For one its the speed, my downloads are only limited by the bandwidth that my VPN connection can manage which is usually 1Gb/s. When it comes to takedowns, everything on usenet is served as split archives which your client assembles at the end. There is also par2 which allows for some of the archive parts to be missing and as long as enough of the download exists you can still complete the download. Finally, you can use different usenet providers located on different backbones so if provider A has a few parts DMCAd provider B may still be able to serve them to you. The way most people that do this is to have a subscription to one or two of the big backbones and pay for one off block accounts (x$ for yTB) on others. Below is what I've pulled down since April. The first 3 are subscriptions (although easynews is free with eweka) and the last 2 are blocks that I bought years ago.I need to get into usenet. What exactly makes it so much better? I mean, apparently it's not seeding... but then how is it they can't just take it down?
Its also worth mentioning that having usenet provider access is only one part, you also need indexers. Files on usenet have random names so the indexers are needed to be able to search normally for whatever you want to download. The image below shows how the files are named.
If you decide to go the usenet route, hang fire until next month when the Black Friday deals start, its by far the best time of year to get into it.
