The biggest problem with getting used Pokemon titles is that, despite having uttery MASSIVE print runs that would make most AAA games blush, are hard to find since they are almost always immediately bought up. To compound this, they are sold with outrageous prices compared to other games for their systems, even ones with much smaller print runs. The only reason why the prices have remained so high is because people keep buying up any used Pokemon games they see despite the price they are being sold for, causing them to continue climbing in price. Covid also hasn't helped, with many 2nd-hand hobby-related items skyrocketing in prices. The price it used to cost to buy a(non-sealed) boxed copy of Pokemon Soulsilver with the Pokewalker in 2019 now can't even get you a loose cart of the game.
Then again, there is reason why this thread had its title changed to '(not-so)'. Remember that, even after all the grieving Pokémon gets, Pokémon i still the largest multimedia franchise in the world. You cannot go that far without doing a lot of things right, even if you do a lot of things wrong. The original games that found such a prolific franchise are definitely going to stay in value.

I still firmly advocate for emulating games that are long since out of print, especially since Nintendo almost never re-releases unless it’s at least two decades old. In the case of Gen 5, there’s a save editor that allows you to edit various values like what kind of Pokémon show up in the Entralink Forest or medals for p2p functions you’d otherwise be locked out of from playing on an emulator in BW2. You might not be able to trade and battle, but if you’re trying to 100% the games like I am, it’s worth considering, especially since online services now being joined at the hip with main game play has made games like Sword and Shield harder to solo.

Official game cart of Silver Soul.

Also have no access to any other G4 carts to do any trading with (though I do own a DS and a 3DS respectively)

If you don't find it too bothersome, you could softmod your 3DS and either start your new SS save there or install any other Gen IV game to transfer your Pokemon to.
I softmodded my 3DS and I was able to backup my save file with a homebrew app called Checkpoint and edit it on PC with PKHeX. You're able to make individual backups for any Pokemon in your boxes and you can insert them back into a new save if you want. Here's a good guide on modding your 3DS and you only really need a SD card. It will take about an hour to mod it but you shouldn't have to do anything past that.

It's amazing seeing how much easier 3DS modding has gotten since I had to do mine in 2017 or so when you couldn't unfuck your console if it bricked. I was just about to post to recommend PKHeX too.

I never used PKMDS but I see it's discontinued. You may want to check out Suloku's tools for Gen V. It does Entralink Forest, medals and Memory Link between BW and BW2 for Challenge Mode, the Regis, the post-game memories and battles, etc.

I was suprised too when I modded in it 2019 to start playing some romhacks of the 3DS games. I remember looking into it around 2015-2016 and decided it wasn't worth the risk and forgot about it until then. Now the 3DS homebrew community is in a much better shape and there's a lot out there. Those romhacks of Gen VI/VII fixed a lot of the difficulty and leveling curve issues I had with the games and made them all a real challenge and the emulation for GBA and before has matured. Made me appreciate my 3DS a lot more.

Oh shit, I sent the wrong link! The link you got is the save editor I was meaning to show in my last post because that’s the one I’m currently using for my dual playthrough. I downloaded it initially for the express purpose of being able to Memory Link, but have been using the hex editor to get unobtainable medals and entralink mons.

You might need to use Rhydon if your Generation 1 team or boxes have a Missingno.

I think the funniest thing to come from this was all the people that were super butthurt that they were patching out the glitches. The twitter post was full of salt because they removed some of the duping exploits.
Honestly, if you want to have fun with a pokemon game and glitches gen 1 is where it is at. It is basically a game built on top of a bunch of glitches. I wish they would acknowledge missingno in the official games, if anything but as a passing joke with an NPC talking a pokemon Lovecraft book and it could be the pokemon equivalent of Cthulu. It is realistic for there to be books written about fictional monstrosities.

I am going through the game doing the gym leader challenge to make it harder. The rules I am playing by
1) Only using one type. I chose flying type
2) No switching out pokemon
3) No legendaries.
4) I can only use the same amount of pokemon as the gym leader I am going to be fighting. So for most if the game I am stuck with just three I can actively use.
5) No unreasonable amount of level grinding (Giving myself no more than +3 above the highest level of the gym leader I am going to be fighting. Go above then that pokemon needs to be boxed)

The version of the rules I read is much stricter with you restarting your game if you wipe but I am not doing that on this run.

My partner and I haven't played a pokemon game on the DS, so this is new to us.

I am shocked that you can get a fucking Mew and Jirachi before the second gym with it just given out to you. I have far more respect for the people who glitched (cheated) their way to a Mew using the fucking Mew glitch. Say what you will about it being cheating but at you least you need to put in effort to not only get to Mew but also throw the fucking ball at it. That seems more legit to me, the legit way feels more like cheating to me.

In Japan, MissingNO. is pretty much an unknown in the fanbase, Most of the glitches that make you encounter it were produced during the localization process(Since our Red and Blue were basically hastily-made Romhacks of the Japanese Blue to have the encounter tables and in-game trades of the original Red and Green versions), which Game Freak themselves had no direct hand in. It also doesn't help that Game Freak only has one non-Japanese employee, and he is mostly regulated to the design team.

So it will probably never be referenced officially because it is pretty much a non-entity in Pokemon's country of origin.

Actually, one of the TCG artists drew MissingNo.

I think ninetales is pearl exclusive, Pokémon will follow you after a certain point but from what I’ve seen it’s buggy and laggy as hell.

But I don’t actually have the games so take that with a grain of salt
I hate that among all the shit they patched, most pokemon on the roster are still slow as fuck

I seriously just want pokemon to follow right behind you normally, like in HGSS. No more of this trailing behind shit

It’s not even like having a model follow your character is anything but the easiest thing to program.

If I recall correctly, it was requested by a western fan. And as far as I could find, that is the only notable piece of Japanese fanart of MissingNO. It hasn't permeated the Japanese fanbase the way it has internationally, mostly due to most of the easiest and safest glitches to run into it simply not existing in the Japanese versions of the games

I used Internet Archive.

The writing a the bottom-right corner means 'Bugpoke.'... or 'Glitchmon'.
The writing next to each English name is jus translations of the names plus each type: Aerodactyl Fossil Type, Kabutops Fossil Type, and Glitch Type.

Oh no Lake Valor has exploded or something and I need to get there immediately!! Man this sure seems like a good time to finish up some sidequests, maybe do some EV training, explore the map...

It's actually pretty funny if you go to the other two lakes, the characters will get all upsetti at you about it and tell you to go do the plot already lol
