Here from the ad, has there been any discussion on the superiority of Usenet?

I just switched to that and holy shit is this so much better. The lack of headache of shitty torrents with no private trackers is worth $10.
I've used Usenet on and off for the past 20 years or so. BITD my ISP had its own newsgroup server with many of the alt.binaries groups. Not always as reliable as paid service, but good enough.

Once that was shut down, I'd subscribe to a news provider for a month here and there, but I didn't really find much to download that I couldn't find via other sources.

It absolutely has merit if I were living somewhere where fiber is available and if I were just a little more active in sailing the high seas. But yes, if your weapon of choice is newsgroups, you're definitely winning in the piracy master race.
Thoughts on just going to MicroCenter and getting suggestions? Like I said, I have to be very sneaky with my piracy and the resident IT guy won't help.
You're overthinking this.

Just buy yourself a portable HDD and watch stuff using VLC on your computer, or via the USB port on your TV if it has one. The only caveat with the latter being that you could struggle to play h.265 / x265 encoded files.

I've been doing that for the best part of 15 years because I'm too lazy to set up a Plex or Jellyfin server.

Search: [ _dmd == vertical view | LH_BIN == Buy it now | _sop15 == price low to high | _ipg=240 == 240 listings | _pgn=1 == Page number 1 ]

182085 is hard drive area. You can put anything in _nkw which is search terms, Change 4tb to 6tb and you'll see how it starts with new basically.

Depends if you want new or not. If yes I'd probably get the 6tb if needed right now since $50.00 more than 4tb, but is over $200.00 by $20.00

Otherwise I'd wait and just see how they play off one another. At least till start of next week, as going into weekend, and / or hope for new listings to pop up while checking
6TB starts off with new basically. 4TB starts used then new at $170.00, and checked 2TB to compare against 4TB. Didn't do 1 to 2 though, and 8tb I think still requires a brick.
Don't mind ghetto then WD Gold SATA 4TB was $70.00 I think. They also make SAS adapters now too which were $35.00 last I checked but then another $7.00 for power adapter.
SAS can handle SATA, but not other way around

2TB
$75.00 == https://www.ebay.com/itm/366347437120 // 58 hours / SMART included
$95.00 == https://www.ebay.com/itm/318615621858 // open-box / new

4TB
$114.00 == https://www.ebay.com/itm/820107475373 // Looks clean has 3k
$120.00 == https://www.ebay.com/itm/128080955137 // Has SMART / Low power cycle but High power on hours
$170.00 == https://www.ebay.com/itm/158194668586 // New

6TB
$220.00 == https://www.ebay.com/itm/237067927555 // New

Edit: Should add this was WD only, but Toshiba makes portables too. There's also SSD portable if don't mind 1TB | 2TB to gauge where it's at in relation to this shitshow

What I would recommend is getting the most bang-for-the-buck HDD along with some second-hand cheap-ass Dell Optiplex or something. That's what I do. If you don't want to be technical in the slightest, get a external HDD with a USB connection and just put mp4's onto it for maximum compatibility.

Some of the people in this thread are borderline autistic about how they pirate shit and the devices they use to play media. A laptop with a USB drive using VLC to play files hooked up to the TV using the HDMI port will work fine for 99% of people. The point of piracy is to generally spend less money.

I, too, put of setting up a Plex server for years. However, once I finally did, I was amazed by how fast and easy the set-up process was. If you already have your media on a drive and are capable of reading basic directions, it should be a piece of cake. All you'd need is attach it to a Pi or similar and run a few commands.

I use a bunch of old components I had laying around, the only thing I bought new was the HDD at 100-something dollars for 8TB, 'member those prices? - I also pay for streaming services to pirate the shit out of content I can't get anywhere else, if you count that. But I'm fine paying a few bucks so that others don't have to spend any.

I have a Jellyfin + Seerr + *arr stack that I share with my family, running off my old desktop under my desk. It works great.

Yeah, works great until luddite dad asks "so where's the remote on this thing and where's the channel guide?"

I'm autistic to point made. Buy under $6.50/TB. Maybe too much info intimidated. Don't know, and don't care.
Gave what was asked [ portable 4TB less than $200.00 ], said I'd wait to see, and showed how to find more / similar.
Your help was greatly appreciated. My technological knowhow is at the level of "depends entirely on PCPartsPicker when upgrading her PC". That site is a godsend for people like me.

DenuvOwO has supposedly disbanded following Voices38's lawsuit. Their games were also removed from CS RIN.

I wonder if the link removal is related to them disbanding or part of the global cs.rin.ru link filtering/banning. They have that 'malicious ads' warning on most/all of the file hoster links, directing you to the PSA/notice about how they are all participating in pay-per-install malware campaigns.

I feel like it may just be a case of, the group is definitively no longer active so they/'we' can no longer vouch for the integrity of links to stuff provided by the group

I thought so, but bzzhr seems to just be a proxy for buzzheavier and they have been around for longer than the DenuvOwO (fuck that is gay) group has been around. Oh well. I tend to not fuck with games that have Denuvo.

And I meant no disrespect to you to you specifically. There's nothing wrong with being particular about your setup if that's what you enjoy doing. It was just part of a larger conversation about young Mr. Flutter feeling intimidated and telling him he probably doesn't need to worry about it.

Did this for a long time. Like from 2013 to 2018. I'd just download what I wanted to watch and transfer it to where I needed, but the thing I liked about plex (obligatory plex is enshitifying do not give them money now go with jellyfin instead) is how I just boot it up and watch. And this evolved into endlessly collecting stuff.

If you want my opinion, the best solution for a media box is, when you upgrade your gaming PC, use the old parts. It helped I originally went with a fractal define r4, so I got a ton of HDD bays.
Before you expand too big in HDD storage, get a commercially available nas. If you are feelign adventerous, build one yourself. But I, as much as I like tinkering, don't feel like constantly fixing broken linux issues (as a mostly windows user).
So I plan to get an 8 bay nas once I upgrade my gaming PC again (because I'm at that time, so that's got priority) and start buying 20tb HDDs instead of 16tbs I've been going for, and go with like raid 6. This way 2 drives can die on me and I still lose nothing. Right now I've got 96tb of unprotected non-redundant data. But YOLO I guess.

I can just redownload, it's not *that* big a deal to me.
Same, very little of my data is something I cannot replace if a drive fails. So I just throw all my drives into a mergeRFS pool so if one does fail I only lose 1/6 of my files and not 1/6 of every file.

My problem is, while most of it I can reaquire... god that would suck.
Just recently passed 200k library items. Yeah, I don't feel like recovering any of that. And some of it is from sources that may no longer exist. For example, I have 40 episodes of Live PD from a pirate streaming site that no longer exists. You could literally just right click and save as too.
Finding full unedited live PD episodes is a pain.
