I think there are overall three types/causes of pedophilia. Mental underdevelopment, escalation and sadism/"psychopathy".
The first kind are retarded, literally. The textbook case of this are the "mentally disabled people who feel better related to kids" but it doesn't have to be that extreme. A lot of pedophiles in this category are functional in everyday life, may seem average or high IQ but are still socially retarded. They are so socially retarded that they are unable to understand consent and why their actions are wrong. They also have low impulse control and low empathy like other tards, so they literally cannot stop and think "hey, how would I feel if I was in this kid's situation". In rural areas this was the village retard who jumped fences to fuck goats, and in modern cities this is the weird autistic dude who has no friends and spends all his time online jerking it to MLP or some shit. This kind of pedos are the ones who make up stories about how they and the kid were in love. They're actually just retarded.
The second type are the prototypical rich guy pedophiles. That seemingly well-adjusted married man with kids who gets busted with CSAM one day? That's one of them. There is something about men who are comfortable and have achieved everything that makes them more likely to fall into degeneracy, some kind of boredom with life that translates into weird fetishes. Centuries ago you'd have stories about how the aristocracy was more sexually degenerate than average people, but thanks to the 21st century lifestyle the aristocracy is now the average person in the West. They get bored with normal porn and sex and start seeking out more "taboo" which eventually culminates in pedophilia because it's the most taboo thing possible. The scary part is how this is getting more and more common because online porn desensitizes people. In the worst cases there is overlap with the third type because the escalation leads them to the most taboo (sadistic) CSAM they can find. Child trafficking is getting worse worldwide because these degenerates are creating the demand.

The media talks the most about them because they're scary but they're actually a minority. The whole "pedo vampire" theory is based off them because there is a link (albeit not too big) between sexual sadism at this scale and early childhood abuse.
