there's an argument that dumb shit you do as a dumb kid shouldn't stay around forever. of course it would be much easier to not put it on the internet in the first place, but kids are hardly ever smart....

also with "hole" and "memory" there's a joke somewhere, but I'm not drunk enough to put in an eloquent form.
When he said "every child deserves a memory hole", he wasn't talking about literal children. He was trying to e poetic in his phrasing and "children" refers to "God's children". He clarified this after I explained that the people wanting their misdeeds erased are grown adults confessing to grooming children.

I agree that there should be some grace when it comes to children. While you're legally an adult on your 18th birthday, I think that grace should last until you actually graduate high school and enter the real world in some capacity (something Think Before You Sleep and I heavily disagree on and one of the reasons I stopped watching him).

Yeah he's still wrong, even in the theological sense. Not even God "erases" your sins. He forgives them, which is an important distinction. I will agree for most (but not all) types of crimes, a person should have a chance to repay his debt to society for it and attempt genuine reform, and if a person has done so to society's satisfaction, be allowed to rejoin society and participate again without that past crime forever being held over his head. That does not mean it should simply be "forgotten" so a person can no longer make an informed decision about the former criminal. A bank manager has every right to know that the assistant he's interviewing robbed a bank 20 years ago even if he repaid the stolen amount in full, served a prison term and has had a clean record ever since. To pretend otherwise is folly (and begging for more bank robberies).

And sex crimes are off the "forgiveness" table too. Once a pervert, always a pervert. People who try to argue "hey he only got caught jerking it in the janitor's closet 20 years ago adjacent to the girl's locker room, he's paid his debt to society so we should totally let him be a gymnastics-focused physician for the local junior high school now!" belong six feet under right alongside the deviants they defend.

He's an atheist who spends a lot of time at church and around church people because he works AV at one. Like I said, he was just being poetic in his phrasing.
An atheist should have even less reason to want to erase history (since historical analysis is delightfully effective in debunking the actual supernatural assertions made by every religion on earth, and plenty of them, from Islam to Scientology would love nothing more than to be able to fully and properly purge or rewrite their early histories to their benefit), but atheists gave up rational thought about two decades ago with the advent of that "Atheism+" horseshit, so that's probably a lost cause to argue too.

He's 69yo, nowhere near as chronically online as you or I, and a bit naive/optimistic when it comes to internet culture. He genuinely believed MisterBeast was AI and asked for proof that he was a real person. My proof? The absolute mountain of legal shit he's gotten himself into. He eschews the healthy mindset of "not everything on the internet is real" for "nothing on the internet is real (unless he finds it himself)".

Buddy, fun is fun, but you're telling people way too much about your personal life here. Don't be so trusting of people on the Internet.

Man, I'm tired of the anime streaming hop-scotch game. I want to try and download the videos off of them more than just streaming anymore.

New hard drive is here. Will inevitably be back to this thread at some point because my resident IT guy refuses to help with anything piracy-related and I am out of my depths with anything past using qBittorrent.
You can get another gig or two of storage if you put a rare earth magnet on top of it.

This has a name. It's called forced sector expansion or fse. The magnets stretch out the sectors on the disk and allow for more storage per sector. If you heat it in the microwave, the heat has a similar effect. Usually the gains are marginal, but with a really big drive, say 2TB+, you can get multiple gigs of extra storage out of it.

People used to do it a lot with those low density floppies back in the 80s to get an extra kilobyte or two of storage.

@My cravat doesn't flutter just FYI these are both (totes "innocent joking" I'm sure) attempts to get you to destroy your equipment with bad advice.

May both your porn collections suffer endless bit rot.

There's another new technology in use as well, it's called HAMR. "Heat-Assisted Magnetic Recording" so, what you need to do is get the drive closer to the curie point to make it easier to flip the bits so you can store more. Wire up your drive with heat resistant wire and put it in the oven at 500F. Fire it up and it should recognize the new temperature and unlock about 10% more storage.

I see someone suggested the microwave, I prefer the oven as it tends to be more consistent.

Should I place it directly on the oven rack or would a baking sheet be better?

There's another proven method for expanding capacity that doesn't get talked about enough: bovine-assisted biomechanical enhancement. You take a fresh layer of cow manure and carefully spread it across the drive platters (or just the exterior if you're risk-averse). The organic compounds and residual heat from the manure lower the coercivity of the magnetic domains just enough that the heads can write denser bit patterns. For maximum effect, submerge the whole drive overnight in a warm organic curry bath. The extra heat allows it to penetrate deep into the imperfections of the magnets and organic compounds supercharge the process. When you pull it out you should see up to a 1000% increase in storage capacity and a 1500% boost in speed.

Please stop spreading misinformation for @My cravat doesn't flutter. The lad is a bit simple, he believes everything he sees. So please only provide him accurate information, like I do.

If you actually want to increase your storage there are only two ways to really do this legitimately, first is buying either secondhand or new from reputable sellers such as Newegg or other legitimate sellers. Amazon, Aliexpress and the likes are all independent sellers on the same platform. Secondly, if you want to increase storage is by downloading more from the internet. This works on the same principle as the Torrent file-sharing algorithm. Where people offer their own bandwidth to share parts of a file with you to ultimately provide you the entire file; in the same way, people offer a small amount of their disk space to you and you in return get a massive amount back. Seeders of the Radish storage-sharing algorithm only need to share as little as a gigabyte to others in order to gain up to an entire terabyte in shared storage. An open-sourced program for the Radish programs are few-and-far between, but an example is ramDownloader. It supports all operating systems because the Radish client is negotiable and automatically converts NTFS into EXT4 and MAC-filesystems and vice versa. Like bitcoin, the more people partake in the Radish program, the lesser your ratio has to be with seeding-to-leeching ratio, thus gaining more by inviting others.

If this Radish thing is real then it sounds like an easy way to get CP put on your PC.
