What is the large symbol/letter in the first cityscape photo?

edit: also love the night sky large tower

I think that's just one of those architectural protuberances (not sure of the exact term) that they put at the corners near the top of skyscrapers.

You can see those corner architectural thingamajigs just below the spire of Taipei 101.

They're probably based off of the Ruyi symbols that you can see in the center of each section in the picture sasazuka posted.
