So weird gen5 is when they started adding really good bugs.

Bugs are usually meant to be an introductory pokemon which teaches you how the basics of pokemon work alongside your starter but that's not much of a good reason for them to be bad.
Just looking at the type chart, bug isn't horrible defensively. Fighting and Ground are pretty common offensive types and grass types usually pair good alongside fire and water types making bug a surprisingly good pivot. Sure it's also weak to three common offensive types but ice is weak to a lot as well and weaknesses can be mitigated in team building.
Bugs biggest problem is that Gamefreak doesn't give them a lot of good pokemon or type combos and even if they do get some some good super effective targets in Grass, Psychic, and Bug, so many types also resists Bug even past the point of it making sense. Why do Fighting, Flying, Ghost, and Fairy even resist Bug?

Fighting - You ever been bit by a bug? 9 times out of 10 you smooshed that fucker. 99 times out of 100 you smooshed that fucker without ever getting bit and might not have even noticed.

Flying - Birds eat bugs

Ghost - Ghosts are spoopy and are thus not as affected by bugs which are also spoopy

Fairy - Fairy is overpowered
 
Thinking about it now I'm shocked Ground isn't weak to bug like grass is

Bugs do like to burrow into the dirt and even make homes in them
 
Weird, I've never had any issues with the Kanto Max Raids (but then again I actually level up my good Dynamax Pokémon).
I barely leveled my Dynamax Pokemon, and was still able to stomp the 1*s effortlessly. The shitty rewards from the 3* raids still don't justify the time and effort you have to put into them, and I'm not bothering with Falinks.
 
I am not sure what to do... Masquerain has a good speed and an acceptable special attack. And it would be my second special attacker.

Now carracosta attack and special attack are almost the same so I can swap both of them and there is shell smash. The problem is how weak it becomes in defense after it, but it is a cool pokemon either.

I am seriously considering cutting my starter since it feels like a glass canon sometimes

But Emerald Rogue has officially ceased development. Personally I'm a bit saddened, since ER remains to this day my favorite romhack of them all

I am unironically going to download and put money into the tcg app
The TCG has always been really fun but there was never really a good way to play digitally
there is that one program that feels like a flash game from the 90's that was only available on the pc and ipad but that was dogshit
 
Man BW2 map is so much better than the first one. This hacked version also added the hoenn gym leaders to fight before the big tournment and I noticed how npcs refers to future regions ans locations that would come like Alola and Galar.

The new city that is aquatic is quite charming and reminds me of pacifidlog in hoenn.

Since in this hack they made farming easier through audino spawning, I even got a shiny one:

The game is clearly an improvement to the first one, I feel like there are lots of things that I never did like the pokémon studio stuff and the dress up minigames.

As for the story, it really feels like an epilogue to the first game rather than a sequel. Every damn time they mutter the "you remind me of someone from 2 years ago". Even changes made by the hack to introduce colress early doesn't help that much in relation to the first game.

Also Ghetsis appearing in the game after that long time with us dealing with zezelin dude feels kinda cheap. I expected it to be him as the new leader of plasma instead of the hobo ghetsis that we got.

As for the dificulty, there are some battles that are harder but I dont think I lost to gym leaders as much as I did in blaze black redux. I noticed how rare full teams were in relation to the first hack where even the first gym had a full party instead.

I feel like my team is considerably weaker than the first game. I reached the E4 with this team and I dont think it will be a easy game. Even normal trainers with those 4 alongside Lance fucked me over hard with their covered bases and speed. (A single Kingdra killed 4 of my pokémons every time I used a move qnd he already covered it and outspeed me with the water terrain)

What I fear the most here is Iris, basically I only have Ice beam and play rough on masquerain and Leavanny to hit it, maybe I will TM some dragon moves on the final battle If I get there.

A slight word of warning: depending on where you live (NZ-only for now, but it'll shift towards a majority of Western regional markets come the 30th) there are two Pokémon TCG apps.

To start there's TCG Live which is like the IRL card game but has no internal monetization whatsoever. You can buy code cards from a 3rd-party seller or buying IRL packs to boost your card library to a certain extent (the game does give you some meta decks for free but you'll have to spend Credits or open packs to make tournament-viable decks). There's a Battle Pass that rotates every set release and they're generally pretty easy to complete and a Ranked Ladder that can give you some nice rewards. The game does have a nasty tendency of getting glitchy whenever a new set drops due to being developed by TPCi in-house on a less-than-shoestring budget and there are other smaller issues.

And then there's TCG Pocket (it's currently softlocked to New Zealand but it'll get a proper release on October 30th). It's more like Marvel Snap and similar mobile TCGs where the game is designed around quick matches with smaller decks and different rules than the main TCG (Pocket uses a 20-card deck with a standard "playset" being two cards, Energy cards from the main game are generated in a specialized zone once per turn unless certain Trainer cards are used, and the main TCG's Prize card system is discarded in favor of a point system where the player that gets 3 points first wins the match). There is monetization in it but according to a developer the gap between FTP players and PTW players won't be too drastic and there will be events to help even it out.

If you're talking about the now-defunct Pokémon TCG Online game that's because it was a Flash-based web game when it first came out in 2011, they shifted it to a Unity-based app for computers and tablets a year later.

That said there are some people (myself included) that would rather have Online come back or at least have TPCi realize that their in-house programmers are genuinely awful and should go back to having third-party development teams working on their apps.

Awesome, now all the horrible bullshit past the eighth gym is never getting fixed. Thanks, troon.

I don't have any actual ill will towards the dev as a person, I'm just really salty about that difficulty spike. I loved the 2.0 overhaul but the fact that the AI almost felt like it was outright cheating past the sixth or seventh gym, with how ridiculously competent their teams were, made the entire game completely unfun to play as you kept getting fucked over by any luck that wasn't perfect while they steamrolled. You either go against the entire point of "Pokémon as a roguelike" and just build a normal team through metaprogression to win before hoping you get good items in a run, or you PRAY TO GOD that you get an absolutely perfect team on any given run, as well as good items to go along with it, as well as enough healing and money to keep you on the same level as the bosses throughout the entire thing. The fact that you cannot easily heal before 90% of boss fights without paying obscene amounts of money means that even base-game bosses would be hard, so why did this retard think it was a great idea to go full VGC in 2.0?

Rant over. I really hope a better dev does a proper rebalancing of 2.0 to make it more like 1.0 in difficulty. The latter felt like it hit a sweet spot that most ROM Hacks have never achieved, where it's tough enough to be engaging but not so tough that it restricts teambuilding or feels like bullshit, and seeing 2.0 throw that all out was tragic.
 
Just FYI as you guys seem into them, there's a huge collection of pre-patched ROM hacks on archive.org, all GBA ones, 947 total. It's mostly dumps of ducumon and stuff and a lot is of course crap but you guys might wanna nab it. They're apparently all "complete" sans 4-6 roms.

I never paid it much mind, but now that I think of it, I'm not sure I ever actually managed to win more than once or twice. It's a fun time waster, but it really feels like the concept that you should reasonably be able to reach the end now and then instead of chipping away at runs forever got lost along the way somewhere.

Anything good for playing in short bursts like ER? I only really have it on my phone as a timekiller, I don't think I've really bothered much with ROMhacks beyond that.

Its just a huge collection of all the notable "completed" hacks for GBA. I'm sure there's a huge range in play burstability. Couldn't tell you which though, sorry.

I'm gonna call that it'll be like a lot of other dropped projects picked up by loser teams: focusing less on listening to the general audience and instead listening to the dev's friend clique...oh, and troon pandering. LOTS of troon pandering.
PokeRouge, Pokemon Prism and Brown, Pokemon Uranium, quite a few others I imagine.
