Eh, I’d still have more fun picking out Pokémon I like and trying to be creative with the moves to make a challenging team then pick the same group of competitive Pokémon everyone picks and use the exact same move set everyone does.

Pokemon is a single player RPG for almost the entire fanbase. Having weak early bug pokemon you upgrade into something better once you make it through the early game is part of the balance. Butterfree will carry you with it's better stats than your starter until you get to late game where it falls off and you can get something better. To shake up the meta in any reasonable way they need to ban legendaries from online play or not put them in the game. That's not happening when they some of the most popular money makers in the franchise. Competitive play was supported extremely well with Sw/Sh. Going back to BD/SP's lack of support for easy leveling, Unlimited or easy to find TMs, hyper training and EV training made me appreciate how much Sw/Sh did to improve those aspects. If Gamefreak makes it that easy next time while setting distinct battle modes it would probably get more people into playing online. Add little cup, limited dex events (rotate monthly) and other ways to remove the broken stuff and more people will play. They could go full shill mode and do things like Eeveelutions only for a month. People would have a blast and cosmetic items like an Eevee hat or backpack would get people interested in playing.

Charizard hate is weird. He's called a shillmon but he's not close to as shilled as Rotom is. Rotom went from a cool hidden pokemon to being shoved in your face every single game after. We never got Charizard phone or Charizard bike. Next gen will have Rotom dilation stations so you can switch gender on the fly.
Legendaries arent that much of a problem in and of themselves. Many of them are strong but relatively fair. Entei is a good example of a legendary that can be very viable but hardly broken. The problem is the over tuned shit they keep putting in. Who the fuck that that regieleki was a fair introduction for example. It outspeeds everything, deals a shitton of damage, and has speed control. Its far too over tuned for standard play. It may have a shallow movepool but it doesn't matter when it can cover the holes with utility. Alot of the Ultra Beasts are similar though not as severe. Its like they ran out of ideas for pokemon with normal stat spreads and abilities so they just made things so skewed in one direction they automatically win in a huge number of conditions. Zacian and Calyrex are also retarded but I don't think there was ever any illusion they were supposed to be fair. There's a reason they're locked to restricted formats. These heavily skewed pokemon are all either gods or trash and they are the source of most of the problems. If they were even a little less extreme with their stat distributions and abilities they wouldn't be nearly as much of an issue.

Do you think tha there are 'Sacred Cows' regarding Pokémon here? I mean, Pikachu and Charizard ar easy to hate, bu the fandom (outside The Farms, of course) apparently gets furious whether you criticise Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle.
If that is true, the no wonder there was a lot of Generation 1 shilling in Generation 6... and beyond.
Gen 1 is iconic as the first generation. It's also the oldest and needing the most help to stay relevant. The bigger problem I found is that strong stuff gets made stronger with unique mega evolutions instead of helping the weaker stuff catch up a bit. Salamance and Tyranitar don't need more buffs.

Ultra beasts are legendaries as far as being post game uber monsters. Ubers should be a legit format within the games and anything with a stat total above a set point should be restricted just to it in competitive play. Pseudo legendaries are just as bad for the meta. Who wants to deal with dragapult's insane speed? There's always power creep in pokemon but that's manageable within a games dex if they design it to be. I don't mean in Smogons dumb way of banning everything and making everything switch in and out every other turn. Just cutting the dex to a designed meta game where you figure out the top pokemon and make sure they all have a counter so the functional pool is 50 or more instead of 10 would be fine. That's the strength of dex cuts, even if DLC will ruin it and make pokemon pay to win.

Will the next pokemon have season passes? Drip feed one new pokemon a week or do big dlc drops on a season pass smash style?

I feel the current reception towards Charizard is less hate and more people getting burnt out on it. I don’t recall much complaining about pandering in gen 6 but by gen 8 people were tired of it especially since it was overshadowing the other two Kanto starters.
This. I still like Charizard, even if I would usually pick Bulbasaur, but in comparison to the other two Kanto starters it’s no competition who’s the favourite child - only two Pokémon got more than 1 Mega Form, and the other was fuck mothering Mewtwo.

I’d probably be the same towards any other Pokémon that got half as much love from the devs - with the sole exception, again, of Pikachu, because he’s the bloody mascot…

I'm just gonna say I find it hilarious that people are now clamoring for a Dexit after the last one went over so well.

It seems like no matter what GameFreak does, they get shit on.

Add new Pokemon? People complain that there's too many of them now.

Cut some Pokemon? People ree that they can no longer transfers their decades old Phanpy to the newest games.

Try a brand-new region with just brand new Pokemon? People screech that they hate it, and demand for the old ones to come back.

Make a new region that uses both new Pokemon, and some old favorite ones? They get accused nostalgia-baiting the fanbase and relying too much on the older games.

Real talk here, I don't think GameFreak actually knows what the fanbase wants because every time they try to give the fanbase something they were clamoring for, the fanbase does a 180 and screams that it's awful, and that they never wanted it in the first play only to demand it again a year, or so later.

I'm not gonna say that the quality of Pokemon games hasn't dipped over the past few years, and that GameFreak doesn't play favorites with certain 'mons, but I'm not gonna blame them for not understanding what the fanbase wants because the fanbase itself doesn't even know what it really wants.

...their focusing on children makes more sense now. After all, the ones who are doing the hypocritical complaining are of a different age group, whereas children are going to be happy with whatever The Pokémon Company gives them.

That, and Pokemon is supposed to be a fucking children's game.

That doesn't mean it's allowed to be low-quality, or that GameFreak shouldn't at least try to remember the series has an older fanbase, but at the end of the day it's supposed to be meant for children, and frankly, all these adults reeing nonstop over a fucking kid's game is just pathetic.

Pokemon is huge, there's always going to be a large group of people unhappy with whatever decision is made. I like the dex cut because it makes the games less bloated with useless pokemon. How many early game birds, bugs and rats do you really need? It's a very small group of people transfering pokemon every generation so they can use the same one through every game making a lot of noise on dex cuts. What does 1,001 monsters add that 1,000 doesn't?

Pokemon isn't a children's game. It's a family game. The original games weren't made exclusively for children, it was made to be fun for all age groups. Pokemon is really complex in terms of monster typings, stats and abilities far outweighing most other JRPGs. Even old time fans struggle to keep up with all the type chart changes and abilities going around. Kids games are way less complex than pokemon is and that's why newer games hand hold you so hard to make them accessible. Literal "use this move" subtitles in battle is the compensation for children keeping up with an overbloated system.

If you want a real controversial take try this one. Pokemon needs a hard reboot. Strip out everything and reevaulate it. Legends Arceus should be the foundation they build off and everything except monsters existing and being tamable should be questioned and redone if nessecary. No legacy anything unless it justifies it's self now. They won't do it because pokemon still prints money but they should. Dokev is what pokemon should be at this point and isn't.

At this point, being an older Pokémon fan is almost like being a Sonic fan - half the fun is in being angry/disappointed. At least GF seem to know which portion of the fanbase to try and appeal to - kids might be dumb, but they’re a pretty safe and reliable market (or at least their parents are…)

Then again, all I want is a Pokémon game that isn’t just a hallway simulator, and remakes of Coliseum and Gale of Darkness. Least we might be getting one of those with Legends…

Gen 9 will have Rotom Hallways and doors. You walk down them and Rotom takes up half the screen with unskippable dialog boxes every time you reach a check point.

...I actually kinda hope that a new Dexit akes into account actual fan favourites and iscards the remaining ones. I mean, I may like Whiscash and Emolga, but I am one of the few there.
By the by, what are the actual fan favourites?

UPDATE: I am not actually hoping towards a new Dexit, but, if there is going to be one in the future, at leas take note of the Pokémon others really like.

They do popularity polls every few months. They're aware of what's popular and what's selling merch. It's pikachu clones, starters and legendaries for the most part.

I would like to see everything but pikachu redone from the ground up. Instead of mega evolutions and regional forms make those the nu pokemon and be done with it. If you want Charizard to be mega style make it a split evolution from Charmeleon like Raltz has. The games are too bloated and game freak as useless so cut everything back and have legacymons in the spin offs and mobile games.

Aren't popularity polls a yearly thing? I only see them being done every February for Pokémon of the Year.

At this point, it feels like Charizard, Eevee, and Meowth are mascots too.

Not really. Being someone that used to be both, you just become indifferent/numb, especially when it happens constantly.

"oh... SEGA released another Sonic game with bugs up the ass and didn't learn their lesson the last couple of time... ok"

"oh... Pokemon has now turned into a typical AAA title with DLC shenanigans and even more nostalgia pandering... ok"

"oh... CAPCOM is doing more greedy shit to Street Fighter V because people will still shove money in their faces even when the launch and post launch was fucking terrible... ok"

"oh... KONAMI is still releasing DDR games, but haven't released a home port since 2010, and are still fucking with the difficulty of older songs, and are still treating American players like shit by not letting them play any of the licenses in A20 Plus... ok"

The passion that I once had a long time ago is only for the past. Only time I look forward is to see the dumpster fires that are made when these new games inevitably turn to shit.
