You’ll end up with lag and questionable video quality unless you pay a shitload of money, find RGB cables for the PS2 and use a scan converter.

Good quality component cables work great.

Tried one of those cheap upscalers because I got a component cable without the sound stuff. Thing couldn't display any colors but black and white. It also made horrific screeching sounds. Don't get a cheap one unless you want to make Silent Hill games scarier.
sounds like you plugged component cables into a composite upscaler, because that's exactly what happens (b/w image and garbled sound)

They really are great, like night and day compared to the regular av cables. Unfortunately with the ones I have the image has become flickery which I've heard is a common problem with these. Do you have a recomdation for good component cables?
No bullshit, but the deluxe Sony ones that they branded for the PS3 are excellent, as are the Monster Cable ones, and the high-end ones Interact made. The important thing is to get ones with good shielding, as that ghosting is caused by crosstalk, and generic cables tend to have shitty shielding, if they have any. The only problem is the good cables are getting scarce and pricey. I lucked out with the PS3 cables because Blockbuster clearanced out all Sony accessories when the packaging changed for the PS3 Slim. Last set of the Sony cables I saw was on Amazon, $50 US from a third-party.
