Allegedly leaked on their forums. Looks like post-apocalypse.
Edit: oops. Bring in the clocks.

Some more from the leak per the Paradox forums. Clearly destined to be a blockbuster and definitely not dead on arrival :story:

Paradox has a hard time doing anything good with their long standing IPs for years now, making a whole new IP on top of that is going to be a disaster. Like @General Emílio Médici said it's going to be the ATE version of what Star Trex Infinite was to Stellaris.
Wonder if it'll take longer than 2 months before they abandon it this time, gotta milk the only 4 franchises+one game that managed to survive this long because everything else is falling apart or clearly ain't cutting it.

Lost it at St. Boniface finds your tree.

Edit:
So Chinese Imperialism government is pretty frickin sweet. The ability to own cities is huge, and the elimination of opinion penalties for religious differences and wrong government type seems extremely OP. Almost all of my subjects now immediately love me. No longer able to request conversion, but does that even matter without opinion penalties? If i'm not mistaken, I can also freely convert between religions with no penalty now other than the piety cost. (Edit 2: even foreign rulers no longer have a different religion opinion penalty against me. They DO however still have the "false religion: ----------" effect when considering vassalisation). Also a nice +1.00 boost to piety, just when I needed more of it to wage Great Conquest CB on the remaining Umayyad presence in North Africa.

I don't know why it has named my title "Dai Empire". It says it adopts the temple naming convention? Why "Dai"?

It says that it disables elective succession, yet I still have open succession due to being Muslim, and that's pretty much an elective succession when you know how it works. I assume it will revert to primogeniture if I convert to a different religion. I wonder if heir designation from Taoism, Buddhism etc. still works, once again probably not technically being elective as far as the game is concerned.

What an odd thing to say.

The proper Chinese Emperor has been of Jurchen culture the last 100 years, and before that it was a Khitan culture dynasty since the 9th century. Considering this, my new end goal is placing one of my dynasty members on the throne to restore Han rule, creating the Great East and West Han Chinese Zhou (Dai?) alliance.

If they get added to EU5, I'll take it as a sign PDX has given up on creating interesting systems.
Paradox did this with Victoria 3 as well.

They tried to create a game where the systems would stand on their own. However, there are simply too many historical "idiosyncrasies" in history for it to work out.

France is the best example of this. They stacked 50 administration buildings in Paris to make it really liberal. You can either focus all of your development into Paris to compensate for this or dismantle the buildings and disperse them across the country to actually get taxation bonuses everywhere. If you play well the historical outcome just doesn't happen.

This was after the blank slate era when they started giving countries special events,, but even with that the core mechanics threw things wildly off track. The "historical" route of stacking immigration and industry bonuses in Paris to actually use those admin buildings resulted in the city ballooning to 10 million people. During the Paris Commune the French military ended up killing 500,000 communists (the event kills 5% of Paris).

If they had actually licensed Fallout or Mad Max there probably would be some interest.
I believe the 'anything goes' approach is more beneficial. Chainning a possible new IP on an already stablished franchise might limit development too much.

I'm not touching this shit LOL
It's like they looked at Victoria 3 and thought how much fun it would be to convert Frostpunk 2 into it while giving it a Fallout coat of paint. The UI design in particular is more of Paradox's mobile slop which is aggravating to look at, and limiting it to North America shows where they're planning for DLC. Those mechanics too already look a mile wide and inch deep with next to no replay value given the procedural generation of both empire and map. Sad thing it will still probably sell enough among the usual suspects to let Paradox pretend it's a success.

This shit is going to be DoA.

EDIT: I'm fully onboard of making games easy to get into, but God, GSG are meant to have a bit of learning curve, it's a strategy game. Read this excerpt from the Steam page.

Accessible, with Growing Depth - Afterworld aims to be the easiest GSG to pick up and get immersed in, without sacrificing complexity or depth. We do this by tying many mechanics to exploration and discovery so that they get progressively unlocked for a deeper and deeper game without overwhelming you during the first 10 minutes.
