I am convinced Sakana does Phase Connect stuff more as a hobby instead of actively trying to turn it into a profitable buisness, which probably is the reason why Phase has much more sovl than other corpos.

IIRC this is kind of it. Sakana's a rich guy and originally planned on simply investing in a (unknown) vtuber corporation. When they told him to sod off, he did the "I'll make my own Marine vtuber company with blackjack and hookers" and the rest was history.
