They removed cards unbound and there's a new director. The new system looks pretty fun compared to the previous 12 point one. Also @Somsnosa they really nerved Jenos that hard? Jeez, he was my favorite supp to play when Damba was taken/banned.

I might come back to this game, what's the meta like now? Last time I played competitively was back in December when Bomb King, Inara, Buck, and Makoa were broken.

Anyone else playing Paladins?

I've been kind of bummed out by the other options either F2P or Overwatch 2 being a total flop. I feel like Plants Vs Zombies : Battle for Neighborville would be a great game with a different type of IP based around it...like Conker Live and Reloaded.

I don't play Paladins as much as I used to but I last booted it up a couple weeks ago. If there's one thing that bothers me, it's how often people don't want to play tank, which usually forces me to do it. Inara is one of my mains but her playstyle can get tiresome real quick.

Played for 500+ hours here. Was the first multiplayer game I played in 4-5 years, and had a blast playing the first 200 hours or so. By that time, however, the matchmaking started and insisted to put me with total newbies against veterans all the time. Disconnections, long queue times, and both casual and ranked modes never finding a medium between fun and competitive. I spent 300+ hours trying all sort of card loadouts, champion playstyles and finding friends to coordinate with to no avail. I had fun 1/10 of the matches while the rest were a chore.

It's sad. Paladins has the most potential to being Overwatch on a discount and a lot more, but hi-rez will never alleviate this game from maintenance status till it potentially dies. We got a new map after a year or so and new champions closing in on 60 now..? Why not fix the technical issues and hire more map artists? I read once they only have two environmental artists working on maps right now.

The game is in maintenance mode and is maintained poorly, too. You're better off playing Overwatch 2 at this point, but even that game suffers from greedier monetization tactics for skins, and much worse is demanding higher specs to play it at its intended FPS: 120+. Any lower makes it impossible to play anything DPS reliant on hitscan without losing. My poor ass can't afford to buy a new GPU just for this game, so yeah.

I'm looking forward to checking back on TF2, which I quit after 4 hours or so a few years ago. Perhaps it will cover that Hero-Shooter itch, but I doubt it won't add up more than a comedy game. Pay to play multiplayer games will have to wait till I get a stable income, until then I'm sticking to pirating single player games.

I was a long time paladins player, I played through the beta until cards unbound, came back a few months after cards unbound was rolled back but I don't think I've touched it since radiant stars (Which was apparently two years ago).
Edit: Spoiling this shit because I've noticed it's a huge text wall
My issues with the games are threefold, none of them ever got addressed and ultimately lead me to quitting the game:
  • Bugs: By far the biggest and most consistent problem with the game, the developers only ever tried to address this once seriously to my knowledge and after that attempt I'm of the belief that they stopped giving a shit at some point and just started releasing new characters as that's what makes them money.
  • Cheaters: I'm tired of cheaters in games in general and Paladins are not only fragrant cheaters, they never get punished and the anti cheat is trash. An extension of this issue is that although the anticheat it does detect whenever the game is running on a vm or via proton, so I cannot even play it on my main pc these days.
  • Having to play healer or tank then getting stuck with irate retards that insta-lock offensive characters shouting I'm doing a shit job when they rush onto 1v5 situations: Self explanatory, and I don't think there's any real solution to the problem, a similar issue is having said retards get really irate because I don't wanna play tank or healer because the comp is trash and I refuse to be trash-talked an entire round.
I would like to play again but honestly I don't see interest on the development team to solve the first two issues. If anything they seem to be doing even more retarded shit; making it so you cannot jump past a certain height, being unable to taunt (Apparently because muh competitive players complained about people using them to look around corners) getting rid of the great callout system that it had because it was too complicated for retards, getting rid of items because people were to stupid to pick reduced healing or shield damage, forcing fucking competitive in the season passes (Hate that shit, but it was already there when I was still playing) getting rid of halloween and christmass events, getting rid of test maps for seemingly no reason (...).
I could go on for days but I think I've made my point, Paladins has only gotten worse with time and I don't think there's anything that can be done to fix it, even if the new leadership sets its' mind on fixing the game, the old leadership was set on cutting costs and maximizing quick profits doing irreperable damage to the game and its' reputation (Something I like to call the "Gaia online syndrome").

I guess I made the right to stopped playing when the developer had gotten rid of the daily login reward* last year or so and went completely pay-to-play.
*I know the daily login was clump change and patience was required to get enough of the in game currency to unlock whatever. This plus what @XMassAllYearRound had posted made playing Paladins a waste of time.

I added a few hours into the game a month ago, and boy is it sinking real quick with the next update. There's also a whole lot of the dev team calling it quits recently, with most visibily ThunderBrush (spiteful "Furraffinity . Net" art director) and Trail (Some PR guy, fired for chimping out on the playerbase). I'd make a lengthy post describing it all, but can't be bothered.
Let a (former) community representative, a shitpost, and the /vg/ lurkers tell the big chunks of the story.

TL;DR - Evil Mojo are using the game as a resume filler as much as possible before jumping ship, one member at a time, and expect the playerbase to "empathize" with them and support them till the bitter near end. Payload brought back after telling the players they don't want it, and coming back on a season update since they couldn't come up with anything that could save the dwindling consumer base. Same shit with what happened with Tribes is happening with Paladins.

So if it comes down to a competition about which class-based FPS dies out first, Paladins or Overwatch 2, who will die out first then?

I will be amazed if overwatch2 somehow dies first. As a long time player(closed beta) and fan of paladins. Paladins hurts me the most to see it in the current state. THEY FUCKING ADDED A BRAINDEAD AIMBOT CHAMPION AND THOUGHT IT WAS A GOOD IDEA IN A FPS.

I don't mean something like soldier76 where that's his ult. I mean this bitch's left and right click is fucking aimbot hitscan, even after the nerf to make it so you have to move the mouse nearer to the enemy champion she still is braindead broken. It baffles me if this wasn't done to try to sink the game faster. Overwatch wishes they could fuck up this hard. This shit is after years of slowly ruining parts of the game.

Paladins should have died when ob64 happened as it never truly recovered from that shitstain of a update all these years later and has only gotten worse.

Sorry for the rant everyone, just paladins had so much potential, and seeing it in the current sorry state is like seeing a long time pet you loved and owned suffering from something out of your control. (:_(

Tried paladins again cause of OW2.

I like the new talent and item changes. A lot of them seem to be in a good direction, balance wise.

Maps still feel very flat and linear; one way to the objective, a lot of hard edges/invisible walls when trying to go for shortcuts with flying heroes, etc etc.

Whoa, whoa now... what's this about George Floyd and Hi-Rez? I gotta hear this drama, but I don't think the SEO is gonna give me the story I'm looking for here.

I enjoyed Paladins for longer than I enjoyed Overwatch. I haven't touched either in years now, but I'm pretty disappointed to hear what's going on with the development. Yet another example of a good game being destroyed by the never ending update cycle.

I want to return to the world where people didn't call a game "dead" just because it didn't get a content patch in the last month.
