Oh if you really want to go down a rabbit hole with that kind of shit, head over to the Library of Congress and look for the terms "6,000,000" and "Jews." All throughout history there's dozens and dozens of examples of exactly 6,000,000 Jews getting caught up in one thing or another, from 1869-1933, putting some of these examples well out of the range of WWII, or outside of the time where Hitler had even been fucking born.

I don't know what to make of that shit because there's too many conspiracy theorists wedging their asses through the door for me to make any sense of it, but it's definitely something that made me raise my eyebrows somewhere around the 50th time that that specific number came up.

It’s just a easy reference point to the general population of Jewish communities in Europe. Prior to WWII, most communities were segregated by religion, so it was easy to do census counts.
