I got 13 shinies and five had sunglasses and I only had to reset the game maybe 40 times.

Before reading this post today, I did wonder why there were so many Squirtles out today, I should pay more attention to those new prompts!
 
I really just got back into Go about a week ago, but I’ve been enjoying it so far. Reminds me of when it first came out and I played it.

My job is by like 5 hotspots and a gym on one small block, so there were a ton of people running around for the Swuirtlw thing. I was lucky and managed to catch enough Squitles to evolve one into a Blastoise in an hour.

Niantic only recently got any better at communicating events. It used to be there were rarely events and they would often not show the in game prompt until a day or two after the event began or ended.. no joke.
Since earlier this year they have been kicking butt at releasing a steady stream of interesting events and rewards, and actually communicating the events before they happen. Every month has a community day, like today's squirtle day. Next month will probably be a much rarer Pokemon than squirtle based on the trends from the last few months.
What wasn't really mentioned in this thread was yesterday's Articuno day which was actually a really fun event, and a new thing they were trying. Basically every single gym had an articuno raid with a 3 hour timer on it, and there's a chance to get a shiny articuno. They also gave everyone 5 free raid passes.
I saw a TON of people come out for this event. I'm on a local discord channel for area players so there was some coordination there, but I also found a lot of random people at these raids. Big groups of people basically went from gym to gym bashing Articunos, catching it, and moving on, for three hours. It was hectic and a lot of fun. Most people I know bought passes after using their 5 so I imagine it was a financial success and they'll do this in the future with other legendaries. I really wanted the shiny and didn't get it, but I already have an Articuno I invested some dust and candy into so more candies for it is great.

I played this game at launch, stopped for awhile around gen 2, and got back into last summer when raids were released. I'm almost level 40 now. Hype right now is the biggest it's been since the first month of the game. I keep running into new players and seeing new players in gyms. A bunch of my boyfriend's coworkers started playing again and had the same experience a couple of community days ago wondering why there were so many charmanders everywhere.
For returning players, if you live in a large population area, try to find if there is a discord server. People will organize raids there and post if stops have special quests, like hatch 5 eggs for a Chansey encounter. People always say "who still plays this game?" but actually a lot of people still play, it's just not as obvious as when it first came out.

the pokemon that will pop up more frequently will be beldum. beldum is a very rare pokemon in pokemon go. this is an opportunity you shouldn't miss
 
Since it's gotten cooler I am finally able to play Pokemon without fucking melting irl. I'm super excited, I kove going for long walks around town and fighting raids and shit
 
So uh..... Caught three shiny Pinsir today

They were literally everywhere for me (though I was going somewhere), there were so many I thought there was an event. I expected to get the one because of how many there were but I'm insanely surprised I got the other two because after the first I didn't really try.

hmm.... it couldn't have been an event. im gonna guess they popped up because of a certain area you went to.

i'm talking about nests. an area where one pokemon spawns more frequently

I mean.... Unless a single nest spanned like 50 miles then sure.
