Personally I think at this point a good percentage of Pizzagaters online are under 14 years old who base their knowledge of the world off of Saturday morning cartoons, and the remaining ones are just kooky Alex Jones fans who like most political extremists do just have a simplistic black/white view of the world, where "the bad guys" are basically just like comic book villains who have no motive other than just to "be evil".

Most conspiracy theories work like this. Like the one conspiracy where random directional signage arrows (like the ones in the parking lot at the mall) are a code for where the FEMA camps are (or something like that at least). Conspiracy theorists live in a world where the secrets of the universe are hidden in plain sight where everyday normal people are too dumb to notice them. Everything is something nefarious.

You have to be exceptional to believe in most conspiracies.

That, and they don't just stop at one conspiracy, they think everything is a conspiracy, not just Pizza Gate, but 9/11, the Holocaust, Sandy Hook, Boston Bombing, etc etc - which is a pretty obvious sign to normal people that it's just a case of them being paranoid and delusional.

That's basically how the entire Pizzagate scandal devolved too, it went from one guy who runs a pizza shop allegedly being a pedo, to anyone and everyone in the media who's ever mentioned anything related to pizza being part of some worldwide conspiracy.

By their logic, then anyone and everyone who's ever mentioned anything related to "bears" is a pedophile because "Pedobear" meme. So now it's obvious that "Smokey the Bear", the Care Bears, Baloo the Bear, etc are obviously some type of covert pedophile propaganda.
