Reaper, Mei (I am the devil), Mercy, Junkrat. I'll play Reinhardt if I'm playing with my friends and our comp needs a tank, but not in pubs; nobody ever takes advantage of the shield in pubs and a support-less Reinhardt is just slightly above useless. But really, I'll play whatever the team needs. Winston is one of my new favorites of the past few hours: he destroys squishies like the 4 Widowmakers and 2 Tracers that make up every pub team.
Roadhog is reasonably good at dealing with high-value targets with his hook and shotgun if you wanna try that. He also doesn't really need a support.

>Defend the payload
>Play Torbjörn aka easy mode
>Turret double kill
>Get into fray and kill 3 more with rivet gun
>Win
>Play of the game still Bastion

Is there any decent means for counterplay against Mei? It feels like her kit offers too much.

Keep your distance, honestly - she's only a threat if you get close.

And if you need to get close, bring a buddy - she's only good against multiple people at once if she's able to get them all in a nice line - which is something you really really really shouldn't do.

Your best option is distance. Snipe, Soldier 76, Pharah, Junkrat basically anyone who can put in damage from mid to long range, out of range of her freeze. Tanks are also good counters because she can't freeze and icicle you in one go. And certain characters can bust free of her freezing (as it's freezing you, not once you're frozen): Winston, Tracer, Reaper.

Junkrat, especially, has some tools to counter most of Mei's kit. If she iceblocks, put a trap under her and hit her with bombs from far away. Or a mine to kill her depending on how much health she has going into the block (or at least to push her away from your team). Lob bombs over the wall.

I'm half-expecting that to come up as a Tracer skin or a generic, every-character spray now. Which would be cool; Blizz has a long history of incorporating community references into the games.

I've put in a lot of hours on the game since release. My friends and I are going to form up a team and make a go at ranked play. I haven't had this much fun in a video game in a really long time.

So today I was D.Va and launched my mech through the door way into one of the buildings some people were sniping at us from and watched it explode. It was pretty good.

One of my escort matches involved being in a team made entirely of Tracers. We made it to the first checkpoint before ultimately losing the match, but it was hilarious watching everybody blink all over the place.

So, here's something interesting.

Basically, going by pick rates in high level competitive play, McCree and Lucio actually go over 100%, i.e. on average across all games, you're bound to see at least one McCree and Lucio. On the complete other end of the spectrum, characters like Mei and Roadhog, which are generally considered pubstompers, are picked less than five percent of the time.

I get too much of a TF vibe from this game and it feels like that game had more game modes in it. I'm glad I rented Overwatch for free.
