I'm going to assume you can still spell out naughty words with the Unown whether in the PC or in your party, I haven't tested this out in Arceus to check. Wouldn't be surprised if Game Freak finally caught on to that, though.
You can only ever catch one g-shaped Unown.

And the world cried out in pain.

That was how Shadow Pokemon worked in XD, wasn't it? The Shadow moves were always Super Effective.

Not quite. Shadow moves were always x2 effective on non-shadow Pokemon, even ones with no weaknesses(Sableye, since this was pre-fairy type, and Electric types that were given Levitate via Skill Swap) and not very effective on shadow Pokemon

Hidden Power in Legends can only imitate the 17 pre-existing types that pokemon are capable of being weak against(so everything but Normal), and always prioritizes a doubly-effective type if the target Pokemon has one or more x4 weaknesses. Since abilities and hold items don't exist in the game we can't test what would happen vs a Pokemon with no weaknesses, since the only possible way to do that now that Fairy is a thing is having a pure Electric type or a Poison/Dark type holding an Air Balloon, be effected by the Telekinesis ,move(also not in Legends), or obtain Levitate as an ability.

Actually, after you catch all 28, you can get an arbitrary number of any of the forms in the Solaceon Ruins(they can even be Alpha and/or Shiny)

Too bad they excluded the letters as an option for the ball capsules in BDSP and the move Chatter because of bAd wOrDs muh.

In Sun and Moon, people wouldn’t just stop with the Malasada. Malasada this, Malasada that. It was distracting as fuck.

Now, everyone won’t shut up for one second about Potato Mochi.

With Gen 9 being announced, time for a Gen 8 apologist sperg post with what I actually liked about it.
  • Vitamins being able to buy your way to perfect EVs via drugs was a godsend for comp
  • Nature mints are a godsend
  • I actually liked the TM+TR system since it gave you 200 teachable moves, many of which were former signature moves or tutor moves in Gen 7
  • Heavy Duty Boots gave new life to a ton of Pokemon
  • Ability Patches are amazing, but way too hard to get
  • The Wild Areas were fun and GF was smart to lean into these in the DLCs and Legends
  • Having DLCs so you don't have to buy an entire new game or play through it again to play the new content
  • Raid battles with friends were a ton of fun, although I'm disappointed there weren't any events to take on Eternamax Eternatus or some messed up Dynamaxed Zacian or Zamazenta or something
  • Designs were alright, with a few I really liked like Obstagoon and Toxtricity
  • Glad that regional variants weren't a gimmick contained to Gen 7
Sword and Shield beat out Sun/Moon and X/Y for me, but it reminds me of X/Y were most of my time and effort in the game went into playing comp instead of actually playing the game. 3 years from now ORAS and Ultra Sun will be far more present in my mind for their stronger single player than X/Y and SS for their comp. Hopefully Scarlet and Violet continue the trend of a system's later gens being better games.

My best bit of Gen 8 apologia is that they removed fucking Hidden Power. It was an *enormous* pain if you wanted to breed for it on cart along with good IVs, egg moves, and nature, and with injected mons and in sims it gave anything you wanted perfect or near-perfect coverage. Shit like HP Ice, Grass, and Bug have stunted competitive Pokemon into switch-counter-switch for almost 20 years.

Random thought came to mind checking out a Yellow longplay. What was the custom Poké Ball in Oak's Parcel, anyway? Do we ever get a clue as to what that might've been?

Kurt and Professor Oak are canonical buddies, so probably an apricorn ball.

I honestly forgot about them removing moves as a positive. Fuck Pursuit, fuck Hidden Power. Most of the rest of the moves they removed were fluff like Barrier and Bubble or were too good as coverage moves like Signal Beam. Trimming moves was for the better balance wise.

The only other thing I've thought of since posting is the music. I actually really liked the big battle themes like Hop's, Leon's, Mustard's, and the Battle Tower. Plus having the Gym Leader theme come in with the chanting when your opponent is down to their last Pokemon was a nice touch and I'm hoping for some more dynamic themes in Sacrlet and Violet.

I think graphics in Sw/Sh were really good in terms of the towns and cities and everything. Stuff looked really good there. It was mainly the Wild Area that I ever saw people bitch about in terms of graphics
