I once took a break from wearing earrings and my holes closed absurdly fast. Decided to get my ears re-pierced for my birthday this year, and while they're regular old lobe piercings, I do like a lot of the different types and find them attractive on men. Always found ear gauges ugly though. I remember some kids in my high school made DIY gauges with cut-off pieces of drinking straws and, surprise surprise, one idiot ended up getting an infection.

I'd get a couple more but I'm not sure what kind, probably still on my ears.
We used these plastic knitting neddles.

In like 2006 it was kinda impossible to actually find any places that sold stretchers and the ones we could get only went up to like 5mm so like good for starting the hole but not for making it bigly.
of course once you got to like 1cm or so it was pretty unsafe to strech but did not really stop us, I'm surprised none of us ripped our ears or had any blowouts.

Hello women
please fucking stop with the nose and septum piercings.
please just don't, they look stupid, every other woman seems to have one and it does not look better on them either and won't look good on you.

The only acceptable facial piercing for a woman is the Medusa and thats only if you can pull off the alt look without looking like you have an onlyfans.
The medusa should be renamed the Fellatio Ender.

Also have seen others talk about paying people to not hurt you of course the shit hurts you are putting a hole in your body. You can safely do it yourself with a safety pin, but a professional or even a friend or assistant may have a better eye for the target than yourself with a mirror.

Also dermals are a waste they do not even look that good and will cause issues and fall out.

Not only that but they scar really bad, even if you are not prone to scaring they will scar.

With pretty much every other piecing you will just have small holes where they used to be but dermals scar and grow out super fast.
Both of these doubly so for bridge piercings, the holes on them are not easy to ignore unlike lips or belly button.

As a former nipple piercer haver, I had mine for almost a decade, they never really seemed to completely heal. I'd have good days and bad. It also doesn't help that nipples are a bundle of nerves and for some odd reason, your mental state seems to really play a part in the stability of them. After my anxiety went into overdrive for a few years, I decided to retire them, again. (They hurt more after the second time you get them done)

Also, prince alberts are the most annoying heal since you need to remain flaccid for atleast a week to allow the scab to form and heal.

(Was part and had several acquaintances in the body mod community, now I just provide others with answers)

How often do you guys see spider bite piercings? I got mine done as a teenager + have had many other types piercings done since then, but I don't usually see this specific one too often at all. Random Google pic for reference:

Not so common anymore.
Ones like that?
I saw majority around 2006 - 2010 when I was a teenager. Haven't really seen them since

I remember when we were in our early 20s my friend had snake bites. I thought they were so damn neat until she told me that after doing this particular deed, her boyfriend’s spunk would leak out the holes and it still, to this day, makes me squirm a little 🤢

I think I got mine done in 2014? I was definitely tardy to the party, I could count on one hand the number of people I've seen with this same piercing in the last decade

This has never happened to me despite having multiple lip piercings, and I literally hope it never does.

Love this set up but I know it's not for me with my anatomy:

Now for horror:

So this is simply beautiful but it's also my piercing nightmare:
RIP to my 10 gem panaraya | Archive, because who wants to be mentioned at kf?
This is the sort of thing that's in the back of my mind when I look at some of the gorgeous, gem studded solid gold jewelry that's available for non-traditional piercings these days. Spending a giant wad of cash on a piece that has to be placed just so (even requiring new piercings just to accommodate it) and the jewelry breaking or my ear not being able to withstand it. It makes me grateful that I can just wear mystery metal junk from Claire's, but also a bit sad that I'll never be able to wear actually nice stuff without this sort of fear in the back of my mind.

Some of those sub-dermal implant body mods are cool (yes, yes, I know), but I can't help but wonder how you get those horns and then deal with needing to wear a hat in winter. They'd probably get chapped or hurt a lot in the cold.

So I've heard that some piercings actually do legitimately help for migraines, but what about other types of headaches?

Going to call bullshit on that. A daith or other hole in your ear will do less for your headaches than sticking to a better diet, getting some exercise, staying hydrated, getting enough sleep, not overdoing it on the coffee, and managing your stress effectively. Plus a daith can get in the way of anything you need to stick in your ear. If you feel you need an alt med way to deal, maybe try herbal teas (hydration), meditation (relaxation) and gossiping about lolcows (stress relief).

And see a doctor for chronic headaches. Sometimes there's underlying health issues you need to deal with more than you need a piercing.

I’ve been trying to get more metal on my ears some piercings I like
Flats are so cute I heard they hurt less than a helix does but I don’t have any good needles now.

I also want these piercings they are similar to an industrial. I wouldn’t get an industrial I’ve had friends get it done professionally and their ear got such bad keloids on it IMG_2159.jpeg
I know these ones hurt I don’t know how bad though.
I like these too

They are not keloids, they are piercing bumps. Keloids are a type of fucked up scar tissue, which most people are not prone to. Piercing bumps are a reaction to irritation, which can happen to anyone. That being said, piercing bumps do not care if your piercing was done professionally. They will happen if you do not know how to treat your piercing well or if you just got unlucky and snagged it. Snagging industrials is a common experience, but more commonly, people just don't research how to take care of them and don't follow up with their piercer for downsizing.

My industrial was considerably less fussy than my helixes. Helixes, if you get them done all at once, they will make for one really big irritated site, which will require longer piercing posts to begin with, which will imply a lot of downsizing. The biggest issue with industrials, given that you have looked into piercing care, is how unwieldy they are - they need really good placement in order to not press on your ear tissue; that's why they need a REALLY good piercer.
I know these ones hurt I don’t know how bad though.
Pain is relative. Cartilage piercings are only like a 6/10 on the pain scale for me, while lip/nose piercings are the most painful. You basically won't know until you try.

Thank you for clearing it up for me industrials are a high maintenance piercings I’ve heard. I think they’re pretty but I don’t know if I could keep up with after care. What would you rate the pain of the industrial ? I’m assuming the vertical helix might feel the same but I’m not sure.

They are basically just a forward helix + a helix, so the initial pain would be the same as any other helix. To me, getting pierced hurt less (like a 6/10?) than the first week or so of healing (7/10?). I remember my industrial made my ear feel like it was constantly being pinched for a few days. I am personally used to that sort of discomfort due to having had quite a few piercings atp, but I could imagine someone else finding it to be really distracting. If you have generally low pain tolerance and really want an industrial, I would imagine that it would help to make sure that you have nothing really important to do during the initial healing process.

The worst part of cartilage piercings is their itchiness, least in my experience. They can get insanely itchy during the first few months of healing (feels like a constant mosquito bite). And, ofc, you can't scratch them at all. Maybe your body would react differently, though.

I highly suggest getting one helix done to begin with so that you know how your body will react and how tiring you will find their upkeep. You could then proceed to get one of the set-ups you've shown or get an industrial on the other ear. I have a friend who got one helix done and got so annoyed with it that they decided to never get another(:_(

More or less why I never got all the piercings I wanted. It was such a mess to heal. Maybe things would be easier now with newer kinds of jewellery that are less likely to get snagged or pulled, but it just took so, so, so long to heal that it'll probably never happen at this point.
