stilted and clunky, with poor animations and optimization. And the game world and the creatures within it aren't even up to the level that was promised before Sword and Shield failed to deliver. Pokemon is by and large a genre unto itself and that requires a critical approach; especially if they are going to charge $60 per game. I like Pokemon games a lot but I am not convinced that Game Freak are good developers and the results expose that time and time again.
I don't need to look for things to complain about; those things are in the pre-release press kit and it is a joke.

I keep seeing people say this, and I just can't wrap my head around what you're seeing that I'm not. Rolling in circles around attack patterns that a 5yo wouldn't have trouble with while chucking socks does not look fun. All I've seen is people doing these mediocre boss battles and fighting random wild pokemon, it's less interesting gameplay than any prior game.

Y'know when you use words like "looks" and "appears" when describing a video game, it's very much telling you haven't even touched the "demo" I fucking spoonfed you last night. You've already made apparent that you're not impressed with the way Game Freak is handling the series but for Christ's sake go validate those feelings by actually playing the dang game instead of coming here and needlessly bitch about it.
Speaking of playing Pokemon games, I'm like 8 hours in and all I've barely progressed the story. I've been doing nothing but fuck around the starting area catching mons. It's been a very pleasant and dare I say, fun experience so far.

My initial complaints from a week ago were from the new trailers and overview video. I can see these things with great accuracy because I have the experience. People hate me for my skill. Then as leaked footage began coming out a couple days ago I was able to confirm many of my concerns. And thanks to user @Toxinophile I was able to set up an emulator last night and try the leaked build out.
So yes.
I want a good reimagined Pokemon game and I wanted Arceus to be that game. But Arceus is not that game. The open-world design has ended up being a gimmick rather than a design innovation for the series. But maybe the next attempt at this will be better.

Glad to hear this, I'm one of those guys who likes to roam around open areas in games and waste time so hearng that makes me think that this will be my new 'tism simulator
Can't play it exactly rn because I'm an amd cuck and I don't want to fuck up my switch but will be picking it up at launch and probably not be able to be pulled from that thing on launch day

Only down side I noticed so far being L no longer functions as an A button, at least at one point I think L=A corrected itself later on. also the pointing animation for sending following pokemon doesn't work, but that is really minor in the grand scheme of things

These designs are the worse by far, most are completely irredeemable. I liked most pokemon through gen 8, but this is unprecedented poor design.
What a strawman. This game doesn't even have ok graphics for an indie game. This would be an ugly game on the gamecube.

Because it gets worse every single time. Each year GF manages to lower the bar even further and old fans like me who just want even a mediocre game are disappointed in new ways each time. It's not that I hate pokemon, I still play romhacks and other creature collectors and love them. This has everything to do with us wanting quality pokemon games and gamefreak shitting it up in every conceivable way.
If it was the same mediocre shit every time I wouldn't bother commenting, but somehow they've pushed out a game so bad I honestly consider it a scam at this point. This is some next level garbage and I want to talk about that.

No, I just find it sad that people will just sit and cry that this game isnt what they want every single year. Its been happening since gen 2 almost the same critiques since gen 6. How many times do they need to blatantly ignore you (and still rake in shit loads of money) before you get the hint that youre probably never gonna get whatever game youre looking for.
