Extortion is a crime. This would not be a lawsuit, that's civil. That implies there's some sort of wrongdoing between private individuals that can be hashed out with spirited, but polite conversation in front of a judge.

No, this is a crime. A felony, in fact. Federal too, because it crosses state lines.

I can't imagine a jury would be too happy about the victim being described as an "adult child" on disability either.

Now, it remains to be seen if a federal prosecutor will pick up the case. But yeah, nah, lawsuit is way underplaying the seriousness of the situation.

The perpetrators should probably be consulting a lawyer right now.

Being a secretary is mostly a full time job. In contrast, after the initial purge, @Null spends like... 5 minutes a day on this.

@Marvin well, I learn something new everyday on the farm. IANAL that legal stuff gives me a headache. So it's not called a lawsuit. Do you know what the term for such a prosecution would be?

I wonder if it comes under 18 U.S. Code § 880 - Receiving the proceeds of extortion.
"A person who receives, possesses, conceals, or disposes of any money or other property which was obtained from the commission of any offense under this chapter that is punishable by imprisonment for more than 1 year, knowing the same to have been unlawfully obtained, shall be imprisoned not more than 3 years, fined under this title, or both."

Chris is enough of a train wreck all on his own that he doesn't require any form of trolling, so it makes more sense to play nice with him to get more out of him. Likewise, Chris tends to do crazier shit when people are openly enabling his bad behavior and tends to shut down and straighten up when people are being overly negative/harsh/mean.

He may be a living dumpster fire, but he still has sense enough to register negative attention and positive attention (or at least what he perceives as such).
