Hello fellow kiwis. I'm having some issues playing Stellaris on steamdeck.

At the moment my main issue is playing on a medium sized galaxy. I seem to be unable to do it on the deck. I had loads of issues when I first started trying to play Stellaris on the deck but I resolved a lot of them by simply putting the compatibility mode in Linux Scout. It works like a charm on small galaxys. I've already played a few games to completion. But I'm pining for the star burst galaxy and want to do it on medium.

Most times it won't even load into a medium sized galaxy, it always seems to crash. I finally got it to load on today and it crashed after six days. Are there any kind of optimization tips I'm missing? I have CryoUtil installed and running on recommended settings. Should I tweak it some?

Wondering if any other people on the forums have experienced these issues? I've been able to play every other paradox game with almost no issues except for Stellaris.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

You fucked yourself by choosing to play that piece of shit game. There's no optimization. Paradox has made the game run worse with each major update, in spite of each major update being supposed to actually improve
said performance. Performance stats using identical settings across different updates in observer mode.

I used to play on PC a lot, I have thousands of hours on it.
Then you should understand why a 25 GB near 10 year old game with a whole load of tech debt barely held together by spaghetti sw*de code mightn't work best on handheld chinesium, it's a silly queston really, you ever see that green text story about the guy who broke Mount and Blade to go maximum potato gfx so his piece of shit laptop could run it? You could try something like that I guess but what would be the point, it is a PC game, perhaps you should get into gacha.
I don't really want to buy another gaming PC, its very time consuming.
https://pcpartpicker.com/ You have no excuse bro.
PC building has a lot of mystique around it but it's very much just lego for adults, I know nothing about computers but am on my 2nd self-build and am never going back to overpriced piece of shit pre-mades, anyone can easily put together their own ebic gaymen masheen in this day and age.

I agree, that paradox has made the game worse. Its just running it on the deck has its on set of issues and I'm trying to see if anyone else has experienced the game crashing on medium galaxy generation on the deck and if there is a work around or not. Not here to argue the overall quality of the game.

I understand it's not optimized for the deck. I'm not saying it is. I'm asking if anyone else has found work arounds. Your comments are largely irrelevant, I can play on small galaxies to 2500 with zero issues. As far as building a computer, I don't want to I've already done that before and I don't care to do it again. I did it for a decade in my 20s and I don't really care to get back into it.

Sometimes the legos go horribly wrong, see Null. Going with pre-builts, mini PCs, or office PCs can be a viable option, depending on pricing and what you're looking for.

Stellaris is one of those autism simulator games that seems to benefit a lot from the 9800X3D. Good luck with the Steam Deck.
