I'm trying to finish fire red because I never finished it when I was younger does anyone have any useful tips for it? Personally I don't like having certain evolutions locked behind trading because I don't have anyone to trade with lmao, is there anyway to circumvent that or is it just the only way.
Don't buy the Magikarp before Mt. Moon as it will break the game for you. Unless you WANT to steamroll everything.

In which case buy the Magikarp.

For an actual tip, there are next to no held items the entire game, but you will find little grass patches that look different that have berries which can be useful. The trashcans have some on the S.S. Anne too if I remember right.

Don't count on using any evolutions that weren't in the original game unless you hack the game on an emulator. For some baffling reason, they made it impossible (in the main story) to get anything that was introduced outside of generation 1, so don't get an Onix expecting a Steelix or a Zubat in hopes of a Crobat.

The guards at the Saffron gate want Tea, not the generic fresh water you can get at the Celadon store.
I got stuck there as a kid, because it was a weird change.

Sadly not. At least in the main game, it just means you cant get Alakazam, Machamp, Golem or Gengar, but the game is beatable without them

Hell, Kadabra still has decent firepower for a middle evo

Nigga just use whatever you want, a vanilla fire red is the nost braindead shit that you can do it. I remember only using ny initial and beating it as a child.

Also as a mechanic I think megas are quite shit tbh, it is literally press a button to activate and win and faster pokemon greatly benefit from it. Instead of megas we should have more regional variabts that at least bring in new flair to the pokemon instead of adding more spikes and protuberances to megas. Also unique mega stones fucking sucks.

I played some more Unbound yesterday and it is funny how lost I am, but I finally found the gym that appears like there ia no specific type in a gigantic manor.

A lot of people are complaining about GO Tour: Unova's global event being garbage for a mutiple reasons.
  • No boosted Shiny Rate outside of certain Pokémon (Go Tour: Sinnoh technically had the same issue but it was slightly fixed by a large amount of Pokémon having already-boosted Shiny odds)
  • Kyurem's catch rate being abnormally low.
  • Low spawn rates for certain wild Pokémon, most notably those that were a part of the Tour Pass's bonus missions.
  • No additional raid passes outside of the one free pass you get daily, even the paid ticket only yields one additional free raid pass per day.
Upon retrospect I really should've done a better job of taking part in the in-person event (and possibly spending some scratch on Super Incubators), maybe then my Shiny count for the in-person event wouldn't be 10 Pokémon away from the global version. Oh well, I'll just log this as a lesson in how to handle GO Tour: Kalos next year.
I wish GF would make a pet simulator Pokémon game like Nintendogs with the main appeal/premise being taking care of 1-6 Pokémon in a more personal manner.
So basically an expanded version of Pokémon Amie and Pokémon Refresh?

I love how the only good gimmick (megas) gets shit on for being only "spikes" when the megas from ORAS exists. Or being broken/op like all the other gimmicks aren't just press A to win (except this time you're big, use a weird move, or get a tacky hat) I think megas would be much better as a gimmick if they stuck with it and bothered to balance it more. And plus unique temp evolutions is much more creative and opens up the possibility for cool designs.

I am well aware that people consider terra forms as "the best" or something, but like man I really can't be assed to use such a tacky and ugly gimmick even if it is "good"

Edit: they could continue to do the approach to gimmicks they did in sun/moon/us/um where they have megas but also the "new" gimmick. So you can use whichever gimmick you like more. Idk might be a bit more work for them and we all know how lazy GF/TPC is

I'm almost sure this should be enough for the elite 4, if you were wondering wgat doodoofart is holding he is holding a quick claw. Thanks to everyone who responded I didn't know the game was really fucking easy, only reason I thought it was hard is because grinding low level pokemon is a bitch, only remedy I have found is using the daycare. I was curious about evolving pokemon because I wanted to fill out the pokedex completely, it's seems from the replys I have read it doesn't seem feasible so I might just have to move on to pokemon emerald, anyone have any suggestions for that one? I don't know im just trying to find pokemon game that isn't too unvanilla where I can catch everything and not have to worry to much about reading shit online to finish it. Also ignore my obscenely autistic names I chose.

I mean, they sorta did back in the N64 Days, but Hey You Pikachu wasn’t exactly quality, outside the gimmick to sell the VCU.

How much of that was limitations of the tech I can’t say, but that game being received as “Mixed” back when that didn’t mean “the cheque didn’t clear” might’ve put Gamefreak off of trying something similar, regardless of if it was developed third party or not.

Catching everything in one game is mostly unfeasible without mods, the games always have version exclusives so not even that regional pokedex is available in one game

Closest thing to vanilla with 99% of the pokedex available out of the box is Pokemon Legends Arceus

You can try romhacks that let you evolve these Pokemon in-game. Other than that, you can use Trigger's PC app to evolve these Pokemon right there and then in-app. I highly recommend it either way as it acts like a PokeBank for Gen 3, letting you see your hidden stats(IVs and EVs), transfer items/Pokemon/Money ect. between saves and much more. I can't imagine playing any Gen 3 game without it anymore.

Speaking of Fire Red, I got to Sevii Islands in FRR. Bad news here is that there are no new encounters on One-Three Island, these are the only parts of the game so far that have only their Kantonian counterparts. Well, sort of, There is an Entei roaming around in Mt. Ember like with the other two Legendary Bird/Dog locations, there is a Jiraichi in Berry Forest and Celebii is supposed to be there somewhere as well, probably in Berry Forest too. I've also gotten a hint that Mew might be here somewhere, altho I can't confirm if this is true right now. Would definitely fit with the theme of giving you access to Mythicals after getting the seventh badge.

I wish that they'd just bring back the petting & cleaning thing that Gen 7 took from Gen 6's Pokemon-Amie and improved upon.
They already had the system. The Switch still has a touch screen. Just take out the game-breaking bonuses and it'd be fine.

Let me brush off the dust from the attack that my Leafeon just took and then scritch his chin and listen to him trill happily.

While I wholeheartedly agree, Pokemon Go is cucking me out of regional evolutions. And because of that, I don't want more until Go resolves its bullshittery.

On the one hand: five free genesects from the raid glitch. On the other: all of this bullshit.
No boosted shiny rage was so stupid. I feel like if they're going to do confetti, they should boost the shiny rate.

You can still do a lot with a city if you make the city dense and the game really quest-focused. Think of Fallout: New Vegas, or Cyberpunk 2077, or Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. Those games are more or less confined to a single city, and they all work because they're more about getting involved in intriguing plots and quests and side stories and other characters' lives than they are about raw exploration.

I'm not saying that GF will make a game like that, but they could.
Man, now I want a pokémon themed immersive sim. Imagine the potential for problem solving depending of the types of mons you have or the kind of ways you find and solve quest in a map like Prague in DX MD. Too bad GF is too incompetent to make something as complex as that, even if that could single-handedly revive the imsim genre in the AAA space.

Lol those names, is your rival's name ASS?
Anyway, only recently saw the new Pokemon game trailer and I remembered this thread. Wasn't two steps back, nor one step forward, more like dancing in a circle.
What is your favorite Pokémon based memory?
What is the reason you hold Pokémon so dearly to your heart through adulthood?
Helping my brother capture the roaming Pokemon in FireRed. Also my least favorite...
I used to hold it dearly, then Iwata died and shit went south fast. My memory fails me more as I grow older but I remember being sucidally depressed from various unrelated issues and having awful pets forced upon me by my Mother among other things, so playing a game where I can have cool animal companions by my side in a world where I mattered to a degree will never leave me. Womp womp. Reading other people's answers was nice though.
