People start using the AI decompiled programs instead of FOSS alternatives.
I've already seen this happening with decompilations of older N64 titles being preferred above emulators for, let's be real here, piracy. Simply just because they "work" with every game.
Yeah and the world is going to get destroyed by global warming/global cooling/climate change any day now. "AI decompilation" is a meme. It's superficial, and falls apart outside carefully edited videos.
While "AI decompilation" is a bit of a fuckin' meme, I don't think it's going anywhere. It's simply too easy to ask some clanker for a working decompiled port.
Duh, but giving up our rights and paying more in taxes and making retarded sacrifices is stupid when China and India get away with infinitely worse.
While I think global warming is an actual thing and that we should be careful with our output of greenhouse gasses, why should the common man give up their regular cooking gasses, electricity, and, for fuck's sake, fireplaces, when companies, India and especially fucking China outputs at at least a hundred times my national's population average. I'll eat less meat out of my own volition, not because my government tells me to. Nevermind the government telling us to eat less, shower less, use the heater less all the while they DON'T MAKE FUCKING NUCLEAR REACTORS FOR GREEN ENERGY A MILLION TIMES MORE EFFICIENT THAN WINDMILLS.
Are we even going to need "software" at all? In 10 years, with all these agents, are we seriously still going to click around in Premiere Pro to edit a video? Or tailing error logs manually, in a terminal to debug an error? Or will all this manual work be done by agents by guiding them through what you want? Are we even going to need to edit video when entire movies can be generated?
Why need a mouse when we have voice assistance? Why need a keyboard when we have voice automation? Why do we need a monitor when AIs just tell us what's on screen? - What the fuck are you talking about, nigger?
A lot of FOSSworks are hobby projects that have SOVL, and as 'productive' as the cumbot may or may not be, it can't forge SOVL. I like things that move slow and are made by MAN.
It's much more common that the locusts hopping from project to project demanding a CoC against transphobia are the same ones demanding a "NO LLM CONTRIBUTIONS" policy. SOVL is a non-issue unless you're unemployed and desperately need something to fill the empty hours of your life. I want software that works, and a tranny who makes 4 commits a year because he has to write every line of code by hand but also cannot as he has the sads 350 days of the year does not produce software that works.
There's a massive difference between "I spent so much of my hard time finding solutions with no usable output, so I used AI and it gave me something usable" and "Look goyim, I made a program with AI". There's a difference between
Paint dot NET on WINE and
I put vibe-coded in my Github tags. One is a solution to a long standing and annoying problem, the other is a "solution" to no one's problem. Where one also understands what the clanker has written and the other where they couldn't for the life of them figure out why text is in Indian instead of English.
but Free Software lives and breathes because of user contributions.
A clanker doesn't know what a human would realistically want, humans do. (insert "For your specific usecase?" here). I'd much rather have multiple people use some shitty AI together than one person doing everything under one AI agent.
what a human would have made.
Read: "indian".
Every program, from time to time, requires change. If you write your code in a write-only manner then change becomes difficult/expensive. So yes, aesthetics is in fact an essential quality of code and always has been. Just because you commit a program and release it does not mean you'll never touch it again.
I've learnt to make code so easily understandable so that, not only can other humans understand it in the future but me myself as well. I've had projects basically drop dead because I wrote it in such a benignly fucking retarded way that it had functions inside of functions inside of for loops inside of functions with no comments.
Akin to non-programmers: Imagine you have sorted a collection based on: Decade of release => Year of release in random order => Title of the band in reverse order => Album release in chronological order.
Standards, usecases and necessities change, and the last thing you'd want to do is make a whole new project for a slight inconvenience.
Was calculating fast inverse square roots using magic numbers 'aesthetic code'? Carmack still gets praised for it
The code is easily explainable by people with knowhow. Would it be easier to write?:
JavaScript:
function invSqrt(x){
return 1/sqrt(x);
};
Yes. Does it make the code better in totality? No. If all you'd care about is performance, then Carmack's solution is the best one. Magic numbers are only when it can be used in a different way of explaining what it does. His magic number is, quite literally, a magic number.
