Is the remake as lame as it looked?
I picked Brilliant Diamond up after getting off work. Generation 4 was the one I skipped because I didn't have a DS at the time so it's a generation I still needed to play through. I'm not far into it but it's not that bad. I can see how people would dislike it for the stylistic choices though. My only problem with the game so far is that it has a built in experience sharing feature that you can't turn off. That may make EV training a pain in the ass at times but I personally can get over it.

Wonder how it looks on the OLED screen. I like this art style and perspective over that of Sword and Shield. I wouldn't mind if the next new game was a tuned up version of what these remakes are using.

My copy of Brilliant Diamond was delivered this morning.

The good:
- The music is nice, and the sound is good all around.
- The Grand Underground is an improvement over the original.
- The return of walking with your Pokemon is nice (although I haven't reached the point where that becomes possible yet).
- It's a Pokemon game, so at the very least it's basically fun.

The bad:
- Other than the Grand Underground, Ramanas Park, and the leader rematches, it's a straight remake of Diamond and Pearl, which isn't necessarily bad bad, but it feels like a fairly significant step back, especially considering the improvements in HeartGold/SoulSilver and Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire. (I had forgotten how much I missed being able to name the rival character, though.)
- The game retails for $60, but it honestly doesn't feel like a $60 game. I got it with Amazon gift cards from filling out surveys, so it wasn't a huge deal to me, but I'd probably be disappointed if I paid full price for it out of pocket.

I haven't played it on the TV yet, so I can't comment on how it will look in that scenario, although it seems as if it's meant to be played in handheld mode. I also haven't done anything online yet, but it seems very bare-bones, which I guess goes back to it being a straight remake.

The Link's Awakening remake did a chibi, toy-like art style much better, but at least BDSP have a consistent framerate.

Compared to gaming trashfires like Sonic 06 and Cyberpunk 2077, Sword and Shield was pretty mediocre.
Compared to remake trashfires like Warcraft 3 Reforged and GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition, BDSP is also very mediocre.
Delivering neither great games nor great trashfires, the mainline Pokemon series is a franchise forever destined to mediocrity in both senses.

In Canada new switch games cost about 80 dollars, I think I will pass on these remakes, I would rather play the original DS copies

Would you say it's better than Platinum, about the same, or worse?
Also, worth pirating or not?

my favorite is pokemon crystal clear

official ones was platinum.
Crystal Clear sucks compared to Roaming Red and R.O.W.E., or so I think. Try those out for more open world fun.

Definitely worse than Platinum, but worth pirating if you're curious.

One thing I definitely don't like is the fact that caught Pokemon go by default to the next open spot in your boxes numerically, rather than being determined by the last box you were in.

I got my copy of Shining Pearl last night. Being a 1:1 remake of D/P, it's worse in the sense that there's no postgame content, a weaker story and a lack of options in routes.

The Grand Underground, speed, removal of HMs and easier grinding fixes most of the problems with the Sinnoh games. But the fact that there's none of the improvements Platinum added is very disappointing.

I'm still having more fun than I did with Shield or Let's Go, so that's something.
