I mean it is sort of sad that trans shit got him blacklisted but i guarantee you if he had more self awareness or better friends he would have survived it. the NYC scene allows way more controversial takes.
I don't think this would have been an issue if he was funny. There would have been a market for his standup if it was more than just the coldest center-right takes possible disguised as jokes.

He managed to get a full 60 minute special on comedy central, he didnt have that shitty of material pre-redpilling.

But you did bring up a good point. He had a podcast for 3 years about bombing on stage, it would be nice to check out his earliest podcast appearances and see if those stories match up to his current ones about his folks. Also if we can notice the start of his madness.

One thing im surprised doesnt come up a lot is that he is financially stable. Unlike most lolcows he got rich enough from his career that he could survive just from the rent from his properties. (He has like 4 houses he rents out in LA)

Also for a man thats seemingly intelligent you would think he wouldnt trust a woman that abandoned him. Maybe im just a misogynist but i would basically never turn my back on a dad that tries to raise me if the mother didnt.

My favorite part about this arc is seeing Owen go from a relatively normal guy that got fucked over to a full psycho. It was fun seeing it play out with Tim Pool and with the tards on KotakuinAction too.

I think him having his career destroyed when he probably felt like he was on the verge of "making it" probably got to him. It was fun following his tweeter and seeing him go from "outside of this fringe element the left is great" to "jordan Peterson and trump are right" to "jews arent evil its just a religion like everyone else" to "heil hitler" to "the moon doesnt exisr you need to drink bleech"

Also hes been on full grifter/cultist for awhile now. Which again finance wise he doesn't need to be. I have a hard time believing he has money problems and especially when he doesn't seem to go anywhere and eats expired food.
There's various rumors of his actual finances, and how they own a couple properties and just rent at least one out, which is why everyone is so suspicious about him being so demanding for donations and for people to mail him money to his PO Box.

Nobody trusts anything he says about money, but he has said on more than one stream that he is broke/tapped out. It may be brief moments of clarity due to whatever drug he is on at the moment but I recall seeing clips of around 3 or 4 separate instances where he talks about how he's right on the edge of losing everything. IT may be part of the grift, but I think the grift is in service of him being financially fucked.

Plenty of garbage "comics" get specials. Shit, Mencia got his own entire show and Jeff Dunham has tons of specials. I've watched plenty of Big Bears shit and at best he get's the sort of laugh you give to your neighbors autistic kid when he tells you a knock knock joke from a 45 year old book.

Trying not to PL here, but several years ago a friend who’s in the biz told me about meeting Owen at an event. This was when he was first basking in the glory of his cancellation, networking like crazy in any spheres of entertainment that would still associate with him, and trying to dine out on his victimhood. My friend remembered Owen had a CC special, so one rainy night we found it on online and barely made it through the first three minutes. It was horrendous. And we were two people who were rooting for him and wanted to see him do well. I’m often extremely easily amused and I didn’t even crack a smile.

TL;DR His CC special is an unfunny embarrassment.

I'll have to try and find it now that you said that. I saw a bit of his "special" that came out post cancelation and it was god awful, try hard edgey boi shit that I watched maybe a minute or two of and then just skipped around, ever wincing and never laughing.

From what I recall of the few minutes we watched, there was nothing edgy or political in it. I could be incorrectly remembering it, but he seemed like a much less entertaining Brian Regan. I’m not willing to double-check my memory against any footage that might be online, sorry.

Owen was a huge TotalFratMove style comic.
he spends way too much time on premises, but he did get a lot futher than say Daxter Herrera or other lolcows that tried to "make it" and while its not funny to us, its good enough for most normies.

If podcasts were as big now but a decade ago, he would probably be the host of The Chive's flagship podcast "high five til it hurts" or whatever. Also you can tell there is some craziness in there,

But he was good enough to get a reoccurring role on a sitcom, and was apparently one of the better touring stand-ups. There's a reason Steve Byrne would let him open, hollywood must have seen something in him to let him star in that one movie with Ricci. He never advanced beyond C-list but he was still relatively well known in the stand up circles.

Owen wasn't ever funny, because his comedic character is inconsistent. It feels inauthentic. You can't play a misanthrope who is craving approval. It doesn't jell together. He is not good at pretending that he doesn't give a shit what people think about him.

So Owen has put Ursa Manor, his house in Washington, up for sale:

I remember that he said he would keep this place, but apparently he has changed his mind. He still owns his properties in New York and California, so why cut off his Washington home? I've read that some people of the subreddit suggest that it is involved with patreon lawsuit, but I fail to see how. Can't be to pay for the lawsuit if he has enough money to purchase land in Idaho.

It's really funny that he used to live there. Gig Harbor, though a very beautiful place, is known for having a lot of weirdos living there. That Douglas Spink guy lived there, and so does Onision. He should have felt right at home in that crowd.

Don't put Mencia and Dunham in the same conversation. Mencia was a hack who got rich stealing his opener's material. Dunham grinded it out in the club scenes as a puppet act before he got big, and there's been no history of Dunham being a hack comedian. Is his show corny and very family friendly? Yeah, but that's how he got big.

I wish I could find the clip of Patrice O'Neal on O&A talking about Jeff and how a club owner tried to stiff him. The story goes - Jeff spent his entire act having the grumpy old man puppet count the room. When he reached the 250 he needed to get what he was owed he goes, "GIMME MY FUCKIN MONEY."

But yes, plenty of comics get specials for comedy central. Some of them are good, some are pure garbage and it's hard to tell if it's the comic or the format. Did you see Doug Stanhope on Comedy Central? I think he and Bob Kelly both did premium blend, or some other short set show CC used to do. Neither of their sets were that good because they had to dumb it down for CC. How about Louis CK's first comedy central set? Would you consider watching Louis perform if that was your first taste of his work?

I can respect Dunham's hustle but that doesn't mean he's worth a fuck in a comedic sense. Brian Reagan is a notoriously clean, family friendly comic but he's actually talented. I know humour is subjective but I can unequivocally say that Dunham is a hack. Again, I can't knock his hustle though. I was pretty deep in the EDM scene for a long time and there's tons of talentless hacks headlining the biggest events around the globe that literally can't match two beats and they just pretend to play while a prerecorded set goes on but they know how to hustle, that doesn't mean I'm going to say they're good DJs.

As for back when CC actually had comedy specials, yeah...obviously network TV is going to dumb down shit but you can still tell talent from talentless. Now if you'll excuse me, I've got to get back to watching Douglas on Netlfix, it's the best.

idk the significance of all this. Who's Cringe Panda? Is that Owen's real account?

I've seen too many disgusting clips of Benjamin, where he'd be begging for money in one breath, only to insult and look down at his watchers for being dumb poors in the next, to ever take his claims of hardship anywhere close to serious. His idea of financial ruin is owning only a single digit amount of large, income-generating properties, instead of a nation wide franchise of them. He's greedy and conniving to the core

Yeah, he just doesn't have the comedy or acting chops to either fake being enough of a genuine, likeable character, or use his flaws and negative traits to his advantage, and bring the audience in to join him at laughing at himself. Just ends up seeming like an overall unlikable and phony showbiz striver to me in his pre-cult leader persona
