Where in the world are you? Macs have absolutely horrendous build quality and repairs of them are a joke ("mail it in and we'll wipe your machine"), while even chineseum stinkpads will have a repair man drive into the middle of nowhere to fix your laptop when you tip your coffee cup over it and some key gets sticky (but laptop still works while you wait because they have drain holes, and yes this is based on personal experience).

Apple toys aren't serious work machines.
Never once had a Mac last less than ten years, nor ever had to have one repaired, even under heavy daily use causing visible wear.
Another tech pedophile has hit the towers
Luke is the guy who invented something called Tonal Bitcoin, something nobody ever used. It was based on a sort of proto-hexadecimal invented in the 19th Century by a similarly weird individual, also never used by anyone. He is phenomenally autistic.

Continuing with the topic of Andrew Kelley (head retard of Zig) is a lolcow, today he published his thoughts about the Bun rewrite (L/A). He claims he's not mad but the article is full of seethe.
I believe he's mad that he lost the support of one of his biggest paypigs, who moved to a different trannylang and stopped giving him tens of thousands of dollars just to tell them that AI is le bad.
Suffah Andrew!
He rewrote the last paragraph. Now he openly admins to resenting Jarred and acknowledges that it's driving users away from zig.

The main issue here had nothing to do with the language features of Zig vs Rust, and everything to do with the diverging value systems of the two projects and the relationship breakdown that followed.

Zooming out a bit, I want to make one thing clear.

While I resent Jarred for making Bun into an embarassment for Zig, and I blame him partially for some of the slop we've been dealing with, and I stand by my criticism of his leadership, I also empathize with him. He has different values than me, he wants different things out of life than me. But I think he's actually happy and successful exactly where he is. He figured out how to accomplish all the stuff that he wants. He gets to live out his productivity fantasy fever dream, he's probably already super wealthy. He has minor tech celebrity status.

Honestly, I think he did well for himself, and despite my feelings of resentment, and despite the fact that I find myself battling the marketing arm of Anthropic, I don't wish him any ill will. Even in the midst of my frustration, I am happy for him and his success, by his own standards.

This blog post has been characterized as a personal attack against Jarred, while I originally framed it as telling the story of a failed business relationship. My framing didn't work because I had unprocessed emotions of resentment, that were obvious to the reader, but not to myself. I've updated this conclusion section after self-reflection and chatting with friends. Feel free to go look at the original text in this website's public source repository.

The other critical mistake I made with this post was failing to consider the rather obvious and important point that this might affect Zig users who knew next to none of these facts and have only the surface level understanding that an ex-Zig-user is getting trashed by the language creator. Such people might reasonably worry that might happen to them. I'm sorry to those who I made feel this way. At this point, all I can say is that myself and other ZSF folks have outstanding relationships with essentially everyone who openly uses Zig and talks about it publicly, and this incident is the one exception. Plenty of people have decided to move away from Zig with zero fuss. I hope you can give me some grace considering a trillion dollar company fired the first shot.

Clearly, the move from here is to focus my blog on positive things like demoing what I've been working on lately, in order to better give an accurate impression of reality about what's going on in the Zig community: a bunch of chill people are collaborating on cool stuff, and having a great time doing it.

I'm aware Mozilla is full of faggots but I have never encountered it in my normal routines until just simply referencing their MDN's box-shadow docs (archive).

Above that is a slightly less egregiously gay quote by fucking Maya Angelou.

Thanks you freaks. I hope you're rising to a step ladder and a sturdy ceiling beam with rope in hand.

I’ve never used bun myself because I’m not a faggot, but I just don’t see why it had to be rewritten in rust? Was it merely a way to keep the trannies interested or what was the drive behind it?
It's a PR stunt for Anthropic, who acquired the company behind Bun. "Look! Our world ender AI (IPO soon) can rewrite your whole software in a week! Imagine the salary savings!" Bun being extremely niche is a good thing here, since even if the stunt goes wrong, the consequences won't be as obvious.

For what it's worth, strong type systems are an advantage for AI stuff since the type errors provide much more useful feedback than failing tests. Rust's is much stronger than Zig's.

Incidentally, I think this is why C is so difficult for AI to write.
>no runtime to speak of in the more modern sense
>everything is numbers and layouts
>every large C codebase is essentially built on the back of consistency more than language enforcement

Ideological Subversion. "Just port it to Rust" allows trannies a foot into any software project, which leads to the eventual usurping of power by freaks if nobody steps up and fights them. Because to step up and fight tranny Marxist freaks would be daring to be perceived as a bigot. Which is dangerous for your software development career path.

It's the same smell as the push a decade ago for every project to adopt a Code of Conduct. Instead of "Why don't you have a Code of Conduct? Are you a bigot?" it's "Why haven't you ported your code to Rust? Do you hate performance and memory safety?". Once you give into those questions without a fight, you've lost.

Anthropic's models, whether it's "PR" or not, are quite good at translating one language to another language. Rust is not unique in this regard. Sonnet/Opus/Fable will just as happily recreate a Rust project into a same-performance C/C++ project given the same steps. If you read Jarred Sumner's article on how he rewrote Bun in Rust, here's the key takeaway, the loud part stated quitely, that I see:

Fortunately, Bun's own test suite is written in TypeScript which means it doesn't depend on the runtime's programming language.

If your project has a test suite that can perform tests 1:1 in two different versions of a codebase, you can provide that to an agent coder and create an exact replica of the software in any language you desire. This was recently done with Postgresql too; "I told Claude Code to convert the project to Rust and make sure all tests pass 100% and it's done".

Completely missed this part:

That just reeks of pettiness and jealousy of Jared’s success. Yikes

Not really possible when you put everything under a non profit, just fuck with the two other people and get them to force him out and he's gone. There's no way this doesn't happen eventually, he will upset the trannies and he will be removed just like nix and a bunch of other projects I don't care to remember.

This part (src) made me lol
For Bun, correctly handling the lifetimes of garbage-collected values and manually-managed values has been a major source of stability issues - most often small memory leaks and occasionally, crashes. Every memory allocation has to be meticulously reviewed. Where do these bytes get freed? How do we ensure it only gets freed once? Did we check for JavaScript exceptions properly? Is this garbage-collected pointer visible to the conservative stack scanner? Is this garbage collected memory or manually managed memory?
I have to genuinely ask whether or not the lifetime issues detailed here are really zig or architectural in nature.
Like nigga, this is just what having individual object lifetimes is like, GC languages hide this detail entirely and as a result people don't learn proper habits. You need to have a strategy in place for this, you need to think about the bounding of lifetimes as well as patterns in how the objects are using memory.
Also, Rust isn't required for this, you can program with a lifetime centric model in any language, I do so in C, all Rust does is force you to use their specific model and elevate contract violations to build errors. He's complaining about what amounts to a developer error and blaming the lang.
