Blue lights are often used so that addicts can't find a vein to shoot into. If pills weren't his drug of choice I'd say he looks like he was put somewhere for his own protection.

A while later, gunt realizes he can't go to cancun tonight because he has to go see his son. It is extremely funny to him that his son is an after thought.
