So it seems like the nickname bug I posted about earlier consistently happens in the Grand Underground when playing online. I've been grinding for Nat Dex entries by catching/evolving stuff down there and I see the name of what evolved being wrong about 30-40% of the time.

It seems they substitute the Pokémon's name for that of one of the random other players in your Grand Underground session, as I didn't seem to have the issue when I was in a solo Underground session. I was able to see notifications from, and find the Secret Bases of, players with the same name as what was substituted when they evolved.

I haven't done any (competitive) battling since Gen VI, but I've gone back to breeding the little fuckers because it's become something of a game trying to breed a 'mon with near perfect IVs. So far I have bred a Gible, Chimchar, Ralts, and Rhyhorn with five perfect IVs and will be working on Piplup next. It's almost like gambling because I sometimes hit the jackpot as I have hatched Pokemon with perfect IVs many times.

Patch 1.1.2 for Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shiny Pearl recently came out!
Official Pokémon Tweet
Patch Notes - Pokémon BDSP - Nintendo (Americas) - Vague as usual...

Before this, there were mass Pokémon/item duplication glitches that progressed: single -> party -> box. Yes, there was a box-sized dupe glitch. This was caused by a menu glitch. (I heard that it may have been introduced in Patch 1.1.0, meaning that it may not have been present in the unpatched game. However, I would need confirmation of that.) This was fixed in 1.1.2, meaning most other glitches that were a subset of this one should no longer work. (Some people are whining that these were patched.)
Edit: Not completely fixed! From Bulbapedia: "The menu glitch was patched in version 1.1.2, making these methods of duplication impossible without hacking. However, another method of the menu storage involving pressing X while pushing a boulder with Strength still exists, and hence its related glitches can still be done."

The Snowpoint City Gym [edit: and Veilstone City Gym] softlocks should be patched as well.
Since Surfing on Land has been patched, you can no longer obtain Shaymin early.
There was a void glitch that may now be patched.
Edit 2: Confirmed - Daycare Duplication Glitch WAS patched, as you can no longer Quick Select boxes there.

Supposedly you could make non-shiny Pokémon Shiny as well, but the game may become unstable by doing so because it grabs other stats. This may have been fixed as well, as it seems to be a subset of the Menu Glitch.

Not fixed in 1.1.2 (that I know of):
- Infinite Rare Candies Glitch

I should look around to see what else was patched.

I think the funniest thing to come from this was all the people that were super butthurt that they were patching out the glitches. The twitter post was full of salt because they removed some of the duping exploits.

I'm unironically enjoying Shining Pearl. I forgot how good the music is, the only downside so far is that it makes me feel positively geriatric that these games are old enough for remakes.

Quick question. I want to start a new game on Silver Soul but want to save/preserve my pokemon from my unfinished game I started a long time ago. What are my options to transfer them into storage and later re-upload to my new Silver Soul game or am I fucked and either have to delete them or finish the unfinished game?

Getting another DS and another Gen IV cart and doing lots and lots of trading would be the most obvious answer

Are you playing tha through a flashcart or a retail cartridge?

Official game cart of Silver Soul.

Also have no access to any other G4 carts to do any trading with (though I do own a DS and a 3DS respectively)

If you own a Gen V game you can transfer all of your Pokemon(except Spiky-Earred Pichu if you have one) to those games 6 at a time. The Gen V game needs to be in the post-game but it doesn't matter what point your Gen IV game is at. Just put one game in your DS and the other in your 3DS.

From Gen V it can be sent to Bank one-way to be put into Gen VI or VII, or transferred from Bank to Home, in which case only the Pokemon found in Sword and Shield can be put in the game, but unless you evolve an Eevee into Sylveon or Pikachu/Exeggcute/Cubone/Koffing/Mime Jr. into their regional evolutions, you will most likely be able to put all of them into Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl, since not only are all 493 Pokemon and forms that existed in HGSS(except, once again, Spiky-Earred Pichu) coded in those games, you can also apparently get a special diploma with a Pokemon's DP sprite if any of those Pokemon were traded to you from the original Diamond and Pearl. BDSP compatibility with Home isn't being added until sometime next year, however.

So in other words I'm fucked since I don't have any G5 games, let alone one that has been beaten in other words.....

I could be wrong about this, but I can't imagine it would be that hard to find a copy of Diamond or Pearl at a second hand store. Aren't popular games that sold alot of copies usually the easiest ones to still be able to find 10-15 years later?

None of the pawn shops where I live carry portable systems PERIOD.

And the local mom and pop video game store that carries older console stuff, follows ebay trends and charges full price and a little extra for older Pokemon games even if it's just the cartridge. Because Pokemon games don't go down in value and if anything, stay expensive long after production is discontinued.

They keep their value almost indefinitely. Even the Red/Blue/Yelow carts that have uniformly dead batteries still sell for upwards of $50 with obvious knock-offs being at least $10-30. There are more reproduction carts of Platinum for sale than actual ones, which often go for $90 or more (multi-thousand-dollar ebay shitters notwithstanding)

If you don't find it too bothersome, you could softmod your 3DS and either start your new SS save there or install any other Gen IV game to transfer your Pokemon to.

The biggest problem with getting used Pokemon titles is that, despite having uttery MASSIVE print runs that would make most AAA games blush, are hard to find since they are almost always immediately bought up. To compound this, they are sold with outrageous prices compared to other games for their systems, even ones with much smaller print runs. The only reason why the prices have remained so high is because people keep buying up any used Pokemon games they see despite the price they are being sold for, causing them to continue climbing in price. Covid also hasn't helped, with many 2nd-hand hobby-related items skyrocketing in prices. The price it used to cost to buy a(non-sealed) boxed copy of Pokemon Soulsilver with the Pokewalker in 2019 now can't even get you a loose cart of the game.

I remember when there was a reliable clonin glitch in Pokémon Emerald.
Oh, the shiny and Legendary Pokémon I could clone...
Not sure if this has ever been documented, but the Battle Tower cloning glitch has backfired on me at least once. I tested it on a Marshstomp I was EV training and ended up losing it, only to find after starting a new save file that said Marshtomp was in the possession of a multi-battle NPC with the name of my brother (the last person I mixed records with on that save, iirc) The weird part is, the glitch worked before with a Swellow, so I dunno why it somehow backfired the way that it did.

My guess is that I inadvertently messed with a hex value and one of the multi battle trainers got overwritten.
